DJI Mini 4 Pro | Create STUNNING Day/Night Footage!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Using the awesome Waypoints feature of the DJI Mini 4 Pro along with the gorgeous Night Mode, learn how to make day to night Transitions. I use Davinci Resolve to do this, but you can do it with virtually any editing package!.
Whilst it is not a legal requirement to use a strobe in the UK, I strongly recommend getting one to maintain good visual line of sight (VLOS) especially at night, but also during the day.
I got mine from Amazon : amzn.eu/d/eWWLTDW
Incredibly light weight - If you're lucky it may not even put your mini drone over the 250g mark!.
And yes, before anyone comments - I have 5 Barbecues and quite regularly leave the house with some low and slow going - but I wasn't talking about me was I?! 😉🤣

    - Link for the strobe : amzn.eu/d/eWWLTDW - In the UK it is not a legal requirement to use one (but it helps!) If it does put the drone over 250g then to fly in the A1 Open Subcategory you must have the A2 CofC qualification. See www.uavhub.com for details. - In the US It is a legal requirement to use a strobe between sunrise and sunset - see FAA rulings for details. -Davinci Resolve Editing Package available from www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/davinciresolve - Top tip from other viewers - change the opacity of the top video track for an easy way to line them up! Thankyou!

If it putts the weight over 250gr you need to fly in the A1 open subcategory, and have RID (Remote identification) activated on the drone aswell..

Which country is that Bas? Because in the UK, if it puts the weight between 250 and 500g then you have to fly in the A2 Open subcategory, unless you hold the A2 CofC qualification, in which case you can fly in the A1 Open subcategory with no intentional overflight of people. Remote ID doesn’t apply in the UK yet! 😱🖖

You can also program actions at the waypoints, it is in the waypoint itself, you can choose to do things like take photos and start and stop recording as well as adjusting the speed between individual waypoints. So you could set it to start recording at the first waypoint and stop recording at the last for example or to go and take photos at different waypoints. The Point Of Interest (POI) feature is useful too, you can set a point of interest and then set some waypoints to look at the point of interest, so the drone will go between waypoints whilst looking at the point of interest. You can do this manually by manually positioning the drone to look at it but the built in feature it could be useful for some scenarios. The reason the clips were slightly off could be to do with the positioning accuracy of the drone, positioning accuracy with GPS is only +-0.5 m, so worst case the position is a metre off between runs. It will also depend on how the drone goes between waypoints, whether it follows a route of intermediate waypoints or it just tries to get to the next waypoint in any way possible. It might be interesting to test it but with adding more waypoints in between to see if the followed route can get any more accurate.

**Journey of Light: Day to Night** With the Mini 4 Pro, let’s take flight, Waypoints set for day and night. From dawn’s embrace to dusk's delight, A seamless dance of fading light. In the morning's tender, golden rays, We map our path through nature’s maze. Each waypoint whispers where to go, Tracing the arc of sun's soft glow. As shadows stretch and twilight nears, We capture moments, calm and clear. Night Mode wakes, with magic’s touch, Transforming scenes we love so much. Day to night, a grand transition, Crafted with a precise vision. In Davinci’s realm, we weave our tale, With hues that shift, like a dream’s veil. For every glow and shadow cast, The Mini 4 Pro makes moments last. From vivid noon to starry skies, Its lens, a portal to our eyes. Through editing’s art, we bring to life, A journey void of daytime strife. The colors blend, the scenes unite, A symphony of dark and light. And though in UK skies we soar, A strobe ensures we see much more. Not just a law, but safety’s light, Guiding our craft through deepest night. So take to air, with heart and sight, Let waypoints guide your wondrous flight. From day’s bright start to night’s embrace, Discover beauty, space by space. What you can do to save time lining up the clips is to put an adjustment clip on above track then put a grid in it, move the grid around until say you have the roundabout on both a vertical line and horizontal line, as the grid will show up an all tracks below it, when you one track where you want it then disable it and align the other track. Very interesting project which has been on my to-do list for ages. And I like your way of achieving it, so I'm going to nick it. The 4 second transition really sells the project. I also have a Mini 4 and edit in Resolve. However I've stopped using Dlog M because its not a very nice profile to edit with. Its not even a Log profile either as its just a regular REC709 profile which is a bugger to match with other cameras. I have learned that the Normal and HLG profiles are much more forgiving when editing and matching with my Panasonic cameras. I basically have my drone set to HLG as it has more dynamic range to play with.

@@amoktimeflies My mate has an Osmo Pocket 3. Shooting in HLG for his Osmo allows his to match shots with his Panasonic S5m2 and my drone. DLog M is awful to grade, for me at least. HLG is a Log profile and only needs a little bit of tweaking. The colours can be a little too saturated and easily tamed in the grade. I just wish that I could change the sensitivity levels of the Zebras on my drone when filming, as once you see them then there is no wiggle room. You've blown the highlights. You have that little strobe light on the back. Have you weighed it? My mini 4 pro is pretty much right on 250g stock so I’d imagine that flashing light could put you over. I’m not criticising just pointing it out in case you didn’t know or think about it since you are in the UK too and flying over a town. You are extremely unlikely to get into any trouble with it itself but it would be one of those things they would tack onto other charges which could make things a lot worse for you if they then consider you in the higher weight category. The laws are for the most part too restrictive with little reason to be, especially to do with BVLOS but until we get better laws it is probably best to keep the number of things they can get you on to a minimum especially things like weight that could make things a lot worse for you. Great video though, I had a similar idea but haven’t had a chance to pull it off and it takes much longer to do. It is basically the same thing but at different times of year so you can get the changing of the seasons. It would require a lot of planning though, partly because of the time needed but also if you are going to that much effort you want to make sure that what you are capturing will be worth it. You don’t want to spend a year capturing video just to find it looks dull and boring in the winter. There is a series from national geographic on Disney Plus called “Europe from Above”, it is a similar idea, capturing landmarks at different times of year using a drone, it is a good example of pretty impressive drone footage. They have a China and India version too but they are only a few episodes each.

Otherwise unless you have the A2 CofC in the UK then you can fly a drone between 250g and 500g in the A1 Open Subcategory. Do you actually need to take off from the same place and same height? I thought it was based on GPS for the position? The altitude is relative so making sure you are at the same height would be important though. I’m pretty sure I have flown a waypoint mission multiple times when taking off from different locations but the same altitude and it has worked fine. As for stitching the video together, as long as you can get the takeoff altitudes close enough there shouldn’t be too much of a jump in the video. I just wish DJI would implement absolute altitude rather than just the relative altitude they use now. It would be much less restrictive and it should be easy for them to add since they already have maps and altitude data is included with most maps. The actual regulations are that you have to be less than 120 m from the closest point on the Earth’s surface but DJI just uses altitude relative to where you took off which is a pain. If I take off and fly down a hill, I need to know what height the ground is there to make sure that I don’t go above the maximum height, similarly when going up hill. An example is where I live, there are some houses on the hill and then wide open fields at the bottom of the hill, I can fly up to 120 m above me when I take off from my house but how do I know what height I can fly at over the fields? I had to fly over the fields and then descend until I was almost on the ground to find out the relative altitude of the ground down there and it is -30 m, so 30 m lower than my take off point at my house which means I can only go up to a relative height of 90 m there. With all the technology in these drones we shouldn’t need to do this, the drone should know its absolute altitude and the altitude of the ground underneath it and as I said before, this is very easy to implement, just add altitude data to the maps and GPS can tell the absolute altitude of the drone. Having proper altitude data rather than just relative altitude would make waypoint planning much easier too, then taking off from the same height wouldn’t matter at all since the drone knows what absolute altitude it is trying to get to at each waypoint, then you could take off anywhere in range and fly the exact same route. A tool to plan waypoints on your PC beforehand would be very useful too but I think they only have that for their enterprise drones.

Thankyou so much - that is really valuable feedback! Can't promise to do it 100% of the time as I'm not an expert at editing (I'm not an expert at anything! 😂), but it will definitely be a format that I will revisit frequently as I enjoy the process and enjoy sharing it with people 🙂 🖖

Why not just lower the opacity some or use multiply for the overlay video to line it up? Enjoyed overall though

Thanks! Yes - someone already suggested that and it’s a top idea! Also - adding grids to both clips and lining the grids up on each one…🖖

Literally takes it just a couple of grams over 250…. Which was the sole reason for me doing my A2 CofC - so I could still fly in A1. Mad when you consider it’s a device to make night flight safer! 🖖

I'm not allowed to fly higher than 400 feet above ground level, or buildings. I am also not allowed to fly earlier than 1/2 hour before sunrise or 1/2 hour after sunset.

Thanks for watching and the comment. 400ft/120m is the same for the UK. If you’re in the US, I know in 2022 the FAA waived the need for having to hold the part 107 for night time operations as long as appropriate anti collision lights (strobes) are equipped. Is it a regional law that prevents you from doing this? 🖖
