    It may help to make some bear mats when you are not at the cabin. Plywood fastened to the deck in front of the door and windows with a lot of long sharp nails facing up. Bears do not like to stand on these. lol.

    Ha, I don’t think we are over thinking it. Over thinking would be if we had some other folks helping us since we didn’t measure by any means and slapped them up. After the first each went up in 15 minutes or less with the uneven walls from the logs. That’s the biggest challenge. Have you ever tried to install something that needs to latch on uneven surfaces? Where every log is different from the next? That was the time consuming part. If you check out some other videos you will see we are the “do it” kind of people inspiring others not to over think it lol. We just toss things up 😉

    That is a great idea as well. We typically keep all of our tools in the cabin though and travel with minimal tools, but do have a screw driver to use by hand in most cases. So far, so good as they start to wake up and the prints are on the trails 😬

    I find that using a miter saw isnt really needed for about 80% of the build process. There great for fine wood work like trim but suck with framing. You need to move ever piece of lumber 1x more and hold it properly. Where as a skill saw you move to the lumber and can easily adjust angles as needed.

  • @Wild-and-Free-Interior-Alaska
    @Wild-and-Free-Interior-AlaskaАй бұрын

    It worked out in the end, while they aren’t perfect or identical, it kept the process moving along and still holds up well and doesn’t look that terrible. It wasn’t the initial plan, but it worked! Definitely quicker.

    You should have had the front door open outward so the bears can’t push the door in. I guess someone can keep you inside your cabin by putting the barricade brace from the outside. Just get a security gate that opens outward.

  • @Wild-and-Free-Interior-Alaska
    @Wild-and-Free-Interior-AlaskaАй бұрын

    The way our snow can blow it’s easier to have it open in, but with the concern for bears that is why we put the brace on. We don’t use it when we are there. We are also so far from other humanity no one is sneaking up on us and locking us in! It has held up wonderfully so far and no bears have been inside as the snow melted.
