Phase 18: Off Grid Living in Remote Interior Alaska: Stuck Snowmachine is an Understatement!

In this phase of our journey to our cabin, as we have mentioned several times before, coming out of the valley can be quite an issue, and this time definitely lived up to the unfortunate event that we always hoped to avoid. We were stuck with a heavy load in one place, several attempts, for 2 hours!!! This episode takes you on the journey of being stuck in the snow with us, and celebrating the fact we made it to the cabin.

We most certainly are! That’s primarily the reason we haven’t been building quite as much because we simply wanted to enjoy our cabin visits with our boys and make memories!

😂 My hubby and I were killing ourselves - I feel your pain in the moment but this is exactly how we would have been to a T! It would have been a full blown argument, we would have been calling everything a piece of s***t 😂 Many colourful words would have been said. My hubby and I always love how realistic you guys are - you show it like it is right down to the downtime and drinks you have when you get there. We would be cracking a beer right there when those sleds were buried 😂 Great video and kudos to you guys for pushing through

Thanks! Sometimes the going gets tough. Most times we just share a few curse words and frustration but hardly get angry with each other, usually just the moment but always so laughable afterwards!! It was a s**t show at the time! We usually bring drinks out and would have had one in the moment, but still had planned on not having any drinks that weekend…until that happened 😂 sometimes most of the adventure is just getting there!! Thanks for watching ❤️

Love watching your video! We live in Labrador and we get a crazy amount of snow. If ever one day you want to buy a sled that goes through any kind of snow the way to go is a super wide track Ski-doo. It also can hauled heavy loads. Snowshoes help beat the snow down around the sled also, less digging. We’ve been in all kinds of very deep snow and owned many sleds through the years. The best one we find is Ace 900.

Great advice and feedback. Thanks! We have a friend with one who helped us haul logs out and he did extremely well compared to the others. Only downside is it is so heavy so if you do get stuck it’s even more difficult to get out! Thanks for watching!

Yes, very heavy. We have a winch on ours, although we have never used it. If you don't have anything to winch it to, then of course that won't work lol

The winch is a great idea. Haven’t put one on a snowmachine, but most times there isn’t anything to winch too or the spruce are very small and weak and not close enough together to wrap a few.

I hope that you leave some boardgames at the cabin like at least their favorite ones that the whole family will enjoy or a deck of Uno cards

Just do up the hill with no sled come back down take all the heavt stuff out of the sled and go up with less than half load go back down and get more just piggy back allthe stuf up the hill.

Going up without the sleds didn’t break through the crust, which was the issue with the load. Maybe offloading half would have helped but only bringing half the dogs up may pose a challenge as far as leaving one dog at the top and one at the bottom with nothing to tie them off to at the top. Unfortunately the dogs themselves broke through the crust and would get stuck. They are approximately 170lbs without the sled and crate factored.

Do you have lots of board games, stare, or puzzles that you do at night with the boys? What board games do you play with them? Anything that’s fun do you play Uno Uno is really cheap and it’s small and easy to carry.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ film, playing board games there with the boys and making precious memories. Have fun for me playing really fun board games there.

We have several! Playing the games together has been featured in some of our videos! They enjoy Pictionary, cherades, telestration, go fish, uno, a US States board game and so many others! They also have coloring books, picture and chapter books, dry erase boards, paper/pencils.

When one sled gets stuck , disconnect both sleds and break a trail with both of them not just one

We considered that but did tandem up eventually. I don’t think the weight of them on their own would have been enough to break through the crust. Eden if it was one after the other because when we did on snowmachine it didn’t break through like the heavy sleds did.
