what diameter and gauge is the tube used for the hand rail?
1-1/2" x 16ga.
I don’t know how he made the leave look so delicate in the thumbnail.
It's not only on the thumbnail. It looks delicate in real life too.

I recently started my blacksmithing journey, I had been watchlng videos of more traditional blacksmithing techniques and just discovered your videos on ornamental blacksmithing. You are an excellent instructor, your expanations and techniques are amazing. Thank you very much for what you have provided.
Thank you. I am hoping to get back on KZread with new videos soon. I had a challenging few years behind me. Good luck with your blacksmithing. It's an awesome trade one that is worth learning and putting a lot of time into.
Great video. I have my eye on the Art Nouveau style. Looks very complicated.
1st. I'm not having any luck finding documentation that miners worked in the dark. I guess if blind people can sword fight in the movies it's possible but I'm not finding your claim credible. Can you document it? 2nd. That's a HUGE Sticking Tommy. The originals that miners wore were 4" or less in length and made of much thinner material. I would imagine yours would be impossible to use on a hat while swinging a hammer.
1rsr: I can't "document" the information about the miners working in the dark. I heard it at the Tombstone Good Enough mine tour. I guess that's how legends and myths are born. 2nd: sticking tommies were produced in various shapes and sizes. There were small ones measuring around 3-4" and there were large ones being big as 16". The early ones were hand forged and more robust. Later they were mass produced using wire as the material. Here are 3 links with reference to sizes. www.bisbeeminingandminerals.com/miners-candleholders www.ebth.com/items/9923760-wrought-iron-sticking-tommy-candle-holders-including-one-marked-nathan-varney www.bargainjohn.com/product/miners-iron-forged-candle-holder-stamped-montana/#:~:text=Measures%2010%201%2F2%E2%80%B3%20Length,Have%20questions%20about%20this%20product%3F&text=This%20item%20can%20be%20shipped I held several original pieces in my own hand before I decided to make the ones you see I'm the video.
@@DesertOwlForge Awesome! Thanks for the link. Keep up the good work. You're living where I would if I had the choice. 🙂
Thanks, if you ever come to Tombstone, comment again and I'll meet you somewhere. I can show you around.
Very good video guite Informative thank you
Great job !! Specially part, how you made hand rail))
❤❤❤
Man what do i have to do to be able to forge with an 8 lbs hammer? And with such good control! Really impressive! I'm really a beginner but sometimes even my 1 kg hammer becomes tiring real quick
26 years of practice. I wasn't always that efficient. It took me about a year and a half of almost daily forging just to build up the necessary muscles. Just keep at it and you'll get there eventually.
are you still making youtube videos? new channel?
do you have a new channel?
I know right? It's been awhile since his last video
No. Life gave me a curved ball and I was and still am unable to make any videos. I am planning to return to it as soon as my situation gets a bit better.
Thanks for asking by the way.
very pretty but being a cast hammer, shouldn't the hole be drifted not cut?
Sorry but your comment makes no sense. What cast hammer are you talking about? Also to be able to drift you need to cut or at least have an existing hole.
How are you connecting the pickets to the horizontal rails?
I welded that in the video but there are several different methods. I'll make a video about the in the future.
Such a great job! So many care for details! So many patience.....
Wow, really appreciate the time and workmanship that went into this. You showed some great technique as well that I'm going to attempt to adapt to one of my projects. Thank you.
So now I'm going to have to build a gate! Love your work.
Отличная техника, спасибо, удачи
I enjoyed this video. Thank you very much!
What type of metal does the punch need to be made of?
Great project. You have probably made a smaller sized bending jig by now. I use large ones in the Hardie hole and the smaller ones clamped into my vice so I have both ready for different stages.
Picket fence! Nice
Excellent workmanship.
Dude! You rock! Thanks!
great, big thanks for your videos
Thanks for the tips, will utilise for some of my drawing out. Cheers

Great videos! We need to keep commenting to get your subscriber numbers up.
Thanks for the support. I hope to get back to making KZread videos soon.
Awesome video
Definitely going to make a couple of pairs. Do you have an Instagram page Sir? Thank you for sharing

Fantastic video. This will help with my upcoming [home] blacksmith projects. Thank you!
Awesome, thanks! Please share the results. You can send me pictures through my website. www.desertowlforge.com I would be happy to feature it in a future video.
Great Videos. I'm learning a lot. Thank you. Just wondering are you using an induction forge? Your area of heat is extremely accurate.
Thanks for the nice comment. I use a propane forge and for accurate heat placement I use a torch. I have an oxy-acetalyne set, but oxy-propane works just as good. I have a rosebud burner for larger pieces.
Rare to find a fellow Metal Worker that appreciates Brandt and the Moderne style of Iron Work and quite good at it.
Love the video, but you should really stop relying on autofocus on your camera. Got a headake from all the focusing in and out and out of focus video.
Unfortunately, that's the only way I can shoot these. I tried manual focus but then you move the objects around it doesn't come out right. I film alone, set up the camera, and when I bring the piece to the anvil, it gets out of focus most of the time. I can't wait and manually focus because the piece cools down.
I tried to flatten out a round piece of 3/8" rebar but as it got thinner the flattened area began curving off to the left. Is that because I never rotated the piece 180° and kept striking only one side with the hammer?
Yes. It's impossible to avoid so we have to compensate for it.

We'll be here tomorrow. Come by and say hi if you have time.
Simple and also brilliant
Hey man. You are a really good teacher.
Congratulations from the Nargesa team!!!!!
Thanks. Who are the Nargesa team?
@@DesertOwlForge We are manufacturers of industrial machinery, please feel free to visit our site www.nargesa.com and you will get to know more about us.
what the price tag on that
Used to be around $6-8K for a 6'D x 12-15'H. Depending on the design. The last time I built one was 3 years ago. Material prices doubled since then so it would be significantly more today.
nice
Thanks!
