Thanks for the video. 👍 So sorry for your quince trees though! 😒 Is there any other disease whose symptoms resemble this bacterial one (i.e. fungal disease)? Friends of mine had an affected quince tree with withering leaves/twigs every year. Eventually it was cut down. Quince is rare here in Sweden, hence common knowledge in its patogenes is low. The bacterial disease that you described may not be present here(?).

Yes, Monilia linhartiana - named after a Hungarian plant pathologist György Linhart - has similar symptoms, it enters through the flowers and they abort and then travels through the vascular system, much like M.- laxa in stone fruits. M. linhartiana is very rare in Hungary.

Could have been Monilia. 🙂 The affected quince tree is gone now however. According to literature on Erwinia amylovora the disease is less common in colder climates. If it's spotted in Sweden it must be reported to agr. authorities.

@@SamuelC-qq5vb Yes, I assumed that. As far as I know the Nordic countries are in a protected zone. However bacteria has this ability to detect each other and count their numbers in a species - called quorum sensing - and they do not show symptoms before reaching a specific population size in the plant. This means that your fiends may have received a latently infected quince which started to show symptoms when the environment was suitable for symptom development.
