In my opinion, if you think a rule is flawed or just bad, it should just never be enforced, if we can collectively agree that the rule is dumb, there shouldn't be any support for the rule ever being enforced, because it's giving PGL a reason to think that their ruleset wasn't the issue, when it was.

If you've actually listened to what Synderen said, this rule might have been placed because they're avoiding the fact that players can get screwed by being replaced midway. If anything, OG is getting the karma from what they did with Era back when they were still Fnatic. The rule that got placed because of them bit them back.

As someone who doesn't like Ceb, PGL not making an exception for him is just a bad move. Child birth isn't just a "special occasion", it's quite literally a life or death situation where complications can arise that put both the mother and child's lives at risk. It's also a process that can also take way longer than people think.

It's not like he's the one giving birth or the medical person doing the procedure. Of course any dad want to be there in the hospital but it's not as a matter of life or death as you're framing it. The best that PGL can do is fix the rules or stick to the rules for now since if they break it, they will also be criticized. Damn if you do, damn if you don't.

The easy fix to protecting players from being unfairly kicked and replaced is that substitutions aren't restricted, but that every player on the original roster needs to OK the sub.

7.36c is very underwhelming, and it is part of a trend. I'm genuinely concerned about this sort of half-baked approach to balancing the game. It's not just awful for Immortal matchmaking. The lower you go the bigger the standard deviation and so the bigger the outliers.

What trend? Are we going to ignore the gigantic changes made to the game in the past two years, pick out some small patches then call them the "trend"? I'm in the top 5% percentile rank and I can give 0 shite about these small changes. Vast majority of players just don't care and rightfully so, they just play for the fun of it and adapt to changes if needed, except for maybe the top 0.5% players. I'm personally just happy to get new events and big changes as long as the balancing is not way out of whack. And even if it is, it would be changed soon anyway.

To be fair, sometimes companies will not wait for damning evidence to separate from a partner with an issue. I just feel like twitch settling a civil case that never became criminal is pretty clear evidence that it was twitch that made the mistake.

I haven't studied the case so I only know what everyone knows and to me it seems like at the time they backed him they weren't risking anything because the reason was unknown. Suddenly someone credible enough to cause headlines pops up with a hearsay tweet stating that the reason is potentially criminal. Now the company is risking a lot more if they back him up. So it's easier to just cut ties even though they don't actually have more evidence than before. A tweet is just a rumor.

I feel like it would be good to arrange for stand-ins before a tournament, give a list maximum 1 stand-in per position of players you want to stand-in, that way you can have more stand-ins without picking and choosing.

It's absolutely insane that PGL don't allow teams to register substitution players. I can think of no competitive team sport that doesn't allow teams to have secondary or even third pick players to play when first team players are unable to make a match due to injury or whatever the reason is. It is the simplest solution to the problem that PGL themselves have created and I just don't understand why they don't implement it.

The problem with Dota teams is that it used to be a complete wild west with rosters. Teams will just randomly drop and add players whenever they felt like it. Valve and PGL got really strict over subs because teams would just register with a five player roster then on the day show up with one or two new guys as "subs" then after the tournament they announce that those subs are now officially part of the team. It was a mess and some players get unceremoniously kicked right before major tournaments. These days, random stacks of five players are rare and this is less of a problem now, but the rules were there for a reason.

Oh, there's also the issue of teams just disbanding right after losing the qualifiers for a tournament then two or three of them sign up as "subs" for the qualified teams to participate anyway. For what it's worth, I disagree with this strictness. Teams should be allowed to register with one exclusive sub player and additional one sub/coach role. But this does lead to the issue of successful teams with more resources being more able to compete than the less successful teams. There is a tradeoff for things.
