Mercedes OM642 Injector Return Line How-To

In this 2018 vintage video I show how to remove the injector return lines on an OM642 Mercedes turbo diesel. This is the 3.0 V6 used in many Mercedes vehicles from 2007 onwards, including my R320 CDI.

How would I know what's leaking the injector or return line?

My R280, for 3 years, starts badly when cold, and it's not the heaters, nor the starter motor, nor the battery. Neither is the preheat relay. Nor the injectors, to the naked eye. I suspect some diesel pipe joint. Those injector return joints usually give problems over the years? Is there any other joint that, being deteriorated, allows air to enter the circuit when it is cold or the car stopped for many days? Thanks

@rubendariofg , every joint in your diesel injection system is a possible leak where air could get in. Even the fuel filter attachments. I would expect that it's not in the high-pressure system on these direct-injection systems or you would certainly have found fuel spraying/dripping somewhere. So, all I can guess to look at is the lines up to the high pressure pump, including the fuel filter.

Do you have access to an MB Star tool? With that, you could check what the sensor is seeing at the rail. I don't know if some other tools might be able to look at that. Do you have any error codes?
