    That, ladies and gentle, is why he is the strongest man who ever lived. His longevity in the sport is freakish. To be at the top or near the top since the late 90's is something the world has never seen and probably won't see again.

    Ultima893 Fair enough, but Mariusz was fast and strong, rather than having the static strength of Savickas. Mariusz would be dominated by the guys of today, so therefore can't be the strongest of all time.

  • @markatkinson13

    @markatkinson13

    Ultima893 Don't get me wrong, I love Mariusz and followed him through all of his wins. Although he has the most WSM titles, he is not a better strongman than Zydrunas. Check out the most recent times that they went head to head in 2009 and 2004 WSM. Big Z has won WSM 4 times; the Arnold 7 times, Fortissimus x2; Strong Man Champion league x2, the IFSA world championships x2, the log lift championships x4 and probably some other things that I have forgotten. Lets then throw in the multitude of world records Big Z holds. Mariusz was fast, agile and an amazing champion-the Dominator's run from the late 90's to mid-2000's was phenomenal but Zydrunas has moved the sport on. Also, do not forget that he was competing against Mariusz in the 90's yet Mariusz retired in 2009 whilst Zydrunas is still winning titles in 2014. To be competing at elite level for nearly 20 years is something the world may never see again. Paul Anderson was a mutant in his time but was, in essence a weight lifter and power lifter. The things he did in his day were incredible, but the strength world has moved on significantly since the 1950's. Louis Cyr was around in the 1800's and again, in his time was no doubt a freak of nature but to say that he is stronger than Big Z is a little unrealistic. He is said to have picked up heavy rocks and supported platforms with over dozen people on it amongst other feats of strength but it would be unfair to compare him to a modern elite strong man.

  • @DoNultima

    @DoNultima

    You make a fair argument Mark, but bear in mind that Mariusz Pudzianowski retired WAY too early, at age 31. Most strongmen won't reach their peak until around age 35.. I believe if Mariusz Pudzianowski continued with Strongman he'd only get stronger and stronger for each year in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 so by 2014 I believe he would significantly improve his deadlift ( ~ 20-30kg ), squat ( ~ 20-30kg) and bench press (~15-20kg) with those numbers he could easily surpass Big Z and I believe he would win AT LEAST 1 or 2 more times in this period giving him 6 or 7 WSM titles and Big Z only 2 or 3. Pudzianowski also has a plethora of WSM records as well. I respect Big Z, but prefer Mariusz Pudzianowski any day of the week, Pudz would always beat out Big Z back in the day, shame he got a calf injury that hindered his 6th World's strongest man title back in '09

  • @markatkinson13

    @markatkinson13

    Ultima893 Fair enough, we will agree to disagree. As I said in my previous comment, I loved Mariusz in his competitive days and always rooted for him but when I look at the two athletes objectively I have to back Big Z. I think even if Mariusz added 20 kg to the major lifts, he still would not beat Zydrunas. Remember, Mariusz has got a recorded max deadlift of 415kg whereas Big Z has pulled 440 kg. Big Z has squatted around 430 kg compared to Mariusz's 380 kg. Strongman does not really involve the bench, but rather shoulders and again Mariusz can't come anywhere near Big Z on the log, axle or giant dumbbell. It was a shame that Mariusz retired at such a young age but in addition the calf tear, he also had a serious biceps injury that he had to undergo surgery for. I think, in his heart the Dominator knew that he could not train and compete as well as he once did. Good debate.

    swimbeyonder Well, firstly, the record is 461 kg, done at Leeds in Aug 14 (I was lucky enough to be there) and secondly, he does one rep here at 430. I think Savickas max in competition is 442kg. He is a great deadlifter, but not the best, that's Magnusson

    Imagine this dude walks up to you in the gym and he tells you he needs your plates. It would be a good time for an intra-workout meal or maybe a bit of cardio around the block. Of course, I am sure he would bring back the plates eventually. Savickas is the sort of dude to clean up after himself, after all. If he would not put the plates back, someone else would have to spend looong minutes unloading the bar. That in itself is a workout.

    @SteingrimTMNF 430kg comes from: 20kg bar, 7x 25kg 1x 20kg 1x 10g (per side). You can see the outer plate is a few mm thinner than other plates. Thats hammer strength plates, they make 25 and 20kg plates same height but the latter one is a bit thinner in width. You can see that in the video if you know what to look for.

    @fatgordon you have to know,that this deadlift is done on a regular gym/IPF standard bar.Benny and bolton used WPC/WPO bar which bends more and is longer than the IPF bar.

  • @GordonHeaney
    @GordonHeaney12 жыл бұрын

    @Henzzman Are you sure? I have a powerlifting bar that is supposed to take more than the standard olympic bar (around 320kg), but it's the same length (7ft) as the standard bar I have - the main difference I notice is that the powerlifting bar is definitely thicker than the standard olympic bar - presumable to take more weight. I thought it bent more cos it had so much weight on it!

  • @Henzzman
    @Henzzman12 жыл бұрын

    @fatgordon well there is a whole sort of bars being sold at gym shops,but competition bars are only IPF and WPC/WPO standard.The olympic bar doesnt play roll in the deadlift,because its not used at the competitions for deadlift.And yeah any bar bends because of the weight,but because WPC/WPO bars are longer they bend more at the same weight than the IPF bar.Thats where the difference comes in the deadlift.

  • @kooroshrostami27
    @kooroshrostami274 жыл бұрын

    This is a very difficult 430 kilo lift because the plates are quite small 25kg plates extremly close to the floor, even closer than Olympic plates which makes this an extremly impressive lift even though it is only 430kg.

    I know how strongman is a bit more multiplanar and practical in how strength is applied,not to say that squatting,pressing,and deadlifting movements aren't recruitment patterns we use on a daily basis,and as exercise physiology and methods like Westside weren't really common in the States back then,I'd agree with your second statement also.The fact still remains that Zydrunas is pulling and pressing significantly more than Kaz ever could,and benching isn't typically a strongman event.

    I think this is 430kg as well but who knows except the big man and the people who were there. Would love to see what his one rep max is and can he hold onto it without straps ? Love big Z don't get me wrong (how many world records ...........) but his grip has always appeared his achillies heal (sorry about the spelling.) Love watching heavy deadlifts. I have to wear straps once i am over 160kg's as i broke my hand a few times playing rugby and right hand just goes ! Take it easy Cheers.

    @jonathankaitazoff Meant to type Bennie, not Bennue! And 235 kg deadlift is NOT weak, that's pretty damn good!

    He looks good, and he actually looks like he’s lost weight! Great lift from a champion

    I ask you again, how do you know this is at the end of his workout and not what I believe to be a one rep max

    The lift in 1983 powerlifting exhibition in south Africa was 903.9lb (410kg) I think. But didn't he use straps? I would really like to know.
