    Rather than guesswork, consider COSMIC, which has been shown to relatively uniformly correlate with effort and which you could even use as a framework for adding items to your backlog. I've created a somewhat fun, and somewhat polished relatively quick introduction: kzread.info/dash/bejne/enlq19Nml8i4Z6Q.html

    Appreciate Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you considered - Reyndrew Software saccular (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for getting paid using this powerful internet marketing tool minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend Sam after a lifetime of fighting got excellent success with it.

    This is some good work. But I do have a comment. Those of us in this business are fully aware that customer collaboration over contract negotiation is a key element of the Agile Manifesto -- but an analogy if you will. As a pool builder, I want you to give me a $100,000 check for the first Sprint for the pool you want. Now I don't know that I can do it in $100,000 nor do I even know what your specific requirements are and how they might change. But, let's give it a go, write me that check for $100,00, I'll cash it, and then we'll see where we are in 2 weeks. If we didn't get all the features done as promised in 2 weeks, we at your expense learned something about how fast we work and may even charge you even more for the next Sprint. WHO WOULD DO THAT? Unless Company A has 100% trust in Company B (probability <= 0%), there is no freakin way any attorney, business exec, CIO etc would EVER agree to this arrangement -- and keep their job. I think those teaching Agile concepts need to come clean and say that doing real Agile generally happens only when product owner and scrum teams work for the same company -- or --- state up front the involved companies have signed some sort of master collaboration agreement. I don't think project consulting work by the likes of Accenture, IBM Consulting, Deloitte etc were given a thought when the Manifesto was written -- maybe it's been updated, but to use the jargon of Agile, I think it should be made clear that the product owner in this case is employed by the same company as the agile team.

    Nice video. Important point about what kills projects. It might be useful to clarify about "changing teams." Agile development fits better for a reasonably stable team working on various work, rather than a varying team working on the same work, over time.

    Yeah it was was mistake to start relating back to days required, sort of defeated the original objective to distance time from points. Also, keep in mind this is agile estimation is not explicitly described in most frameworks. Estimation in scrum, is not really thing although it's used universally. This makes sense, since all the work is planned by the team in sprint to be completed to deliver the product increment, arguably how big it is kind of redundant and only really comes out of a demand from leadership teams to know how much teams can do.

    I don't 100% like the integration test example. I think an integration test should go even one level deeper: POST /login then assert 200. "h1" and "welcome" are already part of the GUI.

    Curious why we tell people not to associate points with time but in the video it says 1 pt may take a day, 3 pts about 2-3 days, 5 pts about a week and 10 pts about 2 weeks. Doesn't that encourage people to associate points with time? I have been trying to get people not to associate points with time and I like the analogies in here until points are associated with time.

    Yup, he tried to dance around it at 3:20 and then he fell down right at 3:45 when he didn't define the 1-point story properly (hint: smallest story that adds user value). 1-point is *NOT* "something pretty easy...something that would take a day"

    Why don't you write user stories describing the task? Like "As a Twitter user , I want to be able to login to be able to tweet"?

  • @AgileSamurai
    @AgileSamurai7 жыл бұрын

    Good question. I am not a fan of the As a Twitter user format because I find it's too much noise. The word "Login" has always been enough for me. I know why we need to login. And I would much rather track one or two word stories like that than all the other boiler plate. Makes it too hard to figure out what the story is and remove all the noise. But if you like that format go for it. I would rather have the conversation with my team though and drop all the extra words. Cheers
