Gary Eats

Gary Eats

Let's give it a go!

Hi, I'm Gary. I used to work in the Gastropub industry and enjoy going to lots of different pubs/restaurants and trying out their food. Come and join me on my adventure around the UK and beyond.

Please send me some of your best (or worst) recommendations so I can travel down and give you my review.

I'm always available at [email protected] if you wish to contact me or send me any recommendations.

Thank you for this warning! I can't help but notice a theme here: expensive restaurants often appear overpriced.

I went to this pub last year, and it instantly became my favourite. The atmosphere and feel of the place is amazing. Beautiful pub.

Maybe the meat cooking and cuts are a deliberat ploy. As you said most people would not eat.

thanks for the review. I had never heard of this place so thanks for informing it existed and also thanks for informing its massively over priced and poor quality. I dont mind paying high prices for meals but if someone wants £100 for a buffet its got to be slick on all aspects.

In my experience a typical London City customer at a bar or restaurant is someone that works nearby at a job that pays a lot of money. I don't think it's surprising, therefore, that the buffet was overpriced because the hotel knows it can charge a high price. Typical customers are most likely wealthy, or they're using their expense account. For what it's worth, my advice is avoid areas of central London if you can't find an open coffee shop, or Boots the chemist, on a Saturday or Sunday because these areas are used mainly by business people.

I had the buffet when it was 50quid. I can't say is worth it then as the food was "OK" they do have oyster and lobster but the quantity was low and you have to wait for it. Other food were pretty average. I go to the Ned a lot for drinks especially before covid (almost weekly and I don't even work near there) but I was very disappointed with this. I even needed to know someone who lives with someone who works there just to make a reservation as it was that busy.

@@GaryEats in that case Gary, I would suggest you put "a great meal" instead of shocking, unless you think they're the same thing in meaning? "Yesterday I got a shocking haircut that was great" 🤣

I'd want a quiet, relaxing atmosphere for that sort of money! Way too loud (and too expensive), and the food didn't sound anywhere near good enough. I wouldn't pay that much personally. AUD $230! I can get a REALLY good five-star meal here for much less than half of that. Thanks for braving it for us!

I'd agree 3 out of 10. Overpriced London. The Ned. Its for tourists Gary. And the area of Bank is notorious for it, full of financial people in suits.

Last time I was in the UK I, along with some relatives, went to an 'all-you-can-eat' Chinese restaurant in Calverton, Nottingham. The name of this restaurant is the 'Springwater'. Every time I visit the UK I visit this restaurant at least a couple of times. Last time was two years ago and the price, if memory serves me right, was twenty one pounds a head. The price will have almost certainly gone up since then. The food was excellent and extremely good value for money. I'm getting on in years now so I don't know if I will be able to get back to England again any time. If I do, I will certainly be visiting the 'Springwater' again.
