Life in La Campagne

Life in La Campagne

Ever wondered what it would be like to start a new life in France? After quitting our jobs and selling our house in the UK, my wife and I moved to France in search of a simpler life in the French countryside.

You'll discover what living in the countryside in France is really like and find out (hopefully!) that simple living is anything but boring.

Watch my 'New Lives in France' series once a month, where I chat to people who have started a new life in France to find out what they're up to and how they make a living in France.

Plus, I create slow living videos, as well as revealing my home renovation tips and tricks on a budget, from our house in the French countryside.

From slow living to beautiful French culture, follow my new life in the sun in France!

I love getting new ideas so please tell me what type of videos you'd like to see in the comments section and make sure to subscribe and click the notification bell so you never miss a video :)

New videos every Friday!

    Why are herb spirals usually so short in height? Wouldn't a tall one be more effective?

    This video was wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I have a couple of questions. Have you ever considered a frog pond at the bottom? I see that commonly on other herb spiral designs. Also, I've come across the idea of a worm tower. That's a form of vermi composting. You have a tower with small holes towards the bottom for the worms and a large hole at the top for food scraps. The worms decompose the compost and carry it out into your garden. Do you think that would work with an herb spiral? Lastly, what are your thoughts on covering the soil with natural mulch from and tree removal company (not died mulch)?

  • @LifeinLaCampagne
    @LifeinLaCampagneАй бұрын

    Yes a little pond could work, however we have another pond so wanted to keep our spiral for just edible plants. a worm tower is also a really good idea, along with adding natural mulch around the plants as that really help suppress the weeds around the edible plants. Thanks for watching

    Yes you can but adding ‘cheaper’ gravel in to the mix will bulk out the mix and hence reduce some costs.

    Yes the bird at 3:40 is a male marsh harrier (females are fully brown with cream coloured masks). Birds at 4:07 are spotted redshanks, note the longer bills (comparatively to common redshanks) and also if you had clearer views you would also see the red on the base of the lower mandible- also common redshanks don’t tend to swim much while spotted redshanks do swim pretty often. My family lives in the Charente maritime region of France. I go there a couple of times each year to stay with them. Rural birding is great in France, I have noticed that France has a much greater selection of birds in its agricultural areas compared to the UK- definitely recommend birding the agricultural areas if you have the chance, I’ve had about 100 birds in the region with a massive selection of raptors.

    what type of gravel did you use please. I have a trciel microstation as advised by SPANC due to our lakes. However, they cannot tell me exactly what gravel to set the tank and pipes on. The inpsector simply said a sand / fine gravel and even unwashed . Kindest and great video
