This is why I absolutely love antique stores. If you do enough research the value of pretty much everything in those places will skyrocket. Its always the story that sells.

I own a midi controller with usb and midi connections, and I want to know if any synth that has midi IN or OUT can be controlled by my controller or not. Like I see synths with no keybed but people use them on their own sequencing, but can you hook it on a controller and just use it as a mono or poly synth ? Just use the sound with the keys ?

long story short: bow bassing doesn't work properly here: a) if the strings are laid flat guitar-style, you can't bow the two centre strings without hitting the outer two strings. b) if you raise the two centre strings so you can bow them without touching the outer strings, the fretting goes all wonky: the higher you fret the middle strings - the more they go out of tune

Cornucopian goodness! This instrument may not stay out of my reach too long. Beautiful création! Emboldens so much of what I was loving since I bought my first album from Tangerine Dream in the 70's.

I mean caps can store energy, but you should have mentioned different types of capacitors are used for different things. Some for filtering, some for blocking, some for parts of timing circuits, etc, At 7:40 it looks more like the signal is just clipping, whether just through simple cheap design or how you're capturing the signal. Also, after spending the time with the wire experiment instead of just looking at the back of the board and drawing out a schematic to see what parts do what and what is connected to what, you should have done that anyway to then learn how the circuit is functioning. It looks fairly simple and like something you could recreate in all kinds of different ways with an NE555 or similar like cd4538, cd4098, etc. Learning some electronics, even simple stuff with components that have been used for so many applications such as those and others can lead to learning how to create some rather interesting and much more advanced stuff yourself. Pretty cool little project kit you came across, though, and I always love a synth in any form. I've got a wealth of parts both well over twice my age(30s) to modern and was given some old logic gate experiment kits I was thinking of doing something cool with. Considering I was already building Tesla coils and railguns at around 9, 'interesting' by now, especially mixed with my sciences and cybersecurity and computing background makes 'interesting' often very interesting. Fun to limit ones self to what's in the box and see what you can create, just like limiting yourself musically can lead to some of your best work (also musician among everything else....learning addiction hah)

I was wondering what "acoustic synthesizer" could possibly mean... so, it's a kalimba with a sequencer?

You've made me realise how versatile acoustic instruments are. People can find new ways of engaging with them for decades, while a lot of electronic instruments seem to be designed much more rigidly. I love the idea of this new Korg instrument, because its analogue elements make it a lot more versatile, without the designers needing to add any more features.

Your work is great dude! Think about what the people who made that toy would've thought if they knew it was sampled and used in contemporary music - decades and maybe centuries later.

Not that I have any experience with violins or violas. But when you did the secret test, I preferred the sound of the first one you blurred. So for me, the cheaper one sounded better. I am blown away either one could sound as good as they did for those prices! It shows that the talent playing makes up a big portion of the sound being coherent and what we would consider appealing.

I remember Bontempi ads on German TV when I was a child (late 70's through to the early 80's), and their slogan was, 🎵"Spielspaß von 8 bis 80"🎵 - "Playing fun from 8 to 80" 😄
