How about a video on how to jump a gap jump with a short (bike length), or so transition, with a mellow degree angle, and having to cover a good distance to clear the gap. I mostly rely on speed, but would like to slow it down a bit with proper technique and still clear the gap. Do you need to get back more, counter weight more, since it’s not a steep jump, and really pop the j-hop more explosive in that instance?

@@Theshredacademy The thing is, when a beginning jumper approaches a lip fear will cause them to squat down and move back. And that can cause them to get bucked. So the stand up thing can really help in that regard. It's not as advanced and technical as what you show of course. Having taken a lot of in person coaching, I can tell you that having more than one coaching cue, or movement change in your head at one time is really hard. Good videos though. Shred on!

I'm sorry but you HAVE to load throughout the transition to the lip. If you load half way through the transition and not up to the lip, you will get bucked. If you feel that your suspension is bottoming out on you, check your sag. and if your sag is set correctly then, add tokens to your suspension.

I will definitely be using this info as I try to gain altitude, clear bigger jumps, and get over my fear of heights. But, for jumps that I overshoot, squashing is my only option. Hi, thanks for video. Just my 5 cents. In my experience one should be careful and explain all pre-prep and nuances when talking about rear shock preload, because it’s more for advanced riders. For beginners/intermediate riders it’s enough with general/symmetrical suspension + body preload and standup straight on the lip technique. Shock rebound and air presure can’t be ignored and needs to be adjusted for the riders weight and balanced with front fork as well, as a starting point - proper sag and NO or very little rebound in front. (for jumping). Poorly adjusted rear shock with too little rebound can and will kick rear wheel and riders body weight up and can send rider in dangerous and unintended front-flip. Have seen even some more lucky ones who manages to land steep on front wheel, but survival instincts kick in and they push on brakes and goes over the bars.

there are similarities to bunny hop, jhop; there is 1 genuine difference though - you do not jump the rear wheel off the flat surface i strongly recommend testing what I write out - I do not mean to be a couch pundit ;) there is one not obvious similarity - to ski jumping - as a friend of mine noticed when watching bikers jumping at the pumptrack there is a sweetspot of body explosion - it is the very edge of the lip - the closer to the edge you jump off, the more energy gets converted to getting airborne you have to strart the movement earlier, but the reaction force of the ground should start close to the lip edge common mistake is jumping off too early you should not forget about the speed, and the speed at the edge is what counts - here lighter riders have an advantage because they loose less speed riding up the slope
