If you dig a sump hole next to the main you could have a clear field to do your connection and would not fill the new pipe with dirty water.

That hydraulic cutter sure makes a lot nicer cut than trying to use the gas chip saw. Wish I had one of those when I was working with distribution systems. Glad to see you and the crew again!

I always enjoy your videos. I am a one man show in a town in Texas with about 75 meter connections. I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can eventually do our own repairs. I always learn something each time I watch one of your videos. Do you ever make repairs on Transite pipe? I wish that TCEQ in Texas would make available training on distrubution system repairs but there doesn't seem to be much out there from TCEQ.Keep up the good work and keep those videos coming, they are appreciated more than you will ever know!

Here where I am in nc we could never get away with not cutting control joints before digging the machine in, the whole road would peel up!!! Lol Keep working hard brothers

Good stuff. I remember one hydrant job I did as a Jr. Mech. The lead Mechanic installed check valve backwards, oops.

One thing we do when we are closing valves is paint an arrow on the ground with the direction we turned it to close it. Most of our valves are open left but there are a few open right too. Otherwise you can get confused if it’s open or closed, especially if you have a few that don’t work and have to close extra valves.

How has that hydraulic pipe cutter worked for yous? Any issues you’ve had with it and does it cut all different sizes? That’s a pretty cool piece of equipment. Especially when you have a hole that’s difficult to work in and having to turn the hand saw upside down to get all the way around

They are expensive but work awesome. Cables are a little pricey as well but seem to last pretty good. This one will cut up to 8" and our bigger one will cut 16"

Hey Tim would you be able to do a video on how to dig a main break pretty much just like tips and tricks that you’ve learned throughout the years? I might be moving into a operator position sometime soon. There’s not many videos explaining the best ways to do it. Thanks.
