    I just bought an H5 and can't wait to begin using it! This device appears to have a LOT of built-in functionality, but I also look forward to what I can do when processing the recorded audio. So far, everything sounds AWESOME! Nice product, even if it is a few years old! Great video too!

    I appreciate your review on the H5. I have all of the Zoom digital recording devices, including the H6n. I use the H6n to record my music playing. The H5 will be my "go to" field ENG recorder. The unit does a good job capturing audio and it gives the user many recording options. I agree with most of your comments. There are some "cons" on this unit. Why ship a micro SD card with adapter, just include a SD without the adapter? Where is the cover for the top of the unit when not using the XY mics? That area is left exposed, and can get damaged or soiled. The plastic storage case is made to be stored with the XY mics, otherwise it rolls loose inside. With a protective contact cap the plastic storage case would be a lot smaller and easier to store in a pack back. Thank again for your review.

    Greetings Max, letting you know that i bought the H5 after watching a few reviews about the H5 (including yours) and im sure i made the right choice. Sry, i didnt use your link to buy it. I considered going for the H4N but the H5 had the integrated compressor/limiter option - so that made up my mind + i love the automatic -12db backup recording that the H5 does. Thanks for a good review, now that i got the audiogear needed im thinking about using it for my youtube channel as well. Thumbs up and subscribed!

Have you done a field test and could you recommend some limiter and roll off settings?..or do I need to just experiment trackside and see what works the best? As I will do anyway, but this is all new to me..LOL Cheers Gtregg

The hiss is even louder when the gain is turned up....are there any settings on the h5 to subtract this “hiss during silence” or am I setting up incorrectly that is causing the hiss?

    Can you tell me if the H5 works as an audio interface in 24 bit as well, as the H4n Pro sadly only works in 16 bit? Also, the menu on the H4n Pro is quite laggy (kind of a bummer), especially compared with every cheap tascam recorder out there - but the H5 looks a little snappier from the videos I've seen... So is it any better? Thx

    Questions,1.) is there any real notable difference between the zoom H5 and zoom H6 in terms of pure audio quality and 2.) What would you recommend I get with the zoom H5/H6 for voice overs that would be pretty cheap or do you think just using the on-board mics they have would work (Maybe upgrade to the shotgun attachment?)

  • @MaksimYuryev

    @MaksimYuryev

    9 жыл бұрын

    Hi Clientech. The audio quality is identical the H6 has more features. For voice overs i'd say go for the H6 as it already comes with this capsule amzn.to/1NYtRSg and that's what I would use. I would also suggest one of these bhpho.to/19pEuOs to maximize the audio quality.

  • @ClientechMediaGroup

    I was thinking of going with the H6 because of the capsule but upon hearing some tests it sounds like its more for recording ambient noise. I think pairing the Zoom H5 with a Rode NTG-1 would be a much better idea.

    I have been using the Zoom H2n.While recording quality is exceptional, the overall mfg quality is cheesy. Example, the plastic tripod thread mount stripped in the first week. Can't hand hold it to to excessive hand transfer noise. I would need to buy a separate shock mount. So now my question regarding the H5... its primary use will be for hand held interviews. How is the sound transfer to the unit? Are there any solutions so as to isolate external sound transfer? It appears that H6 may suffer from this as well. I am liking the H5's form factor.

  • @abrowne1950

    @abrowne1950

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Phillip Conroy The problem still exists. I complained to ZOOM 2 years ago and they told me that if I did nit like the plastic thread, I would need to upgrade to the H4n. Not a good answer. ZOOM is aware of the problem yet they refuse to fix it. THE THREADS WILL STRIP. The fix is up to you. If you are so inclined, some how remove the plastic sleeve and replace it with a metal sleeve. How you do it is up to you. With that said, I love my H5.

  • @abrowne1950

    +Phillip Conroy I looked at H4n but when compared to the H5 it was no contest. H5 boots faster has newer and better electronics and does a better job isolating hand sounds. My mayn use of the mic is hand held interview recording in the field. The H5 blows away the H4n.

    It's in the multi-track mode only. Record your first track and go to the folder where your recording is (Menu -> Project -> ZOOM0XX) press enter and scroll to Mixer/Overdub and select Mixer/overdub again. You will return to the recording screen and select the track you want to record by pressing L-R-1-2. If you want to hear the first recorded track while recording, just click on the button assigned to it and it will light up green.

    The Zoom H5 should be perfectly fine for that. If you want to record really quiet thing, such as natural ambiances, then you might get some hiss, but if you want to record voice, as long as you set your levels right, you won't get hiss 👍 Bear in mind that this applies to all recording devices. If you set the levels too low, you get hiss. If you set them too high, you get distortion.

    Litlle (stupid) problem with Zoom H5 - when i pluggin a external phantompower microphone at Input 1, i can ONLY record that in put on Track 1. When i want to record somethin on Track 2, i have to plugg out the mic from Input 1 and plugg it into Input 2! Plus - on the L/R tracks, i can ONLY record the input of these XY-microphones. So its not useable for me as real 4-mono-track multitrack recorder where i could record Input 1 on ANY of the tracks. The input-to-tracks-routing is very unflexible and i dont know why it has to be that way.

    I have. I purchased instead the Zoom R8 and it works perfect for eazy multritrack recording. Zoom H5 is good for Video-Recordings or Life-Recordings, but not so good as multitrack-recorder.

    I'm looking for something to record college lectures within the classroom. The plan is to sit at the front of the class to get as close to the instructor as possible. do you think this h5 is a good fit?
