Anyone know what gearing to try with a 2wd associated buggy with a 21.5 motor?
It depends on the track surface and how technical it is. Start off with a 27t and go from there. If you are noticing not enough punch, right away, lower the teeth. After about 3 minutes of hard driving, check your temp. If it is too hot, drop the teeth size. If you still have plenty of punch and your motor is not getting too hot, after a 6 min. run, you can add teeth to the pinion.
@@wutupclegg6618 perfect thanks, all I currently have is 72 spur and a 28 and a 30 pinions. So I just wasn't sure if I needed something different
@@MX-CO Let us know if you have more questions.
@wutupclegg6618 Thank you 😊 I bought a 17.5 Surpass V6 because you seemed to like it so much. I'm a newbie, and It is definitely fast, but after 3 races, I decided to buy a Surpass V6 21.5 and try that. Not because the 17.5 was bad, actually it is great, but just because I'm not very experienced and I'm thinking I will have better control. The 21.5 class in my area is quite competitive also. I won the first 2 races I did in the Novice class. Then tried 17.5 intermediate. I got 6th out of 7 in the main. but I crashed a lot, and that's what I'm working on trying to fix.
That's awesome to hear. Thank you for sharing.
Could you be competitive with any of these motors that you have tested?
That depends on a few things. What track are you racing on, how often do you crash, and how often does the other drivers crash. Track surface and setup is very important. If you are a racer who rarely crashes and/or makes mistakes, the almost any will be good. However, if the other drivers drive the same, then you'll need an upper edge.
so nice video!. whats is the main jet size on a yamaha yz 125 i have the same carburetor in the video. do you know that.. i dont have the manual and whats the float height is?. soo good video:)
Thank you for the compliment. Sorry, I don't have that info, you are asking for. I would highly recommend getting a service book. It will tell you everything.
I noticed the slop too. I know you said the upgrades arent worth it but would it be worth it to shim the rotor? Ive never shimmed a motor before so im assuming you shimmed the front end. I noticed some people shimming too much on the back side and the sensors were too far away to read properly. But i was curious if adding shims to the front would take the slop out and help performance. Thank you
Hello Legends Pizza. Is that a pizza joint you own? Where is it located? You usually shim the front of it. Sometimes, I will remove the rear shims and shim it from the front. You just have to make sure your rotor doesn't hit the sensors. The Surpass uses the same shims as the Trinity Slot Machines.
@wutupclegg6618 yes it's my restaurant. Located in the bay area with 2 locations
@wutupclegg6618 I'm on amain looking at shims and there is hundreds. I sorted by trinity and still don't understand what size the shims are. I see a few companies that make kits with a bunch if different sizes. I will keep searching but if you know the size it would help. Thank you for your guidance

Amazon has the lightweight one on sale today for $70 shipped. I wish they had the they regular spec one on sale too lol. I want another one for the T6.4. Im running a whitz racing competition motor 13.5 in the T6.4 now. I dont think the lightweight would be the best option for a stadium truck on carpet. I hope they put the spec on on sale tmw
That's a good price. Your correct on not using the lite weight for the T6.4. However, you will find it to be almost a torquey, if not more, as most of the motors out there.
@wutupclegg6618 interesting. I definitely want the stock spec for my t6.4 but maybe it's a better motor than the whitz racing. It has the hypersonic whitz racing 13.5 motor currently. I haven't tested the whitz to know what the specs are nor have a seen any videos on the motor. I bought the car off another you tuber that's local to me, Razor RC, and he sold it to me with all the electronics in it for 400. A steal lol. But I think he has a partnership with whitz so he runs some of their stuff.
@wutupclegg6618 I ordered a lightweight 13.5 lol I couldn't pass up the deal and it's Amazon so returns are easy. I'm curious to see it up against the Whitz Hyperspec Competition Motor that sells for $100. Do you have any experience with the Whitz brand?
I have not played with one yet. How does the V6 compare?
Love the video. Keep it up
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Trinity have bad stators and do not handle heat well. Just fyi
I've heard that. I am really curious about the Slot Machine 2.
Do you have a video on how to shim a motor? I've never taken one apart and would love to learn more
I might do one. I have seen quite a few videos out there that talk about it, but they might not be detailed enough. I'll put that on my list. I just have to get my new workspace up and going.
@wutupclegg6618 awesome thank you. Im sure it's fairly simple I'm jjsy intimidated to take the motor apart lol.
If you do, I highly recommend getting the WMH Racing motor service stand. It will help you realign the Rotor, when putting it back k in. And review it from the stator.
Great video. Thanks to you u bought a V6 lol. You mentioned since it's got lower rpms than the Fantom you suggested gearing up to account for that correct? I might install this on my B6.4 until I get the B7 built.
Very cool! Let me know how it turns out for you. Thank you for the complement. I really appreciate it.
@wutupclegg6618 I will report back. I also ordered a sky rc motor analyzer to help me dial it in better. I'm anxious to see the difference between the V6 and the team powers v5. At my local track they basically bully you into a team powers motor lol. The track is the north American distributor for team powers so all the employees walk you right over to them if you ask which motor to go with lol
How did it compare. I hear the V6 is a ton better.
@wutupclegg6618 I'm heading to nor cal tmw actually. I've had the surpass installed for a few weeks just haven't had time to get to the track. But I will report back tmw. Based on the numbers the V6 is much more powerful than Team Powers. In fact I'm tempted to buy a 13.5 for the T6.4 and might put one in the B7 I'm building now
That wouldn't be a bad idea. I wish I had time to get out on the track.
Ok i just bought a V6 17.5 lol. I figured it's the cheapest one might as well give it a shot and compare it to the team powers v5. I'm running this in my B6.4 on carpet. I might still give the G4R a shot too lol.
It's pretty crazy how inexpensive the V6 motors are. I heard, from many people, that they are the motor to beat. The G4R is also a good motor, but I would prefer the V6 for off-road carpet. The V6 has a bit more torque.
@wutupclegg6618 yea its kinda crazy they are about $90 shipped. That's at least $20 cheaper than the next decent motor and if it outperforms them that's even better lol. I love finding hidden gems. Sometimes the price of stuff deters us since we associate high price with better quality. So naturally we gravitate towards the more expensive motor assuming it's automatically better. Thank you for your guidance and help
Well the truth is, I feel the same way. RC racing is getting too expensive. I ended up getting a killer deal on the Surpass motors. Once I found out how good they were, I bought crap load of them and sold them as cheap as I could. After tax, shipping, and driving down to ship them, I pretty much broke even, I did that to help other racers save money.
@wutupclegg6618 yea for sure. It nickels and dimes you if you let it. I'm building a B7 and spent more on upgrades than the kit cost lol. But I have fun and enjoy it a lot. However, it definitely is expensive. That was nice of you to hook everyone up. Where did you order from? I found a guy on ebay if you order more than 2 you can get them down to about $73 shipped. I have 3 motors in my ebay cart as we speak lol. I was considering replacing the whitz racing motor in the T6.4 and I was thinking about turning the B7 into a 21.5 car or just getting another 17.5.
I was getting them from Surpass, directly. I had a total of 100 motors from them.
I built a 13.5 G4R with the optional rotor (mid 1760's) and it tests phenomenal. haven't actually run it yet, but the motor is a rockstar on the meters.
Which rotor did the motor come with? 1760 is pretty good. not too many rotors go that high.
@@wutupclegg6618 the stock rotor it came with was right at 1700.
@@dogsubx2 That's pretty low. I bet it had a pretty high RPM though.

@@dogsubx2 that's pretty fast! How was the torque?
which version of this do you recommend for indoor carpet off road? and yes im here cause you recommended this motor to me lol
Very cool! LOL... The Stock Spec one would work better. The light weight one would be a good on road motor.
@wutupclegg6618 haha ok thank you so much. Amazon only has the lightweight one so I will go to ebay or somewhere else for the stock spec. It looks like this surpass motor tests better than fantom, trinity and the G4r. I almost pulled the trigger so many times on the Hw G4R
Great video as always. Ive been eyeing these motors for some time now. However the new HW G4R has my attention too. Which motor do you recommend for an infoor off road carpet track thats fairly open. Thank you because i cant make my mind up lol. I have the team powers actinium v5 and im looking to move on to something else.
Thank you. I would lean towards the Surpass V6 Stock Spec. Lots of torque to pull out of the corners and still have a good top speed.
@wutupclegg6618 awesome thank you for the reply and suggestion. I wasn't looking at those but now I will. I had narrowed it down to fantom or hw but I will look at the surpass. They change the track every 6 weeks but it's a mix of tight turns, long jumps coming out of turns so important to get up to speed quick, and 1 long back straight. I appreciate your suggestion
@wutupclegg6618 oh I'm running a B6.4 and will eventually move it all into my B7 once it's built if that helps too. Thank you
The B7 is a nice buggy.
@@wutupclegg6618 so I ran the surpass. It's noticeably more powerful than the Team Powers
What you need are a couple different load settings, match one with gearing and then compare the others between different motors. Great video btw.
Are you talking about having different load motors?
@@wutupclegg6618 That would work, so would using different resistor values for the load. If I am correct I see 1RJ on those resistors, that is 1 ohm, a set of 2 ohm resistors would be less of a load.
I appreciate the compliment.
@@patissanchez Yes Sir. You are correct on all ends. When I purchased the Load Master, from WMH Racing, it included the 1RJ and 2RJ. I like the 1RJ because it causes the motors to work harder and give a better idea of how they would perform while racing. It also gives a good idea on how much torque a motor has. I had at least on motor that struggled with this load. It was a very high RPM motor, but this resistor showed it didn't have much torque.
@@wutupclegg6618 I wonder if you can find some 0.5RJ resistors. I first saw the load master a week ago and thought it was a bit over priced, at least it comes with another set of resistors.
So in a nutshell, they would be going the same speed if the hobbywing had z 28 tooth pinion and the tekin had a 32? Is that what you're saying? Also, what if the hobbywing had the 32 also? Or a 29 or 30? Also, I would like to see how the Surpass light weight compares. Love your videos, looking forward to more. I shared then as well.
Yes, they would be spinning your wheels at the same speed. Checking there temps would determine which one is working the hardest. The one working the least means it can go up higher on the pinion.
I really appreciate you sharing my vids. I can use all the help I can get.
Gotta love a jerry rig 😂
As soon as I get my new office set up, I'll start the testing.
@wutupclegg6618 sweet. I tried my new Surpass V6 lite weight for the first time today. It's fast, I had a Reedy and I would say the Surpass is a little faster. The reedy was quick as well though. I'm running a team associated 2wd, And I had been running a 72 tooth spur with a 28 tooth pinion, I tried a 31/72 with the Surpass and it seemed like it had plenty of power to handle it but It was running pretty hot. So I switched back to the 28/72 and it stays cool with that.
What's the temp with a 28t
Also, what's the fastest 21.5 thanks
I have not tested the 21.5 motors. However, the highest RPM motor I have tested is the Fantom Helix RS. The problem is, it didn't have much torque, so essentially, the would not be the best for tight offroad tracks.
@wutupclegg6618 Thanks, I'm new, but some local people I've seen with Reds seem to be fast.
Seems like everyone is Running R1 all of a sudden
I hear it's a good motor. I haven't had the pleasure of being able to test it yet. Hopefully, soon.
How does a surpass V6 lite weight compare to this? Can it beat it?
They are pretty comparable. The V6 Lite Weight showed to have more torque, but the HW V10 G4R has a little more RPMs. Long and fast tracks, I would go with the V10. for short and technical tracks, I would go with the V6.
Thank’s Bro you saved my day 🫡
I love hearing about people fixing their own machines. Thank you.
The previous iteration of this timer was a work of art, designed to LAST. The contacts were heavier, the symmetry was beautiful and it was designed to LAST, plus the heating element was a thousand watts lower than the 5400 watts of this design. This abortion was designed to fail, and the thought that went into THAT GOAL is glaring. It looks like a MORON designed it, but it is actually very clever, in a diabolical way.
That is quite the sad truth. As I work on more and more machinery, I clearly see how they are all designed to fail. It is a shame.
How about doing the R121S? Those are some torquey motors

What is the difference between the spec version and the roar? Only thing I can see is the roar uses epoxy. I csmt decide which motor to go with. My local track doesn't check for roar approved stuff as long as we are running blinky. Which motor should I chose? Thank you
ROAR and spec are pretty much the same. Most people will refer to a spec motor when that company makes certified motors. Spec just means that it meets stock racing specifications. ROAR legal means it meets ROAR specifications. Again, every ROAR legal stock motor is a "stock spec" motor. What type of racing and track are you running o ?

So I went with that but now I'm thinking this Hobbywing G4R is a stronger motor so I've been looking into them as I'm building my B7
If your track doesn't care/check, I would run an outlaw motor. Those are stock motors with thicker windings to get a ton more torque. There are a few brands that make them.
