I passed my test on a ZZR 1100. Got the 14 about 2 years ago and when I finally let her loose I understood the hype. I can tell you I invented some new and interesting swear words that evening. Went round Ireland on it. Worth remapping too. Awesome bike.

It's lovely to hear the excitement in your voice. I remember my first ride when I went 125 to 650 and I thought it would rip my arms off. Then the first time I opened the throttle on the 1290 it was the same. Sheer rush. Nothing beats being on 2 wheels 😊

Now I have been riding bikes for 50 years, and I've lived in Germany since 1976. Now here we have the unrestricted Autobahn so I have ridden and owned big bikes. But I prefer the 600cc bikes, because I avoid the autobahn like the plague, and I stick to mountain and country roads. And there the lighter 600's come into their own.

I also bought a zzr 1400, and when you ride it for the first time, the feeling is mixed between fear and joy. You don't know what it's capable of and whether you'll be able to master the monster. But after a few kilometers, the beast is actually quite easy to tame.

I spent years on several scooters before "graduating" to my first real bike, and I think scooters give valuable experience in a low-powered vehicle for those "whiskey throttle" situations but also things like reading and dealing with traffic, all the while without worrying about the clutch. After eventually going through successively bigger bikes, I did arrive at a true liter bike; in my opinion they're quite dangerous to ride because they turn small mistakes into huge accidents.

Get used to using the rear brake it's great fun and don't go higher than 4th gear unless your on big long straights..and yes just relax on it till you get used to the power its an awesome piece of kit .and whats great.. up in Scotland we have the best bike roads In Britain...on the downside it eats back tyres and its a big heavy beast to push..

while doing my DAS i asked my instructors if they thought it would be a good idea to step up to an A2 first when i passed, and they basically surprised me by saying i should buy what i wanted, and that it's all about how you use the right hand. while i wouldn't dream of getting a fireblade or a busa, i did buy a bike with a fair bit of poke, but nothing as big as 1400, and my initial worry faded away in minutes when i found it was so easy to ride, if you don't get carried away that is. @@YoureGettingaWhati bought a cb750 hornet, loving it so far, so nimble and easy, but a small worry was that a few reviewers alluded to a snatchy throttle on it too, and all i can say is that to a point yes, it can be when you first ride it, but it's no worse than a 125, or even the 650 bikes i did my DAS on, but if you treat it gently it's no problem at low speed in traffic, and you get used to anything soon enough anyway. Passed my test on a hired 125, took it back with pass certificate and test drove a Ducati 900 SS. "Are you sure, sir? If you bend it, you bought it" I didn't and I didn't. Bought a Bimota YB5 based on the Yamaha FJ1200 engine instead. Most people thought I was insane and wouldn't last a month. But hey, I took some advanced riding courses, did some track days and learnt how to ride the thing rather than hang onto it and hope. You definitely need to get some advanced training, keep learning and you'll be good. Otherwise you won't get the full benefit from that machine or it will just surprise you and kill you. Enjoy.

  • @noahknight4039

Even with advanced courses he shouldn’t try to get the full benefits on the street. These bikes are mainly status symbols on the street. You cruise with a high power bike and once in a blue moon when no one’s around and there’s an open straight road, you let it rip for a few seconds. He mainly just needs to get comfortable with the throttle. He really doesn’t need to learn to drag knee or leaning as far as possible on turns. Not when riding on public streets. Throttle control is all he really needs. Also people need to stop the death talk. The main reason for motorcycle fatalities isn’t super bikes. It’s intersections, cars turning left and lane splitting. He’s more likely to get hit from behind, sitting at a light than whisky throttling into oblivion. How about telling him to be safe and ride smart and not you will lose your life brah, if you don’t heed my warning.

@@noahknight4039 yeah, but that's kind of the point of advanced training. It's not about going as fast as possilbe and getting your knee down, it's about roadcraft and the appropriate application of speed. The track, however, is where you can give it the beans without risking other people's safety and minimising the risks to your own. Hence my recommendation.
