Wild swimming my arse. When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s it was called going for a dip in the canal, lake or river. The only wild thing about it was, we had a bloody good time of it 😊. My elder brother who's 70 going on 12 took it up again last year, and went 'wild swimming' up near Frodsham way. Went wild swimming came back with the wild shites 😅.

It is a futile question. What we have to address is not the relative intelligence of leavers but the disastrous consequences. A great many fallacies, confusions and wilful dishonesty was canvassed, in the guise of thought, and practised on a gullible public, and they still are, but the root cause of Brexit is, sad to say, the legends, the ignorance of an electorate that has cherished these absurdities as if they were facts, and disguised or hidden the true nature of English History . I am sorry to have to vaunt my own education in France but it is germane to the origins of the fallacies ad distortions that were cultivated and exploited for over long in the English Mind. In France one was not allowed to specialise at fourteen, one was not allowed to drop languages, One had an extensive education in European History, and more germane, Geography and Science and Maths were also compulsory. The Regional Geography of Europe combined with a knowledge of its History is a corrective to legends that have permeated English Attitude,, that, and the excuse that we are an island. To that singular facet of our Geography I can only remark that the Blitz and the U2 and now missiles and nuclear weapons demolish the illusion we are an Island In World Politics. World War II, and more to the point the post-war History of Western Europe and the changes that entailed, do not seem to have been sufficiently inculcated into political perspectives, and the over specialisation of our curriculum sustains and even cultivates an exceptionalism that is no longer viable or even apposite , But I regret I must return to the Media and the Press, and my response to this particular Item. It is essentially a silly question, a polarising question, and it is designed to be, it is intended to pinion people on their attitudes by placing them on the defensive and it is designed, more mischievously, to imply that those of us who are Europeans in Culture and experience are somehow less 'patriotic' Ironically it is the hostile attitude to those of us who are European Orientated in our pragmatism that have alienated us, and this hostility was deliberately fermented and stirred up, as it still is by Nigel Farage and Reform ad Brexiteer extremists . I regret to say that this hostility, this unreasoning hostility to Europe and European advocates resonates with the more ill considered, Ignorant, and, Yes!, I must say the stupid, but the hostility itself isolates Britain, and whether the ignorant and stupid predominate in the Brexit Result is of less moment that we are seen by Europeans, the USA and others in the West as a hopeless case because the expedients and justifications for Brexit, in the face of the evidence, make us absurd and increasingly irrelevant.
