I always lock out, granted, I've only done five plates on the leg press for my sets, so maybe it's only an issue when you get real heavy, but I've never had an issue. No knee pain, no backwards bending. Just don't ego lift, go down all the way, and you'll be fine

On form alone, Dorian hands down wins.

Ruhl's bench form was fucking absurd. I'm not even sure if it's appropriate to call that a bench press because it looks more like a guillotine barbell fly, and to do that with close to 5 plates is inhuman.

Nice. I've been a big fan of Marcus for years. Timing is everything with how far a bodybuilder can progress in his placings. Dorian came up at the right time as Haney's reign was closing. Marcus had to deal with Jay, Ronnie, Nasser and others when he was coming up. The competition was deeper for him, IMO. Great video of two amazing competitors! 👍

you're in denial, Dorian's competition throughout the 90s was steeper than what Marcus had to deal with. Every single name except for Jay saw their primes during the 90s. When was Nasser at his best? 1996 and 1997 when he was placing in the top 3. Not afterwards. When was Shawn Ray at his best? 94 and 96. When was Levrone at his best? around '95. Flex? 93. These same people were placing top 2 and 3 during Ronnie's era as well, but they weren't in their primes anymore, except for Cutler whose first Olympia was in '99 and Yates was already retired.

Markus Ruhl's bench press form is very scary. It almost looks like a Guillotine Press when you come right under the chin instead of lowering the weight lower to your ribcage. I cant believe he never tore his pecs.

Steeper angle=more force Dorian win I would also argue that skipping the bottom part of a military press makes it dramaticly more easy. So does a smithmachine. Also Ruhls inclined bench is more of a normal bench when you lift your ass off like that.

First of all with a Smith machine as you said you’re not doing that true weight that’s on the bar because of the counterbalance! But I also think more important is the fact that you do not have to your self balance the load as you move it ,it (which may be bad) has a predetermined bar path prior to you even attempt the movement! And I enjoy listening to your post not only for the history and comparisons, but your accent is cool dude💪

I've been training for almost 4 decades and speak to many of the athletes so saying I'm "lying or just had no clue" is just plan disrespectful. Here is the original video. You can clearly see 3 x blue (20kg each) and 3 x yellow (15kg each) per side plus the weight of the bar. Please feel free to count the plates yourself: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YqqbzKOEn72ud8Y.html

Full range of motion with on leg press with 1500 is way way harder than the short range of motion with 2094 as well. I have seen Ruls use close to rull range of motion and 1100 pound was challenging for him. You can't compare lifts with completely different ranges of motion. A lot of these lifts are just wrong.

His legs were strong, but he actually wasn't that strong for his size. It's pretty obvious when you watch him working out. I mean it's pretty obvious Marcus couldn't bench that 463 without a spotter and lifting his body off the bench. Is he really strong? Well obviously yet, but just not super strong like a Ronnie Coleman. There are other guys stronger, many.
