So me and my friends do lots of stuff at work and at home so why not share it with everyone? My day job is working as a heavy equipment operator for my local municipality and I also have a small collection of equipment I do side work with.

Actually made a splitter on my lathe and welded some ribs on it to cut. It generally splits a little bit and then it ends up just bringing it all out on the cable.

Why are you digging the main up as a side job? Shouldn't a service line replacement from the main to the meter pit be the towns responsibility?

It is. That's who we were working for. It's a small village that doesn't have any maintenance personnel. They just buy water from the neighboring town and hire any maintenance that needs done.

so does the main basically have valves butted to it with a compression fitting on the house service side? BTW, I'm amazed at all the hacks in that line under the street. Makes you wonder why they would do such patch work when the correct way isn't any harder.
@TimMcArdleАй бұрын
Yes, the saddle on the main has what is called a corporation stop (corp) that has a turn valve on it. That was definitely a hacked up job no doubt. I found that a lot of guys around here have never heard of using cables the way we do. It sure saves a ton of work!
