I grew up listening to John Facenda reciting football poetry when football looked like trench warfare. This brings back so many memories.

Eagles were in better shape than the Colts at this point, but the next season saw Baltimore move up and the Eagles would struggle. Eagles, wearing sparkling, metallic green hemets in 1974, never to be seen again. I don't know if the league office told them they were too bright and unorthodox or if it was a franchise decision. Seemed much in the same vein (visibility issue) as the Saints' gold numerals, (gone after 1969) or the 1970 Raiders with those killer silver numerals on their visitors' jerseys. They were gone, not to be seen again during that era.

Prefer these Falcon uniforms over anything else they've worn since. The black and red are awesome together.

LOL The Cincinnati Cats were in good shape? LOL. ROTMFingFLMMFingAO. The only was anyone was in good shape vs the Oakland Raiders of the 70's was if they happened to be ahead and the clock showed 00:00 and the quarter 4.

John Rauch went from AFL Coach of the Year and a 33-8-1 record to lowly Buffalo due the constant meddling of Al Davis.

Buffalo HC Chuck Knox didn't make the playoffs in 1982 and tried to get the Bills demented owner Ralph Wilson to renegotiate his contract but Wilson wouldn't. Knox then took the HC job in Seattle. Knox said that he never worked with someone who meddled so much in coaching a team like Wilson did. This is likely one of the main reasons the Bills had little success in the 70s and after Knox left. Even Bill Polian was hired as the new GM because the previous GM was forced to go due to health reasons. So in Wilson's eyes, Polian came "cheap".

Cards were 8-2-1, then dropped their last three games and missed the playoffs. Ugh. The 3 straight 4-9-1 seasons before the mid 70s glory years. Good times!
