Join me on my real life KZread journey with drones and video editing...
DRONES! DJI Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, Air 3, and Avata 2 (when I can get a spotter! 🙄) + some basic video editing - what have they all got in common? Keywords to get in the beginning of your channel description for SEO.... apparently....
If you're reading this then I've obviously sparked your curiosity, so go ahead and hit that subscribe button, and join me every couple of weeks for a stroll down DJI Boulevard - if it's our first date, I promise no funny stuff, I'll just stick to hand holding 😂
A combination of vlog / how do I? / tips and tricks / reviews and 'learn along with me' type stuff (and learn from my mistakes!), but always centred around the drone hobby.
Rather than me being the font of all knowledge, let's learn together and have a bit of a laugh along the way.
I know what I know, but I'm too old to know everything! 😉 🚁
Fly safe, fly happy, fly my pretties, fly! (Bit odd, but that's just me!)

Can you help me learn how to move the bar across the screen and show the color grading as it moves?
Duplicate your clip and put one on top of the other. Grade one of the clips. Select the top clip, and where you want the ‘wipe’ to start, set a key frame on crop on one of the crop elements in the inspector. Scroll through the clip and select where you want the wipe to end and add a crop key frame as 100% entirely cropped. That’s the basic way to do it, but I’m sure some people here might also have some tips. Check out my channel page as I have lots of links to many of the channels that I’ve learnt this stuff from (and while you’re there - well, you know.. 😉😂). Hope that helps! 🖖
@amoktimeflies I'm confused on the crop part I understand keuframes and grading
Put your ungraded clip on the timeline above the graded one. Select the ungraded clip, click on ‘Inspector’ (top right of screen), select ‘Video’ and in there you should see the second section called cropping, click on that to expand it. Using ‘crop left’ or ‘crop right’ set a key frame without making any adjustments at the time in the clip where you want the crop to start. Scroll to the point in the clip where you want the wipe to end and drag the crop line in the inspector all the way to the other side. Set a key frame there. That should do it
@@amoktimeflies hmmm I don't think I can accomplish this on capcut mobile app
So, I didn't even know there was a night mode. 😶
Ooh - yes - can’t make the drone see in the dark as you can see in my latest video, but boosts the ISO whilst controlling the resulting ‘noise’ in the picture 👍 Glad I could enlighten someone! Thanks for watching!🖖
Must be the the first and only drone he owns, it’s not that great compared to others, it near the bottom of the line
Thanks for watching!
Мне тоже этот Дрон понравился я имею в виду мини четыре
Спасибо за просмотр! 🖖
What are the odds that I would move half way across the world from Warminster 28 years ago, and happen upon your drone videos finding that you’re from Westbury!? Even the backing music reminds me of my old days in the ‘Shire. Perhaps a little bit more Oscars than Reflections though 😂 Great stuff though. Keep up the great content!
Amazing! Sometimes these weird coincidences happen! I was kindof aiming for more of a Psychic Pig vibe 😉Thanks for watching! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies Now you’re talking!! Psychic Pig in Trowbridge midweek and The Hub club in bath at the weekend were our go-to’s back in the day for alternative nightclubs. I also recall my old band playing at a pub in Trowbridge called Pee Wees. That was after we had really blown up after following our first show at the Westbury Labour Club 😆
Peewee (legend! rip 😞) started it in his pub then it kindof migrated - I think it’s was first to ‘The Warehouse’ between his place and the Kings Arms and then to Flekkies (no wait - Cascades?) although I have to say my memory of that time is rather erm… ‘hazy’ shall we say 🤣 🖖
Westbury Labour Club - Paragon?
@@amoktimeflies Yes!!
Informative and funny - the perfect combination! Subbed!
Thankyou so much - much appreciated! 🖖
Love your vlogs. They're simple, but very informative. I've recently bought a mini 4 pro, I've no previous drone experience, and I am absolutely thrilled to bits with it. It's so easy to use. I made a fantastic little video of the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland using light cut after watching one of your vlogs. 😊
One of my favourite ever comments - Thankyou so much for your kind words - they genuinely mean a lot! It's so lovely to hear that I've helped someone (even if it's showing how *not* to do something sometimes!😂). Would be great to see your creation on KZread at some point, especially as my family hails from Falkirk! All the best. Amok🖖
How do you film that if you are required to have your drone in line of sight at all times? It’s that taking your drone out of your sight?
Nope - the strobe actually gives better LOS than in the daytime! Defo worth getting one! 🖖
Great video!! what program were you using to make the edits?
Thankyou so much and thanks for watching! - Davinci Resolve - link is in the pinned comment at the top....🖖
This the government cannot replace
ermmm.. OK.... Possibly need a little more context with that one, but thanks for watching anyway 🙂🖖
Great test and interesting to see the Night mode works so well - since this year, I can't night fly (video) because of the green light goes out when video goes on :( Enjoyable video.
Hey Shaun - thanks for watching! Yeh - I just checked - I’m sure there used to be a setting in the camera menu for that… best get a strobe and stick it on the back (if the EU allow that sort of thing?) All the best! 🖖
I was up for 15 mins the other day ( Drone that was) came back down and realised i never pushed record!🤪.Looks great!👌🖖
I predict a firmware update that gives us the option to automatically record on takeoff. It still wouldn’t completely protect from MY incompetence but would go a long way to helping! Thanks for watching and the comment, Paul!🖖
great video amok i love flying my drone at night love seeing all the lights keep up the good work
Thanks RW! Will do! 🖖
night mode is a myth because digital cameras need light...it's a marketing trick
Potentially although it is meant to boost the ISO to the equivalent of 12800 and then uses a specific algorithm to control the noise. Certainly works very well when there is more ambient light, but it's not going to create 'night vision' by any means!🖖
Exactly, they are in pairs, walking their dogs. 🤣 Next video: Does the thermal camera work on an extremely dark night? Oh no, there's so much movement on there. 🤣🤣🤣
I think they must have just left their dog off the lead or something. Thanks for watching, Ian! 😂🖖
Was going to say the top of your car's not the best place to take off from. It's a shiny surface so the drones have a hard time with it. It is mentioned in the manuals. Not that any of us read them of course though! 😉
🤣Yeh - we probably wouldn't admit to it, but pretty sure you're right!. Have taken off from the top of my car plenty of times before, but only this time did I have a problem. I think it may be because its the first time I've done it since the recent updates that were meant to 'fix' the mini 4 pro RC2 compass wobble. Pretty sure it's a myth that the RC2 just has a 'sensitive compass' cos it's rock steady with the Air 3 and I use the same handset! Anyway - apologies for the rant! 😂 Thanks for watching! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies No worries at all. Rant away if you want 😉 Might help next time to use a rake-off / landing pad on the roof of the car to give the drone something to look at instead of the shiny surface. Might help.
Appreciate the advice, I have a landing pad, but very little point in using it as the vision systems don't work that well in the pitch dark anyway. Also I had the compass error even before taking off so I don't think it would have made that much difference. Normally I'd hand launch, but I had my hands full and wanted to be in and out quick so kept it simple... If you know the area then you'd know what sort of freaks are around there at that time of night! 😱😂🖖
I use a landing pad with a light so I can see it with the drone controller
The metal roof will throw the compass my autel evo took a total benny after doing that 😅
The weird thing is that I’ve taken off from my car roof loads of time before without issue. Possibly something random to do with recent updates… thanks as always for watching Johnny! 🖖
Walking the dog?? 😂😂
😬😳😂🤣🖖
Wow kinda surprised that the MP4 looks a little bit better 😃👍. Great tests and I am glad everything made it back home 🤣. 👍👏🐈⬛🐾🍻🐝
Thanks Chris - I was glad *I* made it home to be frank! Probably the most nervous I've been on a shoot - that area isn't really somewhere you want to go after dark with a bunch of expensive equipment if you know what I mean! As ever - thanks for watching! 🖖
🙀😅👍🍻
@@amoktimeflies Good job you don't have an infra red camera for all those people walking their dogs.😜
'Walking their dogs' 🤮😂🖖
It just so happens that I too have been experimenting with some night time magic. I was out till 11pm last night and up here it does not really get dark compared to you south of the border. 🤣 I've also come to the conclusion that if its around Twilight then I'll use HLG for my Mini 4 and if it gets really dark then I'll move over to the Natural colour profile. Last night I happened to bump into a Professional Drone Pilot, filming around the prom, who had a Mavic 3 with its 3/4 sensor. It made my Mini 4 look completely inadequate. 🤣😂 As for my experiments I shall be steering completely away from Night Time mode, which just makes my footage look like a waxwork and Dlog-M is just awful that its not worth even bothering. You're welcome to take a look at my handy work. 😀
Yep - have already taken a quick butchers at some of your stuff - love the Blackpool tower one! Been meaning to switch to HLG for a couple of vids based on your advice, but you know how it can be - I know what I know and venturing into what I'm not used to can be a little challenging! I'm also not that technical when it comes to videography, but perhaps I need to do more research and create a vid on it 🤔😉 All the best - and thanks for watching! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies That is kind of you to take a butchers at my Blackpool Tower stuff. As for HLG, I'm so glad that I gave it a second chance after getting my fingers burned using in on my Panasonic camera. It is a really good colour profile which play's nicely when put through the Resolve washer when editing. Side by side HLG and the Natural colour profiles look almost indistinguishable while Dlog-M looks awful and really hard to get even close to look the same. And that's after using the DJI dLog-M official LUT. No need for LUTs with HLG and Natural colour profiles.😀 I did a little experiment a couple of nights ago where I went into the garden and filmed a static scene, of some garden ornaments and solar lights, with the drone hand held. I kept the camera as still to get the most out of the bit-rate and available low light and reduce any rolling shutter or blurring. Taking five second clips of each colour profile was very instructive. I filmed Natural, HLG, DLog-m and Night Time. Out of the can HLG and Natural were the best hands down. In fact the Natural colour profile, which is an 8bit codec, had less noise and was a bit sharper than HLG. I was expecting this after learning on KZread a few years ago that a camera's colour profile, for REC 709 standard dynamic range (SDR) will usually perform better than a LOG colour profile (HDR) at night even with the high dynamic range and 10bit codec.
Information with humour. Superb 👏👏
Thankyou so much - glad you enjoyed it! 🖖
This my friend, is going to be my decider video. I am going to take your superb word. Good to see you by the way. I now have over 700 subs and a vid with over 300k views since we last spoke a few months ago and I had 12 subs
Thanks for watching Bud - 300K! 🤯 That's an amazing achievement and that's excellent growth from 12 to 700! There's plenty more to come with the Mini 4 Pro - and the Air 3 is just a BEAST that flies for what seems like an eternity even in relatively high winds! Well, when I say an 'eternity' - about 40 minutes - suffice it to say I can't remember the last time I had a low battery warning! All the best! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies hahha if I got the air 3 it would just be for special just me time because of the boundaries or go get that gvc. But yes thanks for your input too, always grateful. Ps, nice Mic, I got one in May
@@efpdronefootage I was about to say that with the Air 3 flying with Article 16 it’s not that much of a big deal, but then realised that you’re the ‘automated flight’ king! 😂 (which isn’t covered by A16 sadly) 🖖
Some very useful tips here…along with some essential information, such as needing an Operator I.D. ( which must be displayed on your drone/s ). Thanks for sharing. Andy 👍🇬🇧
Thanks Andy - yeh it was always something that I wanted to share with people as people just don't know what they don't know! Thanks for watching and the comment! 🖖
You forgot to zoom in the daytime clip as well.
They were set as a compound clip before I zoomed in so there was no need to - basically compound clips combine whatever is selected into one clip. Quite a cool feature... Thanks for watching!🖖
What a great looking beach, Tomasz, and all to yourself. 🎉
Slightly confusing comment, I suspect that was meant for someone else's video....but I'll take it all the same 😉🤣🖖

Wow! I'm a Photo retoucher by trade, an RC car enthusiast, and all round nerd interested in buying a drone. This video has convinced me to make that step! Many thanks for an epic video 👏
Hey Scotty - That's great to hear! - The mini 4 Pro and Air 3 are great for photos as well as video (I've got a long exposure photo vid coming up soon). As an RC car enthusiast, you're possibly into slightly higher adrenaline stuff, so you may also want to check out the Avata 2 - it's brilliant fun! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gKuY3MOxg8TVnKw.htmlsi=t5WuOB6zA5cVThUj All the best and thanks for watching!🖖
@@amoktimeflies I've watched so many drone videos today, and the Avata 2 is right up my street! But, I think my first toe in the water so to speak will be a DJI Mini 4 Pro. I'm sure within a few weeks I'll want the FPV experience! Then I can film my speed run RC car up close when it (hopefully) hits 95mph!

do the cut some mseconds earlier than the beat. otherwise it feels very uncomftable (I had to stop to watch your 45 sec clip) after 10 sec
Ooh crikey! - OK that's a really good tip thanks! Sorry if it upset you! 🖖
Hi Amok hope you're well. So today I had bit of free time and thought yes nice weather so give the drone its first outside flight, checked the app and what the hell, the whole of Kent area is covered with a yellow overlay, saying paragliding then goes on to say temporary and ends this weekend but I just don't know if I'm allowed to fly in a yellow zone or not and hoping you could shed some light on it as fingers crossed the weather is going to stay dry and warm for a few days all the best Steve
Hi Ste - Yeh - the weather's great isn't it! Yellow areas are purely air navigation *warnings*, so I would fly my drone, but just be extra vigilant and definitely not BVLOS flight (not that we would do that anyway right?! 😉) I'd also stay under about 50M altitude just to be on the safe side, but if you've got really good 360 degree visibility then you could go higher. If you see or hear a paraglider coming (look like that warning is for powered paragliders) - stick her in sport mode and hit the deck as quickly as possible... Hope that helps! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies Brilliant and many thanks for the quick reply. It's nice to see that your subs are really climbing well, all the best

The nightmode looks incredible for such a small sensor. I think you're probably owed a commission from DJI as this video has sold me on upgrading my Mini 2 to a 4 Pro.

I've flied over that horsey when I booked a microlight flight a few years ago while on me o'lidays.😂 As creating little KZreads is my hobby, I splashed the cash and took out a Lifetime membership to a Royalty Free music site. It was the best thing I ever did. Before doing this I would spend hours or days trying to find decent royalty free music to put in my masterpieces. I even got fed up with the KZread free stuff. I still spend hours choosing music however with a dedicated music site its a lot less faff.
Thanks for watching, and the comment Frank. Feels weird to think that someone from Blackpool would come holiday here! I am very tempted by those paid for libraries, and it would be great if one of them sponsored me! But I haven’t quite run out of music from the KZread library yet 😉 🤞🖖
@@amoktimeflies It's a very nice part of the world to visit. And a complete change from my hometown. 😇 As for an audio site, I picked one with a lifetime membership. I make very infrequent episodes so it would be a waste to pay monthly or annually. And my chosen Audio site even gave me an affiliate link. They probably thought I was an up and coming channel. But I appreciated the gesture.

I previously did the same as you when using Active track/active shots when trying to get the drone follow me on bike on a forest dirt road. I chose Auto. That was a bad choice. The drone lost me (but luckily, I had set the drone to hover rather than return to home). I failed to start recording with the drone, but I remembered to start the screen recorder. In that recording, I found that in Auto mode, it randomly choose between Hold (that I belive is the same as Parallell), Helix (probably something connected to some kind of circular motion) and Proxie (really don't know what that is). I have posted this on the DJI Forum to find out what the intention with Auto is, how it works and what the different moves do. An administrator has promised to look into it and tell me more (because she apparently didn't know either). In any case, I have found out that the best use for Auto is probably in a totally open area, and then you will probably automatically get a variety of shots that would be difficult to do without looking at the drone all the time. Are you interested in looking at my test, please check out www.youtube.com/@FinntheNorwegian-rm2vk.
Thanks - yes I completely agree - Open areas for Auto - I like the variety of shots the produce, but wouldn't use them all together for a cinematic vid - just nice to have the choice in the edit. Thanks for the link - you have some amazing views there in Norway! Jubel! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies Thank you very much. I am still learning about the different ways I may produce good footage from the drone. Tested the 360 degree Pano in strong wind. I was amazed. I got a shot that I never have expected and it can be looked at 360 degree both in Google photos and on Facebook. I found out that it not only takes a lot of shots and stitch them onto a 360 degree photo, but all the Pano pictures are stored separately as well 🙂.
@FinnGange yeh - just so many toys to play with! Have you tried the asteroid shot yet? That’s fun! 🖖
No, but I just saw an earlier video on KZread describing this. I must have missed the option earlier, but that one looks fun. I will certainly try that. I will test out the auto function in an open area and also have plans to try a sort of manual helix up and around a tower structure deep in the forest and then reveal the views above the tree tops. I have one plan to use cruise control on one or to levels and then manually rise, but I guess I will test in an open area first. I am really not in the game of testing how much I have to do to crash the drone (crashed it once at very low altitude and speed trying to get between the ropes on a swing - it crashed, probably due to a combination of obstacle avoidance on and not seeing all the ropes). I thought I ruined one of the motors, because the propellers would not turn, but I found a small grain of sand in it. Luckily I managed to get it out and no other damages happen. The drone still works perfectly.
I wish I had your scenery 🤤 😂 🖖
That automated night time landing is truly impressive!
Thanks for watching and the comment, Trevor, but full disclosure - only the daytime landing was 100% hands off - you have to give the little darling a bit of a helping hand for the last few metres in low light… 🖖
