Phase 19: Building Off Grid in Remote Interior Alaska: Building Loft Railings!
Finally, we had an opportunity to build our loft railings, which are made from trees on our property that we cut down while clearing the land. This process was very tedious, labor intensive, and tiring. It was well worth all of the hard work that we put in over the weekend to finally get the loft rails in place. This project turned out way better than we ever imagined and we are very happy with the results.

Thank you! We have quite a few projects lined up. Summer is short but we are going to try to balance enjoying it and completing projects!

We were a few weeks ago! We spent the weekend working on their nana and papas cabin for their upcoming visit to Alaska. We’ll share that project soon!

Nice looking railings! I guess you could add some horizontal girts to it if you're worried about kids slipping through. My neighbor family also came down with covid lately, I guess there's a new strain coming around.

Thank you! We aren’t too worried about it. Mainly to keep them from stumbling off the edge if they wake during the night and aren’t fully alert. It was definitely different then the prior 2 times, but it wasn’t more than a cold with a bit of body aches.
Could you make an extension on the side where your living room is and have 3 bedrooms in it for the kids , then you could have the loft as a bedroom for yourself and the living room as a living room , just a thought for later on x

We have definitely considered eventually expanding for potentially more privacy when we are there more long term. For now it works out with them in the loft and the separation it provides during our daily routine as needed. The loft is much warmer on really cold evenings so definitely a nice place to be!

I most definitely did! Recovered pretty quickly and quite mild systems. The congestion made me work a bit harder but overall not bad and a great place to be during it!
