    Quality content, man! I love that intentional touch to keep the quality of the sounds (especially drums) delicate and subdued to really let the song have a slow burn kinda feel. Kickass! And that female vocalist - Phew!! Thanks for the great content. Still debating whether to get the SP8 or spring for the bundle of the Evo16 as well for just $200 US more. Sounds like it will do the job, and like you said, the rest is up to the musicality!

    Thankyou for the review. I was planning of buying the warm audio wa-1b with Austrian audio 0c818. Do you think i should consider that or should i go for a tube microphone to pair with the warm audio as i have noticed most of the vocals chains with the tube tech compressor use tube microphone init?

    I have this and 2 gripes I have. One is BT is always on and when nothing is connected it constantly flashes that can be quite distracting. Second is the use of USB-C, not so as it's using USB-C to power but the lack of locking the USB in place or the lack of secure and tight connection to stay in place. Minor bumps can sometimes disrupt the connection and loud pops will be heard on your monitor and headphone if connected. Other than that, it is an exceptional performing monitor controller.

    88RLB is so much more dynamic and natural sounding. Always found the 73LB a lil compressed sounding, tho at times to it's benefit. The tops on the 73LB seems a tad more open due to less midrange and dynamics coming through, but the 88RLB is so much more lively and clear that I'll probably favor it 9/10 times.

    AMA Neve shit rocks. In 22, I’m broke, I have things I have to save for (every try to get a good job and buy a house without a college degree, it’s quite hard believe it or not) lol. I can’t afford to buy “real” Neve gear (shit I can’t afford to dream about it). AMS Neve’s stuff sounds amazing, I mix everything on my 8816, it’s my main console… AND I CAN AFFORD TO SLOWLY ADD MORE PARTS. 40 years ago I’d never be able to say I own a Neve. If you consider yourself above the AMS stuff, you’re either A: A doctor and have no business commenting on this sort of thing. Or B: You’re probably mixing on a $100 Reverb find mixer (nothing wrong with that if you own up to it) and pretending to know what you’re talking about, but really have no idea

    Amazing video! That is a very nice review and great sound, guys. Question: have you tried MCM 114 with an acoustic guitar microphone and singing at the same time? Would that be an issue? (like.. bad sound for capturing too much voice?) or would I get a "good enough" isolation from the voice sound? I'm afraid of this being too "broad' and getting too much of my voice and loose/omit sound from the guitar.

    absolutely impossible to discern ANYTHING about the preamps when there is an entire song playing together... im lost on the point

  • @alecbrits
    @alecbrits28 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your input. Hearing a full production switch between the pre’s gives a broader chance to hear the tone of their pre’s multiplied by the number of elements in the mix. Least that’s how I work. I find it much easier to discern which is which in that as apposed to single instruments. :) in the future I may offer stems to download, but for now, that’s the approach for me.

    Alec, I have looked everywhere on the internet to understand which is better the API 550A or the API 550B. I see the 550B has 4 bands it would appear that it would be better than 500A with 3 bands? If you had to choose one which would it be and why? I appreciate any guidance you can give me because I value your opinion. I am buying a pair of API eqs and want to be confident in my purchase.

  • @alecbrits
    @alecbrits29 күн бұрын

    Both are great! If you need two Mid band pots and no filters, then go for the 550B. :) if you want the hi/lo filter switch with one less midrange eq control then the 550A is a great shout. Both are awesome, the 550B might be a little more flexible in general. I tend to lean towards less options, that way I can focus on the music rather than the gear.

    Alec I have an Audient 4816SE. Out of curiosity I spent a few hours comparing the SSL Origin16 ($36,000) to the 4816. A few observations. Overall the specific control layout varies a fair amount, but the underlying functions are pretty similar. Overall, the Origin have some nice additional functions but it is quite a bit more expensive. The Origin does have 0 dB unity switches for all short and long faders. The Origin has an insert switch for the master bus insert. The Origin has two headphone jacks. The Origin has 70 dB gain for the mic input. The Origin used sub D 25 connectors for almost all inputs and outputs, which I do not like. Both have 2 cues, but the Origin has only 4 auxes, instead of six. The Origin does not have the linking function. Each has 4 stereo returns with almost identical controls. The studio/live room functions are comparable. The Origin has no separate trim controls for the 2 aux monitors. The are very similar in size. The EQ's are very similar. The bus compressors are very similar. Both have an internal PSU. Faders are the same size Origin has a solo clear function. Other solo functions are similar. The Origin's knobs have less play. The Origin does not have the terrific overlay that that Audient uses. The faders are similar and the same size.

    So I am wondering how the latency is on this hmm. In the user manual it says that the onboard mixer/monitor work at ultra low latency. Whatever ultra low means. It also says you don't need a small buffer size for audio recording (in the daw). This is page 16 in the manual btw. I find I always have some issues with headphones and latency when recording. Only Pro Tools hd systems seem to have solved this but I don't want to deal with Avid anymore. Curious about this as I'd like to hit the road and my Mytek 8x192 might be just a little too big to travel with.
