This Barcelonas Channel provides insights into Barcelona for Visitors and Residents through videos of my journeys throughout Barcelona city and province. Some of the videos are stand alone ideas but most are designed as illustrations for articles on the website, so if you really want to know more make sure you visit the relevant link.

The story is a bit different. es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manzana_de_la_discordia_(Barcelona)
I love my team
Nice thank you sir
You should have shown all the 10-12 escalators just going from the orange to the red line hahaha
Gaudi did have plans for how the Passion facade would look, unfortunately they were destroyed in a fire by anarchists. That is why someone else had to take the job, not to ape the style directly, but to try and add to it while respecting Gaudi's vision, which could only be assumed.
They are not gunshot marks, that was Franco's excuse during his time in power; execution of Republican troublemakers. Rather it was a bomb dropped by Mussolini's Air Force on the 30th January 1938. 42 people were killed, hiding in the basement of the church, tragically including 20 children from the nearby school. There is a plaque in the square in remembrance to those people's deaths, obviously slipped your notice Simon. The story you heard was Franco attempting to seem less connected to the murder of children in the country he was trying to win over. If you look up high, the shrapnel marks rise to about 20 feet, those Fascists weren't that bad shots were they? :)
Visca Sant Andreu de Palomar,el meu poble!
I was there 5 or 6 years ago. Its am amazing place.
Beautiful!
I can feel the history in the stones. I would love to visit. I am very much a history appreciation buff.
If you do visit, Candace, get in touch ... I give Guided Walking Tours and try to tell some of Barcelona's untold stories!
Great video. Dont think I was aware of all of this in Barcelona
The barcelonas.com website launches at the end of January, Peter, and the idea is let visitors in on little known aspects of this great city!
Speakers arn't working but looks beautiful.
Brilliant - not sure it should be the final episode - maybe more a hint as to where you may take us next Simon. Loved the whole series.
Thanks, Paul! No it doesn't really round off the series, does it? However, my intention for the WABAS12 project was just to get started with video so although nowhere near as polished as yours, I think I can safely say Mission Accomplished. I think I'll continue doing the walkabout videos because when you're filming and improvising the commentary some interesting observations come out. I also intend to do more of the photo-based reviews and finally, I'd like to marry the two styles into something that is more of a product in a similar way to your Speaking of Spain series. Hatching ideas, at the moment! I'd actually be up for another WABAS12 in a few months time ... great for motivation!
beautiful even with the gum...
Nice overall end to the series Simon - hang on...there's still one left to go! What will that be about?
Looking forward to visiting next March ...
Your personal tour guide will be at your disposal, Lisa! ;-)
Brilliant Simon. I remember visiting this plaza way back in the early 1980's and standing shocked looking at those walls. Someone said that a bomb had been dropped there - never did pursue the story. But amazing that it hasn't been patched up by one govt or another over the decades
Fabulous, I am loving this virtual tour of Barcelona, makes me want to go even more!
Your enthusiasm is infectious Simon...I love these walk abouts.
Love it! #wabas12
As someone who actually works there selling Natural Christmas Trees, its a big pleasure to always have foreign customers during all those 25 days. Yet we opened on November 30th, but the next year we will on November 28th. Its a hard work for us, but a big satisfaction to see everyone be happy on these dates, This is exactly where i'm facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152029982775409&set=a.10150233219185409.357052.734560408&type=1&theater Merry Xmas!
Brilliant, Aitor! .... Gràcies per respondre. Et buscaré quan compri l'arbre de nadal l'any que ve!
Barcelonas Molt bé! :D Estem just davant de l'Hotel Colón, la nostra parada es fa molt visible. Just ahir vam acabar i estem derrotats del cansament de tants dies ja.. Bon Nadal!
get your skates on in Barcelona - #wabas12
Disappointing! I wanted to see some really wobbly footage of you on the rink Simon. Still, I do love Plaça de Catalunya - and was great to see it in the November sunlight.
Agree re the voice thing. Excellent tone for narration
I love this video Simon, really interesting and you have a great voice for narrating
Learning so much more by watching these videos than sitting and reading about it ...
Thanks, Lisa ... the WABAS12 thing has helped me define the direction I need to take. History and tours are my passion and I think I was a bit confused by the property/residence angle as a result of my work with Graham ... let's go with passion and do properties as a nice sideline! Mutually compatible! :-)
Barcelonas Is very true. Getting around also gets you to see props in good areas
Graham Hunt And visiting properties in different areas helps me understand the city even better ... and also see it through different windows!!!
Love it. Miss the wobbles though.
Amazing
Great post, Simon!
Excellent and informative Simon. Love Guadi's stuff. Didn't he make it into the Guiness book of records as the first ever tram victim too? Do you think they will include a passing reference to that anywhere on one of the facades?
Loved this Simon. Looking forward to seeing it again and learning even more!
Great architecture. I feel as I have had the notification!
Awe come on Simon - lets go back to the jostling camera and the street walks :)
Don't worry, Paul ... plenty more of that to come! Just wanted to try out different things and see what could be done with photos!
Stunning architecture presented with passion
Brilliant Simon - more discord please...what an amazing street. Noted down for future visit.
Excellent Simon. Reminds me of the roof tops of sevilla where I lived back in 94. Like you we would shout across to neighbours. Everyone in the block had a section with their own shed on the roof too. Great communal spaces. Wacky idea of an expo on the ground though - where does that orginate from then?
I don't know if you know Barcelona, Paul, but it's a distinctly wacky place ... one of the reasons I love it so much actually ... I'll have to show you round one day. You'll find interesting pieces of art in the strangest places and everything is very approachable so something like this Pessebre doesn't strike me as odd but now you mention it ....
Don't know it as well as I'd like to Simon. I lived in Tarragona back in 96 for just a few months and went looking for work in Barcelona. Couldnt find any so moved to toledo. Stupid idea that turned out to be. Will take you up on that tour one day.
Added to www.ThisIsSpain.info he says with Slade ringing in my head!
Haha. I saw these too! There is the German chancellor Angela Merkel among them as well. Very funny.
Great into to a really attractive barrrio. Makes we want to visit - loved the personal touch at the end about what you missed..More please of that...
Thanks, Paul ... Sant Andreu's a brilliant place where pretty much whoever you are, you get accepted as an andreuenc ... and if you think Catalan separatism is strange, we regularly demonstrate to separate from Barcelona! Mad!
Fab Simon! You can hear the passion in your voice for this area. Party in Bar Versailles in March it is then ;-)
Did you manage to film any video in the Bar Versailles? Looks really nice
Plenty of opportunities in the future! Very good mates with one of the barmen, actually!
Brilliant Simon, I look forward to the rest in the #wabas12 series.
Love the focus on defecation
Great Simon - felt like I was strolling alone beside you.
Love it Simon!
Reminded me of a little lad when I was in a nativity play 50 years ago
