This is a nice app, but for reading books I still prefer the Siri voices used in the Books app from IOS. Apple made some improvements and it very usable. It has some quirks, but the voice is very understandable while I read along.

I have no idea why these people dont use an api for one of the ai tools with great sounding voices and just pass the cost to the user

exactly, not everyone is very familiar on setting it up. i though you can just plug in an API and then you can use open ai's voices, but apparently there is cost associated with it? not really sure but yeah, hopefully they can consider just having this set up natively Edit: its actually free to use Microsoft Azure APIs. I just tried and its better sounding than iOS premium voices. Just have to set up a free azure tier, but you have to link a card when creating an account.
