    I think Zydrunas could’ve had a massive bench press if he peaked for one. His personal best overhead push press is stated to be 260kg/573lbs. Wish we could’ve seen Big Z, Eddie, and Thor do a powerlifting meet at their peak. I know Thor’s coach at one point was encouraging him to break the all-time record. He would’ve been tied for 3rd all time if he hit all his attempts after a 6 week prep. With a 6 month prep he could’ve shattered it

    Big Z only being able to bench 260 is BS in my opinion... ive seen the guy overhead press 228 strict. On his day I wouldn't put it past him to push close to 300 knowing his push strength and competitive nature

  • @StrengthUniverse

    @StrengthUniverse

    2 жыл бұрын

    Just because he has incredible overhead strength does mean he is going to have a 300kg bench. The best he ever achieved in competition with a Bench shirt was 265kg and by his own admission the shirt adds 20kg so that puts him at 245kg at best without. as per the video his personal best without a shirt is 3 x 250kg touch and go rep. In competition he would have to do a paused rep which would knock around 5% off his best 1 rep max and he would be fatigued from the max squat before it. Guys that can bench a raw 300kg in competition need to be able to do 5 reps with 275kg, Big Z was not close to that.

    I think Z could squat atleast 470 in a meet, bench 290 and deadlift 420. That would be 1180 kg wrapped total. Definitely anything from 1160 to 1210 would be my guess. Like if he did go the Huge route(not that he wasn't, he might've crept beyond 430 lbs bw, then perhaps 1235 kg 3 lift total in time, being smart and dedicated like Donnie Thompson? 1250? Might be a form in which a 520 squat, 430 deadlift, 325 bench could happen(1275 kg) . Grip wise, He had considerably more in the tank, he has healthy hands, but maximum squeeze in comp demands thorough balance of endurance and conditioning, and with performance in comp not being linear to SMens perceuved Max. Grip level, even pros just accept that a 5 event day is not for them, and that their grip is "bad" . Volume is king. Strongmen come from regular jobs with hand weaknessess, which can be fixed. Feeling pain and training "for blood" is worse than admitting your fingers cannot take it and start training with the right goal, and accept that a sustainable training effort and level of pain, over time will make you stong enough, finger strength to forearm equality, overhead even. . But as large weight spectacle events buried heavy farmers, it was over for hand training for Z(he was older alrdy, I know) , he skated the line of sufficient grip to win his 2010 career onwards. By the build you can tell a hand's conditioning, and all Strongmen have thick palms, thumb bases, but finger tendon strength and similiar vary Wildly, guys tending to fail later in comp don't have the fist rigidity that Loz has, those have the frailest fingers(bear with ne) and nobody has hands that make me go holy shit, that guy is spiderman, every strongman, except for some, Loz, Brian, etc. etc. Are solid and Mike Burke to me king. Undertrained fingers are a thing, stretching and static pressure with light activity brings more volume, than going "hard and heavy". grip and effort related mental barriers are a thing too, as everybody plays to their perceived strengths, and weaknessess might be swept inder the rug, in the name of grind. You have to bring it up if neglected, even if it might not seem in the cards- your impression is probably weighing too heavy on you. SM have diminishing ability to crimp with maximum power> hand conditioning, your grip cannot open due to pain, bar fatigue of muscle or buckle because you are not rigid enough, in Theory, ok guys.🙉 Z had endurance isssues because he didn't tax his hands fully to the fingertips. Surely a man almost 6'4" with hands at, or just over 8", can get efficient enough to hold and pull 440 on a perfect day, Benni pulled easy 460, like 380, because his hands(I believe fingers) are longer. I suspect Z never quite figured out, that he had more power over this vulnerability. volume is key, he had strength, for limited time, then fell into oblivion mid comp. He didn't get as far as many, neither did Hafthor, until the very end. They both have good crush and grip potential, size notwithstanding. Grip and back strength are the most universal in humans and except hard work, or size, almost all have common baseline performance, the rest is just training history and motorpathways. I think we are far away off what's possible, even today. In His prime, he should atleast equal Hafthor in PL, imo. I can't see a healthy Z below 470, 280, 410(420 on a good day, under 400 lbs in SM like form we're used to seeing) .
