"Written and directed by Steve Sabol" Which is why all the crowd shots from the LA Coliseum from Super Bowl I the previous year, got used.

The Colts had a powerful offense. Johnny U, Lenny Moore, John Mackey, Raymond Berry, Tom Matte, Jimmy Ore were as good as anyone in the league. Throw in a devastating defense and it is amazing they did not go all the way.

The 1967 Baltimore Colts. They were the only team in NFL History that went undefeated throughout the regular season until the final game and lose that final game, and MISS the playoffs. Chances are, the Colts will be the only team in football history, to do that. Also, just to remind you, two seasons later (1969/1970) the AFL introduced Wild Card teams into the playoffs. The Wild Card teams were the second place teams in the East and West. One of those Wild Card teams won the 1970 Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs. Perhaps, the AFL learned something from what happened to the 1967 Baltimore Colts.

@@michaelleroy9281 Technically you are correct, that they had no "Wild Card" teams in the playoffs in 1969, because they simply did not use that term. But the Chief's were, as you correctly indicated, the 2nd place Western Conference team in the 1969 AFL playoffs, so they effectively were what we consider today, a "Wild Card" team.

Baase played 12 years and was on two championship teams plus the Colts team that played in the Super Bowl. Was he ever considered for the Hall of Fame?

With proper NFL geography, the Colts would have easily made the playoffs that year with the Packers, Browns & Rams. The Cowboys would have missed.

How would the Rams at 11-1-2 have missed those playoffs? Who had a better record than that team?

That’s a good point. The Colts should have been in the Eastern Conference due to geography.
