@imbiggy You'll notice he keeps the right arm very tight to him and their heads close together. This demonstration is perfect and the key is to keep uke close and tight to you if you're worried about injury.

Actually, hikikomi-gaeshi is a version of sumi-gaeshi which has 2 forms: one where tori grabs uke's right arm with both hands, and the other version involves tori grabbing uke's right arm with the left hand and gripping uke's belt with the right hand.

wow, the obi sumi-gaeshi seems dangerous. how do you prevent your uke from neck injury with a move like that!?
@viator2213 жыл бұрын
@imbiggy If you're taking him at an angle to injure his neck, you're going too high over the head and there's a good chance you're not going to get the throw. Tori takes uke more to the side at a 45 which throws him nicely on his back. Search Russian throw - front view if you want to see it done all crazy overhead style.

Q1: Are there any tall thin judoka champions? Q2: Are there any short stocky Muay Thai champions?

hi, basicly hikkomi gaeshi is an old name for sumi gaeshi as in the japanice can use more than 2 meansings to a word as in ippon for 10 point win and one arm sholder thorw. and kata as single and form. so i guess its an old way of saying sumi gaeshi. doing a little looking i see its very raryly used as hikkomi any more. its more like the old school name whats basicly gone out the window. if im right =P

@imbiggy The obi sumi-gaeshi is a rather dangerous technique, but luckily in competition it's not something you often see. People that get caught with it are those that tend to try and fight bent over, which is a big no-no anyways - something they'll get called on quickly.

When you grab the belt, throw is now consider hikikomi gaeshi, not sumi gaeshi. This is per the Kodokan.
