My father worked as an engineer in a lot of places but especially in the Middle East and the way to solve the housing crisis is to do exactly what he was working on in the 80’s ,so state contracts . Basically the state (the client) issued an invitation to tender to let’s say build 5000 houses on a precise location and following some specifications and then waited for the offers . The client was providing the land and the company hired was just there to build what was agreed to be delivered so no involments in sales / financing / getting the land etc ….just building . Simple , efficient and most importantly very nice and affordable housing as the units were sold with zero profit . Price was set to cover the cost of building and the land which was cheap because rezoned a residential by the state for the projects . I asked my father what would be the actual cost of building something of that quality today and and said that from the moment the land is provided you can build really good stuff using top materials for around 1500$ per square meter (around 150$ per sq.ft) for houses and much less for apartments . That is simply the unique solution for affordable housing (not social housing which is different ) so housing to target the young professionals who starts in life , people who can afford a 150 to 300K$ mortgage for a 1500/2500 sq .ft properly build property .

The global environment that allowed China to grow rapidly was free trade and globalization. Now that China has become a threat to global industries (such as automobiles), free trade and globalization are being restricted in a wave of protectionism. I see China suffering through depression-like conditions for a decade or two as it transitions to a service economy and a co-operating global partner -- moves which will first require the Communist central government to collapse and be replaced by a secular democracy or equivalent.

This speaker left out China's quick rise is due to China stealing foreign company's trade secrets or setting conditions such as giving up their technology to enter the Chinese market. Northern Telecom is a great example. Huawei stole Northen Telecom's telephone network switching technology then sold that technology at a lower price. The strategy put Northern Telecom out of business. Very biased and dangerous reporting here.

The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.

In the United States, housing affordability has significantly changed from the 1980s to today, with current conditions making homeownership generally less affordable than it was four decades ago. In the 1980s, mortgage rates were extraordinarily high, often exceeding 15%, which made borrowing expensive. However, home prices were much lower relative to incomes. The median home price in 1980 was around $47,200, and the median household income was about $17,710, resulting in a price-to-income ratio of approximately 2.7 (DQYDJ - Don't Quit Your Day Job...) (Pew Research Center). Today, mortgage rates are much lower, typically around 3-4% in recent years, making monthly payments more manageable despite higher home prices. However, the median home price has soared to over $350,000, while median household income has increased to approximately $68,703, pushing the price-to-income ratio to about 5.1 (Pew Research Center) (Money). This indicates that while monthly payments may be lower due to reduced interest rates, the overall cost of purchasing a home relative to income has increased substantially. Income Growth vs. Home Prices: Another key factor is that home prices have outpaced income growth. Since 1960, median home prices have increased by about 229%, whereas median household income has only grown by about 140% (The M Report). This disparity means that today's homebuyers need a larger portion of their income to afford a home compared to those in the 1980s.

I have noticed that housing as an investment skews the marketplace. In particular, Wall Street’s massive purchase of single-family homes. I honestly think that Wall Street should be barred from doing this. People don’t realize that Wall Street is “forever money” and they have the ability to own a house in perpetuity.

If you find that you are incapable of stopping the hand jive delivery style, than perhaps you could switch to the "talking hand" style of video where you are seen from the shoulders up. Increased density does not equal affordable housing. If that was the case NYC would be very affordable but the opposite is true. The phenomenon called induced demand where an increase in the supply of a good or service leads to an increase in its consumption. That is especially true now when mega corporations like Blackrock are buying homes left and right. Cost to build a house is more or less the same across the country. The variables are cost of the land and cost of regulations. If you want affordable housing you need the Sprawl. Build more roads, more mass transit. Aim to get gas and cars cheaper. Prohibit mega corporations like Blackrock from scooping all the homes. Invest in neglected neighborhoods. Also, property taxes should be looked at so investment in the area does not push people that already live there out. In addition average means that there less expensive homes/apartments available.

A big reason China wont pull out of the dive is political. China's economy is not about prosperity, it is about maintaining CCP control. Facts about Joke Briben: -Took showers with daughter Ashley right until she was at least 10 which she stated was "probably not appropriate" and credited for her sex and drug addictions; she also said he "hyper-sexualized" her while she was a toddler (she didn't elaborate, thank God). She wrote this in her diary which she later abandoned in a halfway house after leaving rehab. The FBI later raided homes of reporters who acquired the diary and tried to cover the story claiming it had been stolen (stealing a diary is a federal crime), she also called them admitting it was hers and threatening them with involving the Secret Service -Hinyer Briben himself nicknamed his dad "Pedo Pete" -Claimed his first wife and daughter who died in a car accident were killed by a drunk driver; in reality, his wife inexplicably swerved on the opposite lane and struck an oncoming truck head: the truck driver was sober and was not responsible in any way for the accident, it was his wife the one who caused the accident -Claimed to have worked as a coal miner which never happened -Claimed to have worked as an 18-wheeler truck driver which never happened -Claimed he held 3 college degrees, that attended college on a full scholarship and was admitted to West Point; none of that is true (he did enroll in ROTC but got an F) -White House intern Vail Kohnert-Yount (worked for him while he was Vice President) accused him of attempted rape, stating he touched her and kissed her without her permission while complimenting her on her beauty -Current wife "Doctor" Jill was originally his daughter's babysitter and they were having an affair while both were still married to their first spouses; in fact, they were in bed together when he was informed his first wife and daughter died -Claimed to have travelled 17,000 miles with Xi Jinping (the Earth's diameter is around 7900 miles): his staff was reportedly puzzled about where he came up with this number from or why -Since at least the 2020 presidential Democratic primaries, he has been forced fed dementia meds before each public appearance by his wife to render him coherent; an eyewitness (former aide) said that before taking the pills he was "like a small child" and "unable to speak" -Claimed that he once traveled to Iraq to personally pin a medal on a war hero and that he was warned it could be dangerous but that he bravely brushed off the concerns by saying "we can lose a Vice President, we can't lose any more of these kids" and that as he entered Iraq he was shot at 3 times: he had never been to Iraq and had to retract his story and apologize -When he did go to Iraq he said "he was shot at" which turned out to have been a single mortar exploding miles away from his hotel; his advisers begged him to stop telling the story because it could easily be debunked but flat-out refused until caught -Claimed he went to Afghanistan where al-Qaeda and the Taliban teamed up to shoot down his helicopter forcing it to land with "three-star general and 3 United States senators" onboard, it turned out the helicopter wasn't attacked and landed due to a coming snowstorm 10 hours away; the other claims were also false -Plagiarized speeches by Robert Kennedy, Jack Layton and Neil Kinnock (after he was caught stealing Kinnock's speech he withdrew from the 1988 presidential primaries in disgrace and was notable because the speech narrated Kinnock's childhood and family, meaning he stole another man's entire life story word-by-word; furthermore, during 'his' speech he explicitly claimed he created the speech on the spot) -He plagiarized his thesis -He claimed he finished in the top tier of his class at law school when in fact he finished in place 79th out of 85 (he earned only Cs and Ds during the first 3 semesters) -In college he flunked at least 1 course because of persistent plagiarizing in assignments and papers -The PhD thesis of his wife, "Dr." Jill Briben, has at least 3 grammatical errors and at least 3 errors in basic math in its first page alone and was written with triple paragraph spacing in order to write as little as possible using as much space as possible: Joke Briben forced her community college to award her the degree -Claimed that he visited and met Nelson Mandela in South Africa while imprisoned by the Apartheid government and that he was himself arrested by the South African police when he insisted in meeting him and publicly supported him despite police threats; his staff warned him all of this was false and asked him not to repeat it and he replied he already knew and kept repeating that, later adding that Mandela thanked him for "trying to visit him in prison at the cost of his own freedom" -Stole a "climate change plan" from several NGOs and presented it as his own -Claimed that when he was 21 he convinced Senator Strom Thurmond to support the 1964 Civil Rights Act before he died (Thurmond never supported the act and they only met 8 years later) -Claimed to have been an important figure in the 1960 American civil rights movement; among other things, he claimed to have participated in sit-ins, to have marched along Black activists and to have been arrested for his activitism; none of this was true and during his Congress career he was noted for openly sympathizing and negotiating with racist lawmakers to the point that he supported segregation and Jim Crow, publicly worrying desegregation could end and his grandchildren would grow in "a racial jungle" -The day after becoming Vice President his deadbeat brother Jim showed up to work wearing cufflinks with the Presidential seal and arrogantly insulting his coworkers while openly boasting about being the Vice President's brother -Was also accused of rape and sexual harassment by his Congressional aide Tara Reade; when she went public with the accusation she sought assistance from Time's Up (NGO formed in response to the #MeToo movement to provide free legal aid to female victims of sexual abuse) which refused to help her arguing that Briben was a presidential candidate at the time and they'd be effectively interfering with elections but none of this stopped them regarding Trump when he ran for President in 2016. It was proven that Reade had already went public with her claim in the past when her mom talked about the incident on an episode of the Larry King show; less than 24 hrs after this became public this episode disappeared from the Google online video store and no reason was ever given while Facebook started to ban its users from sharing links to a website that documented Biden's sexual misconduct accusations (JoeBiden dot info); Reade's former neighbor, mother and then husband would confirm her accusations and this incident was mentioned in Reade's divorce proceedings meaning they're in publicly-available court records; even more, Reade filed a formal complaint in Congress and asked Briben to release his Congressional papers (held in a university in Delaware) he of course refused; 'news' outlets such as The New York Times, MSNBC, CNN and Washington Post never covered Reade's accusations even though they had been so concerned about victims of sexual abuse and were quick to condemn Justice Kavanaugh solely on the testimony of the greedy fame-seeking Christine Blasey Ford who couldn't present a shred of evidence besides her dubious testimony after which the witnesses she brought to testify in her behalf refused to back her claims, after which a retired FBI agent who happened to be a friend of Ford threatened one of Ford's friends so that she would publicly back her claims up which she refused to do, but even so, Ford would receive the undeserved attention she sought, awards and medals from Leftie Liberal NGOs and sign a very lucrative book deal plus making a lot of money giving lectures while Justice Kavanaugh was slandered, smeared and humiliated; Reade didn't receive these same privileges -Claimed that contamination in rainwater gave him cancer; he just had 1 small solar-induced melanoma removed as a kid -Forced his deadbeat crackhead son Hunter to give him 50% of his salaries on all the sinecure "jobs" he held and every bribe he received for being Briben's son -Claimed Trump caused thousands of children in Mexico to starve to death - In 2010 when he met Senator Scott Brown and his wife in public he started grabbing her ass and kissing her neck; he only stopped after the Senator physically separated them and threatened him telling him "I'll kick the shit out of you" -Claimed his father was a "gentleman, decent man" who never got to go college and "worked at coal until the whole industry died". In reality, his dad went to Johns Hopkins for over a year but dropped out because his nepotistic father got him a high paying job as a salesman for a coal company but he lost everything because of alcoholism; he's also documented as having cheated on Joke Briben's mom at least once when he and his also-married cousin went on a yacht for several days with 2 single women -Claimed his house once almost burned down, claiming a firefighter almost died while he had to brave the flames to rescue his wife and dog; it turned out it was a small kitchen fire put down by 2 firefighters in less than 20 minutes; nobody was hurt or in any risk -Claimed he was in Ground Zero the day after 9/11; he was in Congress -Claimed his uncle (who fought as a combat pilot in World War 2) was shot down by the Japanese during a dogfight and that he was then captured by cannibals and eaten in New Guinea; in reality, his uncle's plane had engine trouble during a routine flight and had to ditch at sea in the middle of the ocean where he died and his body remains there with his wreck Copy and spread this, share screenshot, update whenever possible (no credit is necessary just spread it and share it please)

Any "macro" assessment that does not include humans' catastrophic impact on our habitat is missing the elephant in the assessment. Fragmentation is crucial if we are to return to sustainable, "local" practices that prioritize quality of life over such abstractions as GDP. The fragmentation trend may not be intentionally promoting a return to more sustainable lifestyles but it is our only hope if we are to save our species from extinction or, worse, the suffering and death of the majority so that a few wealthy elites can survive. Only in an economy small enough to exist in accordance with the specific geography/ecology of a region (its weather, plant life, etc.), rather than manmade fianciual imperatives, which are artificial and irrelevant to most living things, can true resilience occur. Comparing today's challenges to those of even 50 years ago is entirely missing the biggest challenges of all-those that threaten all of us.

The UK is severely short on property right now. Renting its very hard to get a place even with money, even with buying its very hard. In my region every place get sold within weeks of going on the market. We really need to release more land for building as well as reduce land banking or speculation. Green belt is all very nice, but you cannot keep increasing the density of cities year on year.

I think media instilled a sense of entitlement that nimbys have today because i distinctly remember a LOT of shows where the plot revolved around some dense housing being built and the protagonists when through the runtime of the show fighting to stop development and they win with celebrations in the end. So people may have been conditioned to think that low dense suburban areas are the peak of development and that they should be sanctified and protected. We've been pumped with a lot of self serving consumerist ideals over the last few decades.

Ultimately this problem doesn't go away regardless of the theories presented. The biggest problem, is that existing homeowners, speculators, and investors do not want the value of their homes to decrease, regardless of the nonsense in this video, the home would still act as a home whether its being rented or owned, thusly serving its purpose as a consumable good either way. The only way in the US this gets solved is by revitalizing what was abandoned, and coercing companies to create jobs there. This happens with government incentives that can only come from taxing the rich. Which only happens when lobbying is made illegal. This high level data even academically is completely useless as its intermingled across multiple complex nations with varying cultures, and avenues of change. I am blown away at how pointless this video is, and feel dumber for having wasted my time with it.
