So what happens to the rest of the first one's meat if you only take the back legs and back straps?

Mate you just made me feel a whole lot better about not shooting anything while I was on Flightless in 2019. Had a six point stag walk past me within the first hour of the first hunt but I couldn't get a shot. Then hunted another two days and never saw another one despite seeing plenty of sign. I figured I just must be a shit hunter 🙂. Sean and Maria are such good hosts, and Courtney is a goddess in the kitchen. Looking forward to going back next year hopefully.

Awesome trip with some wicked animal encounters! Last time I was there we had the same thing with not getting much noise but such a cool place to hunt. Real disappointing about the hut, I’ve never been past there without it having people. Shit I go bush to get away from people, not share it with 19 other dudes!

Really cool video. A question though, do you normally only take select cuts from the deer? In the UK we would gralloch (remove the innards, head and hooves) and then take the whole carcass back for processing. Is it due to where you are the difficulties involved?

That hut is our old family hut. Built by Bob around 81. He used to leave his min14 tucked away in there. Save the carry over the ringa. Unfortunately when he died his wife was interested in the hut log. I sent it to her and then wasn't able to get it back. A real loss to the history. I shit my first stag pretty close by in about 89. Haven't been back for years. Is it staying dry?
