    Yeah you know what Apple’s stock broker forgot to do is put the tablet to sleep while it reads out loud. I don’t know about most ppl but I use my phone to listen to books or articles. One way to drain your battery is to leave the screen on while listening. So you might be thinking, ‘no problem I can listen to music, if I pay to get on a the KZread subscription I can listen to videos and still be able to close or put my device to sleep.’ Nope. Also it’s finicky sometimes it will read to you and do the things it’s programmed to but more often then not if you are like me and leave, say about 10 webpages open or aren’t prone to clearing your safari’s or whatever web browser your choosing’s memory/history you will not have a good time, with apples read aloud feature it glitches out will start reading then just stop or won’t start at all. Bottom line, you get what you pay for, or don’t. No I was not happy to shell out that sweet speechify subscription money but they make a good reliable app with options (one being you don’t even have to download the kindle app, they have it within the app) and other sweet extras like you can scan in physical books and load in files and pdfs which it converts from speech to text.

    I have KZread premium and listen to videos with screen of everyday. And to listen to books and not read at the same time I can do that with voice dream reader or speech central. With the screen off. It doesn’t work for a reason with the free built in read aloud feature because it’s an accessibility feature for blind people to navigate the ui.

    I have tried a lot of eReaders lately, and I keep coming back to my Kindle Oasis. It's just the best in every way. Or almost every way. It has 24 led's, which has been hands-down the brightest of all the devices I've tried. The buttons are "clicky" and feel satisfying to push - unlike the Kobo devices. The Oasis also has a Settings / Accessibility / Layour Size option to make everything larger, (not including the text in eBooks, of course). The other device I think might be the best is the Boox Palma, which I'm getting delivered tomorrow. That could well be the perfect companion eReader to the Oasis. I also have the latest Kindle Paperwhite, which is a nice device. One thing I did like a lot about the Kobo eReaders was the Auto-Orientation. I'd love to see that on the Oasis or PW. The one thing that may have me sending the Palma back is the non-book-ness, size-wise, of it versus the Oasis. With the Oasis - or most other eReaders, you have a format that is more book-like. We'll see how it goes. The only thing I'd change on the Oasis, is making it the same dimensions as the Kobo Libra 2. So, no bump-out in the back. I kindad like it, but I kinda like the more book-like feel of a PW or Libra 2 with a nice pleather cover.

The color display has shadows, the back makes noises, and the buttons are loud. Fonts are not clear. Darkish screen. The software is also very unresponsive. Customer service was unhelpful and only offered a replacement, not a return or refund. With these quality issues, a replacement isn’t acceptable. I will never consider purchasing from them again. I have a Kobo Libra Colour. I normally use it with about 10% brightness only ( and you need a level of brightness to use night colour, if that's something you like ). I compared it to a black and white kindle e-reader and my Kobo was darker but not as much as expected from reading online... It is darker but really not a huge deal. Sometimes i don't even use brightness if there's enough light in my room. The lower resolution is only if read a coloured book, otherwise it's 300 resolution which is crisp, so you are not really compensating compared to a black and white e-reader.

  • @svartling
    @svartling9 күн бұрын

    A black and white book still gets darker and not as clear as on a pure black and white e-reader because it has a color layer above the normal e-ink display. But I'll agree you can love with that

    Do you prefer the kobo libra or the palma?

  • @svartling

    I use them for two different scenarios so hard to say. The Palma I use more because it’s always with me in my pocket. The Libra I only use for home usage. The Palma is also better because you can install your preferred apps like Kindle, Kobo, KOReader, Storytel, BookBeat, Spotify and much more.
