In 2004 there were 110 trains a day at the triple tracks in Fullerton, CA...not as much anymore.

i seen people comment on why 4014 has a diesel helper i watched a video and the diesel has a ptc on it that big boy dont have positive train control it let them know where there at so theres no head on crash with another train its law ever train has to have one there working on getting one for big boy so it dont have to have a diesel helper

Always liked this engine. First saw her in action in 1995 and 1996 (when I was 4 and 5 years old, respectively) during her stint at Steamtown. Really hope she comes east again someday.

Of all the steam engines I’ve chased around the country, chasing the 844 running 70mph in the Columbia River Gorge back in 2010 is still my favorite. Chasing the 3985 pulling the circus train in Colorado that same year is a close second.

I ran on this Kearney Subdivision and the Marysville Subdivision from 1978 to 2019 and saw lots of changes, from hand lining to and from center sidings to triple track on the Kearney Sub and single track with sidings to double track on the Marysville Sub. Mid to late 90’s saw so much traffic on these tracks that some days you would only make it 20-30 miles out of your home terminal before you used up your Hours of Service, and then you still had to van up to your Away From Home or Home Terminal. Made for some long days and nights.

Challangers were sold to the D&H Railroad in the 40s to haul coal trains to New York from the coal mines of NE PA.
