    just put one up and found as you did, the base plate is not 13 1/2 wide it's more like 14 1/2 ,the distance between the plates is also wrong, TG we placed the plate down before drilling for the second post as the hose wouldn't have fit,

    Yes. I capped it. I simply cut out a piece of steel to the right shape, drilled a couple holes, and bolted it on with a homemade gasket to seal it up.

    First, check laws where you live. Physically removing the EGR and capping off the hole is the easy part. After that, you need a tune so that the ECU isn't looking for it. The tuners on this page come with a great endorsement, so perhaps one of them can help you: www.blacksmokeracing.com/software-specialists/

    Somewhat. I didn't source the TCU from Drew and I don't think it's as snappy as it could be. If you watch my latest video kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIJop8iwcbq1kZc.htmlsi=C1JVamoTa4oggvr5&t=672 , the 3-4 shift seems kind of slow. No bro, don’t put nothing inside there to pull valve cover off. There’s an easy way to pop it off but for some reason it’s like the best kept secret ever. First time I tried to remove it, two days later I was still at it. I’m not exaggerating. So I paused everything I was doing and Iooked at it for a while (about 3 days) lol. If you notice in the middle of the valve cover there’s two cut off holes and each have a shiny ball at the bottom. All you need to do is put a hammer or a medium size crowbar against that bottom ball and just gently pry it up. Start slowly, don’t put all your power into it cuz you don’t want to damage or bend your aluminum valve cover. It’s coming off very easily because you’re right in the center. I usually pop it off from the first cutoff hole closer to the front of the car. The other cut off hole I don’t think I ever had to use it plus I find there’s not enough room. Try it, it will only take you a minute. As a matter fact, wiggling the valve cover off the block will take you longer than popping it off

    Hi there, will start to work on my om648 next week, 1st thing - changing the manifold with one that does not have flaps, question please, that is the best location for turbo gauge pressure readings? thank you!

  • @ArtOfDiesel
    @ArtOfDiesel6 ай бұрын

    Some have told me that they can buy the non-US version without swirl flaps, which is probably a lot better than the braze job I did on mine. Early in this video, when I pop the hood, you can see that I drilled a hole in the aluminum plug I brazed where the EGR used to be, and put the sensor there. It's at a right angle to the flow, so the Bernoulli effect may be why my measured pressures are a few PSI lower than what the MAP sees. This is directly across from the MAP sensor, so I thought it'd be good. The walls in the manifold are pretty thin in most areas, so I think this is pretty good overall. One might drill the hole at an angle like the MAP uses.

    Hi, i saw your egts and they are pretty high. Your injectors are probably maxxed out. That means your power guess is about right. To lower the egts, you can tell your tuner to increase boost a little bit. These turbos can hold up to 35 safe psi at 4k rpm. With the amount of fuel, you would be able to lower the egts by increasing your boost to 25 psi. That would drop them by quite a lot. Cheers and happy new year.

  • @ArtOfDiesel
    @ArtOfDiesel6 ай бұрын

    Thanks, @lukas0054, we discussed this and we could actually get a bit more out of these injectors without pushing the injection duration too far past TDC. We did actually have more fueling and recently backed off on that. I brought up that we could probably get away with more boost as we went through the process and we discussed that. (This gauge reads ~4psi low...so I'm not recommending GlowShift gauges to anybody!) We decided to back off on pushing the Lithuanian turbo further. We'd be more concerned about the high EGTs if I was going to be spending a lot of time in that range, like the truckers might when they are pulling a load up a long grade. For such a short duration, we judged we are good-to-go for now. I might still decide to take this car a couple steps further with larger injectors, the bigger high pressure pump, and a better hybrid turbo. If the subscriber count jumped up and I had paid subscribers on my Substack, I'd do a lot more to make that happen. For now, you might take an interest in my more important channel @Paracontrarian, where a lot more content will be coming in the near future. Thanks!

    @@ArtOfDiesel If the boost is actually24 psi, then the EOI is too far past TDC. OM648 with their quite short stroke, compared to other engines, don´t like too much advanced SOI and too long durations (EOI should not go over 10 degs after TDC). I have the came car and I stopped at 84 mm3 of fuel with 24 degs of SOI at 4k rpm (SOI could be advanced 1-2 degrees more, because stock injectors don´t make such PCP spikes, so about 88 mm3 without too high EGTs). About the fuel economy, I have optimalised SOI tables and got up to 43 MPG on highway. Now my injectors started leaking little bit, so I have ordered big injectors from ETK. I hope, that the fuel economy does not drop significantly. Best bigger injectors for dailying are probably Black smoke racing street injectors, which are good for little bit over 400 hp. ETK´s turbo isn´t bad. It is on the smaller side, but strong enough for reliable 370hp at 35 psi of boost, where the gearbox starts to fail.

    I had the front and rear wheels off the ground, so the differential in the transfer case would allow movement. When you move the front axle in one direction, the rear axle can move in the opposite direction. If you only have the front or the rear wheels off the ground, you can try putting it in neutral, but I think it's best to get all four in the air and take advantage of the transfer case diff.

However, I've owned a few Mercedes diesels, now, and it's nice to give names. My R-class was Rhonda, my wife's ML is Mary Lou, and my E-class is Evonne. You can probably see the pattern in this!
