Another Eamonn, another interview, and another time: just recently there was a programme with a title like 'When 60s TV Goes Horribly Wrong' which showed how stirring up hostility is nothing new on shows like these. I believe it was from 1966. Eamonn Andrews was talking merrily with Muhammed Ali, when a fresh participant was brought into the conversation. It was a guy called David Susskind who promptly launched into a lengthy and angry diatribe about Islam. Andrews didn't make much, if any, intervention there, either. In fact, the camera actually settled on Andrews for a few seconds, which were very telling. Far from any look of horror, as if to say "please let this stop, soon" he was just sitting back with a look of smug satisfaction.

She wouldn’t be allowed to dress like that in India.

@@wfdix1 Actually that figure is probably correct, not from the Indian famine during WWII which was about 1-3 million, but from the accumulated total of all colonised people, mostly due to first contact diseases and long term land dispossession leading to starvation and further diseases. Just the American natives alone, vast numbers were wiped out shortly after contact. Explorers reported endless empty villages after they returned from first exploration. The Amazon civilisation that created the terra preta totally vanished, as did whoever created the cultivated fields in the Congo jungles.

I thoroughly recommend watching debates at Cambridge & Oxford Universities where he absolutely destroys the ideal that colonialism was a massacre.
