Quality content, man! I love that intentional touch to keep the quality of the sounds (especially drums) delicate and subdued to really let the song have a slow burn kinda feel. Kickass! And that female vocalist - Phew!! Thanks for the great content. Still debating whether to get the SP8 or spring for the bundle of the Evo16 as well for just $200 US more. Sounds like it will do the job, and like you said, the rest is up to the musicality!
Excellent song and review Alec. Definitely punching above its weight. Perfect for the home studio. Thanks!

Enjoyed your video as always, and obviously it's incredible and has unique features for the price range. At the same time, I'm always wondering why the sound processed by you is so smooth and not having any off-putting peak or spike. Could I get any tips on it? The Cabin is such a beautiful place and I like the way of recording this video, I got a impression that it's like Christian Henson btw I love that
@alecbrits
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I think the main thing for me is to not use very bright mics, and of course the fact there is no additional processing allows for the master buss to breathe and not work to hard. The bigger part is also how it’s recorded, as there is not any processing, a lot of the dynamics must come from the performance and the choice of microphone. I hope that helps!
i said it in the past but have to say it again: The taste u have my friend is outstanding, all those gears and instruments don't mean a thing without the million of decisions both, musically and technic that u make on every review. Congrats

Oh, em, GEE-sick track!!! And great review! You’re right, the Evo series just gets out of the way of the performance, and performance is always more important than gear. I wish someone like Audient or ANYONE would make an affordable simple 2 channel mic pre with SPDIF! I don't want to buy a 8 channel ADAT mic preamp box just to waste 6 of the preamps. 90% of the interfaces with expandability have ADAT and SPDIF yet NOT A SINGLE SPDIF 2 CHANNEL PREAMP can be bought outside of a $500 ART mic preamp with SPDIF. In the live world sometimes we need those 2 extra inputs and it would be wonderful if Audient would make a box that looks like the Evo4 with 2 channel SPDIF in and out on it!!

Hey Adam, thank you for all the great reviews! I have a question- I am considering to record a piano trio, the piano will be a Vsl Faziolli vst, drums will be acoustic and there will be a bass guitar. I was thinking about three possible ways to go for that - rme ucx II + adat preamp and two spdif interfaces, RME digiface usb + several adat preamps and an Evo 16 + two Evo 8. Drums recorded mostly close, with two mics on each drum - top and bottom, two on the kick, two overheads, one hihat and one or two room mics, and the bass going in two separate channels with and without and external effects. I am a little concerned on the stability of the drivers of the Evo, and the possibility of bigger latency for the vst grand piano. As for computer system - MacBook Pro with m1pro chip or Mac Pro 5.1, depending on which one is more stable. Do you have any advice? I would be extremely grateful to hear your input on that. BTW you were the last drop that convinced me to get the Neumann ndh30 and I am very happy and grateful about it! Greetings!
@alecbrits
Жыл бұрын
Hey Momchil, thanks for the comment! I have not spent much time with the RME stuff sadly, so I cannot really comment on the performance on them. For me, once I had the EVO’s setup and ready to go, it was pretty much solid. The RME’s DA conversion may be the bigger winner here, as well as the flexibility they offer with MADI etc.

Come on Audient - give us an SP32 which can piggy back with another SP32 - 64 pretty-much plug and play channels for < £2K - you would clean up in the home-and small studio arena.

Sheeeesh, super interface! :)
Sounds really good. Mostly the performance. I think the Audient ASP units sound a bit better. But they are less convenient.
@alecbrits
11 ай бұрын
The Audient units have totally different circuitry, so I would assume them to be quite different. :)
Audient are putting a lot of the big hitters to shame with their pricing. I'm not sure if many people understand this, but the reality is that there are only 1 or 2 mass manufacturers of AD converter ICs, and almost all preamps that are IC-based use exactly the same chips and circuit topology. The differences that do exist between 8 channel pres of this nature (ie, under 2 grand or so), only really exist on paper...that is to say, you'd be very hard pushed to hear any difference between them when they are operating in their optimal range. Now if Audient put their discrete mic pres in these... Great vid and song as ever. It's really interesting to see you use other musicians too!
@alecbrits
Жыл бұрын
thanks for the kind words and good insight there Stephen! I think that’s where the Audient interfaces really step into their own space. :)

😂 it’s 4mx6m. :) it’s in a cool warehouse though.
I need just a couple of extra channels for my Sphere LX mic. This will free up my Apollo Twin's two Unison pres for other inputs. I should be able to stereo link two SP8 inputs and also stereo link the two corresponding ADAT channels inside Console. This should be a match made in preamp heaven for the LX & Sphere plugin. At least that's the plan. Anyone tried the Sphere on the SP8 yet?
@alecbrits
5 ай бұрын
I’ve not tried the Sphere and SP8 yet. :)
@eyesonly4451

*_Update:_* The new SP8 has arrived and it works beautifully with the Sphere LX. On the SP8 I linked channels 3/4 and set the gain to 30 dB. On the Apollo Twin, I also linked ADAT inputs 3/4 into a stereo channel and added my plugin chain (C-VOX, Sphere, Avalon 737) directly on that channel. Magnificent! This has the side benefit of freeing up the Twin's two ($$$) Unison preamps for other use more in line with their original design intent.

Thanks for the review but there is something its not getting on my head: Since the Evo 16 its also an interface on its own, what is the advantage of buying this one instead of the EVO 16 which can do the job of both of them? Do you understand the question if you put yourself on my feet? (Obviously I know some but are not much musical hardware literate Thanks :)

Doesn't matter what the background is when you're recording your spiel. But when you were walking around and you were in spaces that were very close, the moving background was a huge distraction. Walking with a distant background would be preferred because it would not be so visually jarring. And whatever background you use should not be distracting from whoever is in the foreground.
