    That poor brown belt, he looks freaking terrified every time he's about to get thrown. Great instruction but fuck being uke to the instructor at that gym!

    Many thanks for posting this. As an older guy who has just returned to judo (with all of the attendant aches and pains), I think that Tani Otoshi could be a realistically achievable throw to make part of my repertoire.

    Weird to demonstrate tsuri komi ashi with a tsurite witch is pulling instead of lifting your opponent 🤔

    Tori's right hand is still called hikite, even when it's on tori's shoulder. In most demonstrations of this throw hikite hand will be on tori's arm and driving the elbow in, but here it's pulling, like a good hikite should.

    Maybe someone can answer this: If he grips into the Gi, as we can see at 0:40, how can he not be hurt when the Uke falls on his hand like that? When I throw Tani-Otoshi I have to make sure that my hand is not even under the back, to prevent injury. Is there a trick?

  • @amirbutcher2147
    @amirbutcher21478 жыл бұрын

    +Acarnia EDIT: Watching it a few times, I don't really know to be honest but oh well it's still food for thought. Perhaps the back doesn't fall on top of the hand, but rather such a powerful grip allows the tori to keep that side of the uke's back lifted somewhat, thereby negating anything? I was just thinking if I was physically dominating someone with a grip like THAT, I'd probably be able to do something simply by keeping that area pulled in. Just thinking, though.

    Makeshure you dont lean over to much even when you have the top grip, else uchi mata can still kick in, thats how i counter top grips. (He shows it the good way but thats an important fact he didnt mention while showing😉)
