ZOOM H5 - A modern portable 4 track recorder? It’s that and more!

Музыка

With a all new design and interchangeable mic capsules, AND 2 built in XLR/TRS combination inputs, the ZOOM H5 is very well equipped modern portable recorder. Capable of running large diaphragm condenser microphones via 48v phantom power from the batter supply and the selection of microphone capsules available makes the a ideal location recording device. Up to 96k 24bit recording or MP3 format, onboard limiter and compressor and the ability to double up as a basic USB audio interface makes the ZOOH H5 as serious bit of kit.

I use this to record my band outside in the forest (were a Black Metal band) we're doing a test-purpose demo to see if we function as a band, and then releasing a single or EP to see if people actually like us. then we're making an album before the tour so we go on with an album to our name so we can sellvit on the tour. I am doing the same with my Death Metal band

Sad that she played Prince and no idea that he would pass away just about a year after this was posted :( I am buying one of these units by the way. I do have the H4N. Going to use both. Thank you for the sampling of the Zoom H5.

Curious, did you time-shift the close-mics to line up with the ZOOM mics in your mix? I'm hearing some odd phasing/delay effects that may be cleaned up that way, unless that's just the room reflections.

Jim Dunne Hi, there are a lot of reflections in the room going on in there for sure but that's also kind of the idea, to record in a non ideal environment, like many people do to give you a idea of what you could expect from the unit/setup. Hope that makes sense?

If you're going to (for example only) release the song that you've recorded, would you use the AKG 414s only, or the one mixed with H5's mics? I'm just trying to get some idea for my own recordings. Thanks!

ZOOM H5 good for videographers, but H4n Pro better for musicians because has much better multitrack recording control. Hard wired mike not a problem, because if you don't like the built-in mike, you'll probably want to use your own plug-in mikes anyway, not one of the capsules from Zoom. H5 starts up much faster, good for videographers but not essential for musicians who sit down for a session. H4n Pro also has many really useful built-in effects for voice and guitars, although your music editing software probably has plenty too. But the effects, such as reverb and delay, are nice to hear in real time as you sing, especially if you use the H4n Pro as a mike, either analog or digital via USB into a computer. And if you are patient and don't need detailed editing, you can use the H4n Pro to produce a very decent arrangement wherever you are without a computer.

Zoom H5 has line level in, H4N Pro has not. For this reason alone I find H5 better for studio use.

I was just wondering, why doesn't Andertons sell G&L guitars? I mean I already have one, and I don't live in the UK, but I feel like these guitars are so awesome-sounding, they should have been stocked by now... REVIEW THEM PLEASEEEEEE!

Can the H5 record "2+ one stereo track(s) " SEPARATELY to the SD and simultaneously to a DAW, w/o any of the H5 effects, ie clean? Thank you.

I just recently purchased a zoom h5 and had to send it back because one of the xlr inputs didn't work. I got it replaced with a new and now they both don't work. What am I doing wrong? Is it a certain setting or menu? I press the channel 1 or 2 and I make sure gain is set correctly but no sound. I know its not the cords either. Please help! Thanks ( w/ Rode NTG4+)

How do I reduce the “hiss” I hear when I playback with earphones connected to the headphone jack? What would a good setting be for podcast voice, no music?

  • @greenspringvalley

You shouldn't hear a hiss. I can't imagine. It's crystal clear. If you're usin your own mic maybe a powered mic causing volume overload or a cheap cord... Is it a house noise like your heater fan?

I just bought the stereo shotgun mic for my H5. Does it require a setting change from the XY mic that comes with it?

  • 8 жыл бұрын

No the Zoom is doing automatically the job! I would know if the stereo shotgun Mic is good because I think buying it before a pair of xlr condenser microphone for music recording.

I'm very interested by this because I'm recording a lot of music show and for the ambiance sound, it could be cool because I'm plugin in the input 1/2 our Midas Venice 320 so I can't use the shotgun mic that we have and I find useless buying the XLR/TRS adapter that goes on the top.

I finally did some recording of me playing my 12 string guitar. It was about 5 feet, 1.5 meters away and worked fine. The recording quality was as perfect as I could ask for, very clean. I'd have liked just a bit more volume out of it. But I'm sure playing with the settings and becoming more accustom to it will sort that out. Couldn't be happier

Paul 'Stick' Annis Hi Stick. Firstly I'd like to say I enjoy your videos. Secondly, can you please tell me what size the thread is on the H5. Would a 3/8 inch female to 1/4 inch male thread adapter be suitable for attaching it to a mic stand? I realise they sell the MA2 mic clip adapter, but it seems expensive considering what you get and very few places seem to sell them. I'd rather buy something from somewhere I already have an account. Lastly (sorry for all the questions) do you know if there is a UK power adapter available? Google hasn't been much help on this one.

+napalmhardcore you probably found your answers but just incase - it's a standard tripod adapter like every camera, use any mini usb cable plugged into your iPhone charger no point buying one and great zoom isn't providing something we all already own, I've got about 20
