I went back to cables due to replacement cost. Axs is incredible for sure. But when it inevitably hits a rock it’s $$$$$$.

I have GX T-type on my Oso. I got this bike to go into the furthest reaches of the wild to hit gnar and DHs usually inaccessible to analog riders absent a shuttle- you know, those places without cell phone coverage. Last thing I need is a drivetrain that requires an app and uses “algorithms” so when it is not working well I can’t even figure put why. Oh, and another battery in my life. Give me a cable system that does not require charging and that I can fix on the trail in the middle of nowhere with a screwdriver, allen wrench and pliers. And that an LBS that doesn’t have the latest and greatest might have parts for if needed- and know how to work on it. It would be one thing if wireless shifting provided a shift that was head and shoulders above cable. And while the new SRAM wireless stuff might be head and shoulders above its cable brethren, it is no better than Shimano XT that I’ve been riding for years. I am going back to cables, probably Shimano XT link glide.

My issue is that I'm so used to grip shift (been on xx1 for years), and is so dialed, the thought of buttons and batteries seems just silly. I can dump gears to be exactly where I want to be with a tiny movement. And I've trained myself to know exactly how far to turn to get exactly what I want in no time. To me it's genius, still can't understand the whole trigger thing and why the masses uses it.

Not convincing at all. Battery life is a non issue, derailleur noise, never noticed it, tactile feel is all a big plus. How can you improve on tap, tap?

Tnx for a helpful video. But I do feel there is more to "suspension" than only the front fork or shock setup. Tier pressure is for me an overlooked point. As well as the carbon vs alloy rims. And not to forget the handlebar and grip choice

Cascade link went over center over compressed rear shock jamb rear tire against seatpost I went over the bars took 3 mechanics to pull it out sent link and frame to cascade for evaluation and they could not find anything wrong except minor bearing wear and they sent all it back said tuff pal we can’t find any fault with our product. Lesson learned Factory engineers design frames best not to try to make a frame travel further than it was designed for! Now I’m stuck with a damaged $4k carbon frame front triangle. I changed back to Santa Cruz standard link to be safe. I have videos without shock on that I sent to cascade they you can see how link allows head of bolt gouge into frame and jamb

I'm a heavy guy and I ride fairly aggressively. So either I'm bottoming out the shock on the jumps/drops or I'm overpressured & harsh on the fine stuff. I just ordered some volume spacers to ramp up the progression so that I can use a little less pressure overall. we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping to get better small bump sensitivity whilst being supported for the bigger hits. Luckily volume spacers are a low cost investment and kit has various sizes so I have room to fiddle. Thanks for the tips!

I can shift silently with X01 mechanical. The axs and the new transmission just shoots and makes a ton of noise (and wear to the cassette). If you can shift good, electronic shifting is nonsense. I never had any problems with cables. And I am on e-bike.

Personally I've been in a bit of trial and error lately given I had no idea what fork and shock should and could feel like. I had to change tokens to try that, and dial in my sag front to back. The factory tuned token amount in the shock was actually what worked best, but how could I know without having anything to compare it to. In the fork however, it did help to remove the 1 token that was in there as standard, but once that was done I landed at pretty much the recommended settings by Fox when I followed their bracketing procedure. The only change is 1 click faster LSC on the fork, and the rest is recommended settings. As with the tokens I cannot know if the recommended settings was any good at all when I had nothing to compare it with, so I'm very glad that I now know what feels better and what feels worse. I thought I wanted less compression in the fork to make it feel more plush, but when I just followed the bracketing procedure I just did not like it at all. It just felt like soggy mush, and now I like a more damped and smooth transition. Another thing I thought beforehanded was just like mentioned in this video that I'd might end up with less PSI in the fork. Well I have 88PSI instead of the recommended 94PSI, but I am at 20% sag which is recommended for trail/enduro, as well as 30% sag in the shock. Next ride I'll play a bit with tire pressures because I suspect that may be the final touch.

As I’m reading comments here,I’m wondering. Is there so big difference between classic axs and axs transmission? I’ve never tried classic axs but I already had an XO and GX transmission and both were absolutely amazing. No rattling noise or any other problem. Everything was without any problems. On the other way with my cable gx and xo1 I had I needed every month to do some repairs with cable tension and the most of the time the derailleur wasn’t running smoothly. It was skipping gears and etc. It can be just bad experience but I can’t tell.

I’ve had a lot of time on XX and GX transmission as well, and they are extremely different. XX has been the most quiet of all of the sram drivetrains I’ve ran to date. Shifting is very different, and the pod controller is quite different as well. It’s not without its pitfalls, but I definitely rank transmission as a big leap forward for Sram.

Reminds me of the first time I took my buddy to Snowshoe and we rode a "blue", specifically M. He wasn't ready having only rode Bburg and Carvins. He was like, "Wait, that was a blue?" 😂

Great video highlighting Carvins! It is a little jewel for sure. Gaunlet is my fav trail there hands down with Royalty next. Gaunlet roots get gnarlier every year which is so good! The down/upside is Bburg development has grown like crazy, so it's real hard to want to travel up there haha! But I'll be getting back soon once the wrist is a little better off and able to handle the gnar. Shred on!

SRAM does need to figure out letting users to completely power down when transporting bikes. I am beginning to aee adventages of wireless shifting (rented few wireless gravel bikes) and didn't agree with noise or feel, but battery drain is a big flaw. Wish they just added a switch to power down. Removing battery is a bit of risk of losing them. I am not sure about Di2 tho.

I am surprised how few people have captured the issues he’s mentioning. 1. The cassette ratios feel way too wide for steep climbing. 2. Battery will die on a long road trip. Take it out for the drive. 3. Awful CLUNK when changing gears. 4. Chain slap. I have been pondering going to Shimano on my Supercaliber.

It is obious for me that cables have better feel, a total control and nice feeling, freedom without being chained to batteries, charging, water and weather... (Yes, come weather drain very quickly any battery). I never had desire to change from Shimano Ultegra to any electric powered groupset. With perfectly crafted TIME framset, it looks much better. I've never missed gear, or dropped chain ; ) What's the point? Progress? Better feel? Being trendy?

They were supposed to go fishing today on their day off, but instead I got a photo of his boss and him all geared up ready to ride Snowshoe! With all of us being from CO, I wanted to get an idea what the park was like and found this video. I agree with others - you did an outstanding job putting this video together. These trails look legit! Janky, chunky, and with fun features sprinkled in. Now I'm totally jealous!

I would be intrested if they could be wired up to the main ebike battery vs. having to keep up with charging seperate batteries. But then I suppose you would need cables to do that kind of defeating the purpose although those cables would be thinner and more flexable.

My favorite mountain bike saying is: “it’s not the bike, it’s the rider.” In my experience no matter how well you set up your bike it won’t change the way you ride. My friends bike is a 6000$ bike and even so, me on my 3000$ bike, I’ve been riding for less time than he has but practice much more, which pays off because I am a much better rider than he is.
