An album that most of the people and critics love to hate. It's also not my favourite but Achilles is one of their absolutely top progressive metal tracks. Robert Plant was recovering from a serious car accident at that time and Jimmy Page was working for a long time on the production to get it more or less okay. Their version of the blues gospel song Nobody's Fault but mine (on side 2) is also a highlight. They even did it better on their No Quarter album.

Love your reactions Verdy, especially to my fav band, Zeppelin! I think they recorded this in like just 3 weeks, or 17 days or something, amazing. Jimmy stayed up at least one night putting the finishing overdubbed guitars on. "Achilles Last Stand" is, I think, Jimmy's favorite Zeppelin song. Easy to see (hear) why! The whole album is an electric hard rock BANGER! "Tea for one" closes it out on side 2, but is a sloooow, lovely, deeply emotional Blues tune. Fantastic stuff!

This is THE underrated Led Zeppelin album! Starts off with a banger, Achilles Last Stand, a precursor to Iron Maiden and other heavy metal acts that followed. Love that you’re finally getting to this gem. Takes a few listens to get into the album as a whole, but it’s well worth it.

Just as awesome today as it was when we first heard it in 1969. After the Yardbirds split up Jimmy Page put together this little band to fulfill some tour dates. They developed enough new material to go into the studio where they came up with this. Using his experience as a session musician, Jimmy Page used his skills to produce and record the sounds they were creating. In concert Page usually played a Gibson Les Paul guitar but here and on most of his studio recordings he played Fender Telecasters. He used a small 15 watt Supro Amplifier that he cranked up into distortion mode. No digital. Analog was all there was.

Does your subconscious mind, is it capable of altering one's preferences? Like, to a piece of music you might hear? Not your conscious mind, your subconscious mind. Let's say your conscious mind is distracted and you become aware a piece of music you hear playing moves you, it feels right or it sortof forces you to listen, in a way. I subscribe to this idea.
