Did I miss it or did Mr.Sheahan completely missed a VERY rare option on this boat - A BOW THRUSTER! Not bad for a budget Outremer.

Liked your description of a the centerboard, but you also pointed out one ( not both! ) disatvantages not only can you shear a pin but SERVICING of the board is only from under the water line and if you back down on them you rupture the Trunk! Ther exist only 3 basic appendages ,Centerboards, Daggerboards and Keels [ up till know! you should advise yourself of SCABBOARD TECHNOLOGIES....Lets talk! ] Norman Cook

Only arrogant pommys thinking french team its not sailing knowledge having? Money blahblah wow..... kiwis are great without to mutch money and people... Can english even winning with hundred times more money? Then sometimes to mutch its getting to many strategies to follow. Like alinghi winning with monkey buying all from NZ sailors and then falling deep about rules😉 Alinghi and swiss telling be a sailing nation and only with enough money till arrogance falling over a little law. Kiwis was learn law and lawyers AC in 90is. Im happy an hutchinson its now leader of american team. AC was decades to long decadent law winning.

Of course for english, american and swiss this open sharing competition its over they thinking? Kiwis are not stupid and sharing all and getting beaten straight away helping further then they need to start. Hopefully kiwis, Luna Rossa ,french strong enough against american.... What alinghi and GB are we see.

I feel it goes against the whole ethos of the cup where teams design their own boats with their own research, testing and thinking, to a rule. The rule that allows this, feels like it's there just to make the kiwis some money. The Americas cup was never supposed to be a 'one design' and this has opened it up to being just that.

  • @actiaint
    @actiaintКүн бұрын

Yeah but the kiwis are in every team, weve shared tech and personnel for 3 decades. We gave in to hosting our defence in Barcelona which saved all the european teams many thousands… we tun on the smell of an oily rag as it is.

That would be true .... if there was no development of the boats between now and the AC event. But there will be new sails, new foils, upgrades to software the systems. So I think you'll find that the ETNZ boat and the OER boat don't end up at the same place.

👍 .. innovation has been keeping ahead of competition .. especially when development of such a radical concept is accelerating in leaps & bounds .. the next gen cup boats will almost be autonomous .. they'll be just steer it around & strategy .. they can just do it now .. hydraulics currently powered by peddles will be powered by pito pressure tubes at the base of the rudders feeding vane motors ala air power tools .. interesting times these

I'm not counting the French out, but the Bermuda Cup was sailed in almost one design boats and they won only 2 out of 10 races and were eliminated. Also, their isn't much history of France doing too well in the AC despite being - by far - the best off-shore racing nation, so I think if France challenges for a few Cups in a row with the same team and has moderate funding, then I think they could win.

  • @JulienBorrel

Sailing culture has changed a lot in France in the last five years, mainly driven by the foiling Imocas and Ultims. Teams are more professional and many French engineers are spread in other teams design departments. Team culture has always been the Achille’s of French AC campaigns. This changed a lot in the recent years. So I won’t take past France efforts in the AC has a blueprint for this one.

My questions are why the switch from the catamaran boats with hydrofoils to the monohulls with hydrofoils, and which is actually faster around a race course. The cats were clocking 70 kph at times and turning on a dime. Possibly the dinosaurs that still run sail racing hate to see multihulls take over?

  • @lasral22

These boats are close to the 100kph mark. Last americas cup there was chat that ETNZ had broken 56knt mark in training. But the weather never played its part and we got the conditions to see those speeds.

It's hardly the "leading edge of the sport". It's a fairly interesting side show. Given the constraints imposed by the AC honchos on the course, and the lock down on any real information regarding the boats: their development and performance, it is unlikely to have many fans at all.

Australia here. I like your work, along with that of Mozzy. The design race is interesting. I still like the Kiwis for the win, but I hate what Grant Dalton has done with shifting the venue. Too many people doing stuff just for money. Eventually it will ruin the sport. Matt, you need a better starting watch for your 5-minute starting sequence.

Honestly, what was ETNZ supposed to do? It's like saying to someone who badly wants a car he can't afford to take on a loan with impossible payments. Is that really better than relinquishing one's home court venue to continue to be viable financially as a team??

  • @ChimeraActual

Yes, money runs the Cup, but the promoters have misunderstood how to appeal to the viewers, and their money. You can't let the syndicates set the rules there has to be an understanding of what makes the product be watchable and involving. MotoGP, while not perfect, is a good example of how to run a sport like the AC.

The womens trophy was revealed the other day. Why is the youth and womens trophy not returned each america's cup cycle and passed to the new winner, like the auld mug itself? I think this would make the trophys more exciting, they will be on public display again, instead of getting dust in a club house.

Every time I see a test of an Outremer I can't shake off the feeling it's got WAY too many ropes in and around the cockpit. They are everywhere. And they go everywhere. There is a configuration for this helm position and that, and you can control the sheets while hanging upside down from the stern, and you can raise the sails from under the water. But the end result is a spaghetti dish in the back. I seriously doubt it's a good thing for cruisers. And it looks like a tripping hazard. Why there are no rope boxes to put the tails in?
