Rick put the burner in the bag watch your scores tumble
Not too far off the normal driver but straighter. Would like to see you do video with your current driver at ten and a half and eleven and half degrees and see if the dispersion is better without sacrificing too much distance.
Marty Jertsen (PING VP of Fitting) talked about mini drivers on the PING Proving Grounds podcast a few times, and also in the WITB they posted on the PING YT channel. PING did some data analysis and found that players that drove the ball 300 yards or farther tended to use the 3-wood off the tee 90+ percent of the time. In this case, it makes a lot of sense to move to a mini, but also once you go mini driver and realize you're never hitting it off the deck, it makes sense to just carry a second driver like Finau did recently. Jertsen does the same - 12 degrees of loft and 2 or so inches shorter - so easy to hit. I started to do this and love the setup. Big driver goes 280, small driver goes 260.
Burner for me, have the previous model & they just work.
Mini Burner all day long more versatile proving more useful in the bag, love the retro looks 👌🏻 I think the AI smoke size is probably too big to be a 3 wood replacement if you still plan to carry a driver, The TM would easily sit next a driver in the bag for fairway finding and long par 5's
I too agree it depends upon what missions you have for the club. I have an old Bang Golf 14 degree 3W as my driver, with a 42" shaft. I can hit the darn thing pretty straight, not far, those days are history, but straightish, definitely in the short grass. I am more a plinker, course management player. Other people, they will have diverse needs. I'm a mid-handicap player. I carry 5W, 7W, 9W, 11W, 7i-PW, and 52, 56, 60, 68 wedges. Find what helps you, use it, and practice lag putting a lot to 2 or 3 feet. Everyone can cut their scores using what fits their game/swing, course management, and lag putting to makable range.
Here’s a question for you Rick, you are regularly hitting clubs and reviewing them on your monitor in the studio and being completely honest, you seem to always hit the ball relatively straight, according to that. However, I watched your open qualifying video the other day and regularly watch some of your other videos, break 75 etc and in real life, you hit your drives all over the place at times. Do you ever question how realistic the monitor is
Send it to México please!
I have only ever tried the burner and it is incredible !! i usually use it to replace my driver off the tee but it doesn't go as far as my driver because of lofts, and is sooo easy to hit of the floor as well. The best driver/3 wood combo club ever. Well done Taylormade
How does the Burner mini compare to your current 3W gamer?
The Burner was so much nicer shots. (One dodgy pull ruined the numbers). Making the fairway is key. I think its less flashy, but a better club for Rick
Taylormade all the way more versatile both for fairways and teeing up. Remember your looking for a fairway finder if you have trouble with driver there are options like loft and shaft length
That was a Battle Royale! It was interesting that the BRNR was the same on and off a tee. Even fairways don't hit like that. I had actually thought the Callaway would shine cranked down and weight front, but it just seemed to go too high to get to 300, the BRNR beat it, which was a surprise! I wish the stores near me had both to test and compare for my swing, as I just really struggle with driver.
Put it in the bag rick, you’re struggling with your 3w and this is the answer. Put your 3w shaft in it and play it!!! I did and it will never leave the bag!!!
How about a review of the latest TM Mini Burner compared to the actual original one (which I think came with a Bubble Shaft)? Would be very interested to see the difference in performance.
I have last years burner mini best decision I’ve made will never take it out of bag I struggle a lot less with it off the tee since a smaller face equals a bad shot not going as far left or right as a driver off the deck longer than a 3 wood makes more par 5s reachable in 2, the callaway is for most golfers a club just to be used off a tee being too hard to hit off deck the Brnr is the better all rounder and better value for money
That’d be a two wood in old money. Remember that callaway deuce?
All sounds great, but who can hit it straight, not me!
I am a late bloomer to golf (58) and only started playing last year. So sorry if this is a silly question but, what is the advantage of a mini-driver over say your 3 wood? If so good, shouldn't everyone carry one then? Thanks and love the content Rick. 🤘😎
I dont have a driver or 3 wood, so why not a mini driver? Just asking
Interesting that you when you hit them individually on your other videos the carry and total distance off the tee where flipped
Please try some performance shafts. Throw the CQ or VR in both then go head to head or old faithful “orange one”. I don’t know which would suit your swing best but I’d guess CQ or DI
Another great review from KZread's best. Thanks Rick.
I hit the TM- liked it amd was on the fence for a while but really just played far too similar to my 3 wood to make sense buying it. Bought the new Callaway and hit it today for the first time and absolutely love it, around 30 yards behind my standard driver. Far more accurate and feels much nicer than the TM mini, quite a bit louder though. Surprisingly just as easy to hit off the deck as my 3 wood so it's staying in the bag and 3 wood just gone on marketplace.
Which brand could've helped Rick qualify for The Open 😂
Well, it’s no surprise that you hit better the club that you like the most, isn’t it. If you have such a huge bias before even doing the comparative trial, it’s gonna definitely affect it. I think it’s very bold and refreshing for tailor-made to do a throwback retro look.
I have them both ( each 11.5 ) and the Taylor made wins it for me, way easier off the deck and great off the tee but if you are buying one of these to replace a driver because you struggle off the tee then the Callaway might be the better choice for you with the larger head and I too find it to play the left side more.
Can you please review the ping i530 irons please
Just picked up the taylormade. Been great so far
Taylormade for me always wanted one
$500 for a mini driver? These companies are pricing out the average joes that can’t justify spending $3,000 for a full set of clubs. A full size driver is $500-$600. There is no reason a mini driver should be similar price.
Budget buyers like us don't buy brand new anyways. Will see about these in the second hand market
@@lawbinsonthey hold their value in the second hand market even seen them being sold for more than retail since they are limited edition you’d be lucky to get one for a good price in good condition
You gotta figure the shaft in as well. The callaway has a lower spinning, stiffer profile, shaft. The Taylor made is a higher launching, mid spin, shaft. Which completely showed in the off the tee vs off the floor testing.
Why would you want a driver 'in cold weather' club? Even the head size is bigger than the burner. Burner is the true mini-driver.
I feel like Rick always hits TaylorMade clubs better than any other brand, yet constantly choose other brands for his bag. Is he just daring to be different? Doesn’t make much sense to me.
Been waiting for this ! ✊️
Love my Burner 11,5 (plays 12) replaced my Radspeed. I lost like 20 yards but I’m always in play. Also easy to hit off the deck on both fairway and in the ruff! Just love it!
Any chance you can review the Jailbird Cruiser putter Rick, I'm looking at one and want to see what a pro thinks.
Been playing the Callaway for a few days, it’s been so fun to have the in bag! Shooting well with it also, the 13.5 fits perfectly between my 9 degree AI smoke Triple and my 16.5 degree AI smoke 3 wood HL!
taylormade....i hit mine about 305 total.....off the deck about 265, but i don't swing as hard. I replaced my 3-wood and driver with it. Now i have room for 1 more club........ what shall it be........
Callaway looks nicer Rick. 🏌♂️👍
You need to turn the taylormade head cover inside out, it would make it worth so much more 👍
Can’t wait to test the Callaway. I will never buy another taylormade again after they always broke on me.
I'll wait for the Cobra.
Taylor made bought all their TECH from Adam’s!!! Talk about copy and paste….
“Callaway was harder to hit off ground” Yet had higher launch and more spin. 🤔
I actually like the more classic look at address for the TaylorMade. I might favor the Callaway if they’d remove the AI Smoke logo from the crown. For some reason, it’s off-putting for me.
If they called these 2 woods no one would buy one, call it a mini driver and say it's limited edition charge 4x the price and people are eating it up.
Rick, if I were you I'd consider replacing your driver with either of these mini drivers. You have a tendency of being a little wild off the tee, like a couple of times at Open Qualifying. While a mini driver won't give you the raw distance, at least you'll find the fairway a lot more, and if you can carry it 270 yards then you won't be losing much distance.
I have an 11.5 brnr and part of me got it for nostalgia because i had an old burner driver back in the day but part of me got it because i was looking for help at the top of the bag. The 11.5 degree one is really a rocketship. I didnt even consider the 13.5 because i was really looking for a driver replacement. For whatever reason with my swing i square the club up a lot more with this and it still goes 265 or so. I haven't found success hitting it off the deck, but i love it as a tee club. Its let me go mini, 4 wood, 19° 3h, 4i at the top and im sure the more i play with it the better ill score.
i get overall look being a club deciding factor, but the colour of the bottom of the sole is pretty funny. Literally the same materials and "technology" primarily being glue weights inside and the face, but because one is a different colour it looks older lol
