Being 39y old I just started Judo a few months ago after training it a little while as a kid. And I remember how I was thinking about Kesa Gatame back then that it's good for nothing. Two days ago a black belt showed me three arm bars from that position and now I am seing this video. And all I can think now is WTF!!!!

Yeah I'm sure it works every time if you are far stronger than your opponent and the odds of him getting you there in the first place is a dream in and of itself.

thanks but what about the taps when his arm is between your legs. I forgot one of those subs, which my teacher taught me. There is a straight arm bar from there. There is the step over triangle. I am not sure what else. There are also a couple of variations from that position you showed, when the guy defends the head and arm choke. I am using kesa a lot, it is working against people who are really pretty good. They don't see it coming as a position and they are unfamiliar with the subs also. I'm not even using pressure from kesa, because I'm so big I feel guilty doing that... but I'm pretty sure I can tap a lot of the people I'm rolling with just from pressure from that position. I will use it to tire them out a little and settle them down, however.

Learned this first from Neil melanson, I use this variant and another variant where you hook his bottom leg and push the legs to face the other side of his body, twisting his spine in the process (be gentle, don't wanna snap someone in half) People openly tell me it's one of the most claustrophobic and horrific submission they've ever felt lol Go team cradle!

It's crazy that I learn way more off youtube videos, compared to going to class. I feel like they created the classes that way, to keep people from obtaining belts very quickly.
