    If it took from 40k, it took all the worst parts and ignored the best. Now, if it was ACCURATE to 40k, it'd actually be a better movie. Enemy force deploys a single Guard detachment thats recovering from a larger battle. More men at arms on the planet than there are locals...by at least THREE times. And this is before their armor and artillery comes in.

    You forgot to mention Dreadnoughts!!! that was the class of ship in rebel moon. Admiral Noble's flagship was called a dreadnought. While in Warhammer 40k, as you are aware, they are a sarcophagus for space marines after sustaining critical and near death wounds. Once interred they can continue serving the chapter and imperium in battle. As the old saying, "Even in death, I still serve".

    Excellent video, very enjoyable and a very useful overview of the absolute jungle of rules that is Rogue Trader. Would you happen to know if there were ever rules for Eldar Scouts in Rogue Trader? I know that the first minis were released in 1988, but I haven't managed to find any rules for them before a 1993 WD article, which of course are rules for 2nd edition.

  • @toyznthehood
    @toyznthehood3 ай бұрын

    Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't think there were any special rules for Eldar Scouts until 2nd Edition - the big book of Eldar rules was really the Compilation and they're not an option there - although I believe Exodites are mentioned and they felt like they crossed over with Scouts. The Scouts are some of my favourite miniatures, they're iconic

    I remember that event. May have been the one I picked up the best Space Marines player at. I'd warned the organisers that their spreadsheet had some of the equations in it incorrect on the Saturday, as it was clearly giving erroneous results. The end of play scores posted on the Saturday evening were simply incorrect in some of the totals etc! Whoever was on the phone gave you some duff info. (Zak or Nick?) The rules pack actually said if your faction had 3 or fewer players then the average they compared you to should be the tournament average of all players, but instead they had compared you to the single other player on the old codex. IIRC you scored something like mid to high teens (I want to say 19, but it's been a while), whilst he scored about 5, and it gave you about a 14 point difference, which was almost mathematically impossible for the other factions to compete with! The average you were compared to was also supposed to not include yourself (ie the average of the *other* players using the same codex), which the spreadsheet was doing correctly for factions of 3 or under, but not the bigger ones. The daft thing was several of us actually told the organisers they'd got it wrong before you'd left the hall, so no phone call should have been necessary. As a side note, they later had to remove the bonus points for favourite opponent due to people abusing the system. At the event following the one you won, the winner of most sporting got 5 out of 5. However, one of his opponents had not voted for him- and had actually raised a complaint about his unsporting behaviour. A few events later someone got 6 votes out of 5 when not only did the guy's five friends he came with vote for him- so did one of his opponents, to prove the system was being abused! It was only after this that WHW finally did something to address the problem.

    I think your memory is better than mine! I tried to find a rules pack to check but Games Workshop must have had them all pulled ;) I also didn't expect this video to be quite as popular as it is! They were quite pleased that someone had won with a bit of an odd army - i remember one of the ref's telling me how i bet i was surprised to win it. which is very true as I knew i was the best Dark Eldar, that maths was easy. I have spoken with the GW chap since, he's now one of my best mates - it was an error in the spreadsheet as you say although it's now been so long neither of us remembered much of the details. They also didn't get any input into the system, it was created by Jervis Johnson in the studio and they were told they had to run it as is. I can imagine the Studio coming up with the rules but not the excel spreadsheet! I think the one thing it did do really well was change the way people viewed GWs events. They were a lot more fun afterwards with a lot less competitiveness. and it was cool that other places picked up on the GTs

    So, you had an unfair advantage in having early access to the codex from the start and exploited it. Not an in-game exploit, but a meta exploit. This take-back *would* have been the correct response... Right up to the part where the codex was released before the event. Since there was no "x weeks until it's legal for events" restriction on codex rules, you did nothing wrong. Shitty of you, maybe, but not wrong. Some other person who is an avid collector, fast reader, and had the crunch time to spare could have done the same. However, as this story is told, the T.O. should have eaten this failure to catch the fact that you were able to acquire a product early, and therefore gain advantage. Still, they did not have a proper leg to stand upon since the product was on the shelves. As this story is told, you won, accordingly. You should kinda feel bad about the exploit, but not as bad as the T.O. should feel about their lack of integrity.

  • @toyznthehood

    To be fair on them it was more an admin error that let me win it seems - I did give myself an edge for sure. I believe afterwards they changed the rules from the Codex just needing to be released to it must have been released for two weeks or maybe even a month. That helped a lot

When I claimed it while applying to colleges, I was told I wasn't the valedictorian but I had a funny little piece of paper. It was printed by the school counselor showing that I had placed first for GPA in my graduating class.

    Nice story I think however there is a big issue with early preview copies of codex’s being given to Tournament teams, it’s an unfair advantage over everyone else. At my local GTs a few years back we had a big problem (still do to a lesser extent) of WH40k teams showing up with the current *meta* lists with new rule books that have barely been out, yet they’ve had the unique experience of testing out army lists using the new rules for over a month. Seems really disingenuous. Thankfully some TOs have sense to ban new rules until the FAQ is out.

  • @toyznthehood
