I bought two of this tanks on sale and till this day I had never have a problem, personally for me they have done their job to perfection, the details you actually mention on this video are on my personal opinion just little to none existent, I have leopard geckos and I have never had a problem with humidity or any other problem that you mention before, I do respect your opinion and thanks you for sharing your thoughts that can actually help people in the reptile hobby

Moral of the story: do not piss of this guy or he might do a whole 20 minutes video in which he explains why you suck. And he will probably feed you to Simba

I appreciate that you address each issue separately. It is more thorough and better comparison. Listing off positives is also great! It's amazing what companies will let go without thinking. Have people who work with and/ or rescue the animals these are meant for and get perspective. 🌻💙

Also tanks like this, you see at big name petstores is that they put big reptiles in small cages. You might get a 30 gallon but they will show a picture of a bearded dragon on it. It's horrible because even if I know its wrong, others don't!

i have a 25 gallon zoo med for my young ball python and i have all of the same problems! gosh the top bending down and blocking the door from closing has been such a pain. i'm looking forward to when i can upgrade her to a different enclosure once she is older.

Thank you so much for your reply. I truly enjoy your videos! Hope you don’t mind me asking questions. I live in Northern Minnesota. In the summer it can get very humid. How do I keep the humidity at a healthy level. I did try small socks made into rice bags, and that did help some. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Thank you so much! I'm not the only one with these issues! I got mine second hand without the background, but the doors don't latch very well and they both creak very loudly. ZooMed did make an insert for the cable slots that lessens the gaps, but it's at least as open as the front door gaps

I have a thrive tank that I really like! It's a 40 gallon for my corn snake. However, my UTH is peeling off the bottom and it's from Zoo Med, not happy about that!

I have the zoo med tank for my ball python and I have the same complaints with the doors and the background. I also live in Maine and in the winter its really hard to get the humidity right.

What do you think about thrive 40 gallon tank??

I got the 25 gallon one & it came with some plastic thing to cover the wire holes but they aren't attached & they fall off so I used a double sided tape to keep them from falling off.

Mine was barely taped on the corners. Did you get your tank from a discount place? If you bought your tank from a more reputable place, it would probably be in better condition. I have the same exact one except a 40 gallon and mine has none of those issues.

I just got one of theses and im super confused by the four little clips that came loose in it with no explanation of what they are for

I’ve got a Thrive 40 gallon front opening tank and am super happy with it! Not as much as Zoo Med or Exo Terra. I have my jouvie beardie in it. I also have a Thrive 20 long for my KSB. I love your videos and how you are helping these amazing animals. Beardies are my favorite and I love Mongo!!

room temp is about 78-80f

honestly, I have exo terra tanks and the same issue with the top dipping down and stopping the doors from closing happens too.

I agree with these points here. We had the 25 gallon Zoo Med front opening tank and we actually loved it because a lot of the things you touch on weren't an issue with the smaller tank but when it was time to move our beardie from the 25 to a 40 and got the 40, we realized these issues you addressed. For the top holes there are 4 little clip things that come with the tanks and you can put those in there to fill the slots.

If they are just a picky eater, then try bee pollen. But if you haven't already tried a variety of foods then see a vet. Also idk if babies go into brumation? That's something to look into. Not sure if the tank is to cold

Double check your uvb bulb too. If you have a coil, change to a tube (lime reptisun 10.0) as the uvb might be technically strong enough, but not covering enough of the tank.

Mine stopped eating when she was young because her basking temperatures were actually way too high. So make sure they aren’t too high either

Just bought this for 50% yesterday and wish I saw this video, but thanks for pointing out the flaws! I'm using this tank for my hermit crabs. I think for the center doors I'm gonna apply a rubber piece just behind the opening. It will only be attached to one door so that way I'd maybe open the left first before opening the right. That may hold in more humidity. I also usually put a thin blanket/towel on the top of the cage in order to keep humidity in. Thanks to your point outs though I may be able to fix them myself and upgrade it a bit. I would not have noticed those errors right away. THANK YOU.

I appreciate you see a idea in just making tank work for you. 2 car door bump prevent strips have adhesive. Will close tank. .. if you got yank for 50% off you gpt a good deal.

4 years ago I could only find the Exo Terra, even though 1 of the doors broke off (my solution was drill a hole at the top and place a nail as the top hinge covered in tape to stay still, literally has still worked like a charm for 1.5 years now) SO glad I made the right choice!

ya dont get it, you can see peoples comments on this video who have it for snakes, same issues!

im planning on using a 40 gallon zoo med for my mice since i have a larger group now and need an upgrade. right now i have my 3 original girls in a 20 gallon tank and my 2 new ones in quarantine since they are sick and on meds but soon they will all live together and need more space. im hoping that they dont break anything now that im seeing this.

Looks like Mr Freeze likes to live on the edge

I bought one of these last week and there was too much factory sealant on the inside, and there was excess sealant even on the top where the top vent wouldn’t even close right. And there were NO Instructions for what things are, and on the outside packaging, there is NO INFO ON WHATS ON THE INSIDE.

ExoTerra and Zilla have always been my go-to for smaller tanks like this. Carolina Custom Cages' in-stock tanks are amazing for larger ones.

agreed, when I go big I prefer PVC to glass.

I had looked at both of these brands of tanks. But I decided to go with Zen habitats for my beerdie. Great review now if buy one for another reptile I go with exo terra. Jackson said HI to Mr. Freeze.

The gap is basically wide enough that small cricket can get out. This enclosure look like a demonstration thing for the look only. The flimsy top part if you put a snake in even just for the quarantine period. It really do look like a counterfeit cheap version of the real thing

For your avicluria (maleficent), current thinking is that they require ventilation far more than humidity, you should definitely get that tape off the top of the tank and just make sure she has constant access to a large waterbowl, if your tank is sweating she has nowhere near enough ventilation. Not having a go at you, a lot of people keep them that way because it used to be the general recomendation, it just turned out that people were worrying about the wrong things and it killed a lot of avics.

thanks for this video. i was just about to go with this brand for my kingsnake's new setup. but ill go Exo Terra instead.

I have a much smaller zoo med that I got at a screaming deal for my mourning geckos. I filled all the gaps on the top with hot glue and by stuffing bits of masking (tape that I folded in on itself) down by the tabs. The top doesn’t sag because it’s small, but I was really worried about the gaps around the door. No escapes yet, so I guess we’re okay. If I hadn’t been able to get this tank for so cheap, I definitely would have gone exo terra.

I hope they added that door gap because almost all of them have an issue where the doors don't fit forcing you to close both doors at once. The cheapest plastic. Get yourself an exo-terra or a carolina custom cages. They make the best that I've seen. Great video man. People NEED this info. Some of us have wasted money on shitty terrariums.

Nice review!! I have 7 exoterra’s and 1zoomed.. from a distance zoomed is ok and that’s where it ends .. Exoterra all the way on tanks.. I do live in uk tho so my snakes and lizards are mainly in wooden vivariums as they hold heat better..

That’s why I put aluminum tape over the whole top of my enclosure I thought I was getting a good enclosure but I regret it even with the top covered it’s still hard to hold humidity

I totally agree!

At least with the ExoTerra you can remove any of the foam backgrounds they have included and make your own. I have geckos but I'm not a fan of the gaps in the exoterra foam backgrounds.

I couldn't wait to click on this vid.....I have the exact same tank!!! and it does suck...it really does...it's nothing like the exo terra I have for Bella, my Uro.... And YOU ARE RIGHT i have had a lot of these problems.... I literally have to lift the black thing up just to close the door!! And I have to sit there (sometimes) I give a few crickets to Oobi (my beardie) just to make sure some of them don't escape because they can get out...trust me!! the way my tank is set up the crickets can easily hop up on the branch and get out of the small holes...and taking that background off really is glued....it took forever to get it off without ripping it and even longer to get all the stuff off the glass....this is a TERRIBLE TANK ....lol he's totally right you guys...I bought one...and it sucks.....so we're just going to build him a custom made enclosure....oh yeah...HEY MR. FREEEEEEZZZEEEEEEE!!!!

I have one. Honestly not that bad.

With the background they were probably thinking you would take it out like I did and tape it to the outside. It’s just double sided tape on mine. And it doesn’t matter if it tears the back side you won’t see that. It only took off the top thin layer of paper when I took the tape off. I could have left it on but I removed it so it wouldn’t collect dust. I’m sure they put it on the inside when selling so it wouldn’t get damaged. The rest of the issues I can’t account for but the paper part was no problem at all for me and that seems to be the part that pissed you off them most. I’m using it for a leopard gecko so I don’t really care about the holes in the top screen and mine came with clips to cover the cord holes in the back. Nothing will be able to reach up there in my tank. I wouldn’t use it for a baby corn for example if I didn’t have those clips because it might be able to get out. But for my Leo, it will be fine for the deal I got it for. If you can find them on sale they’re great. Mine was on sale for $79.99 (Petco 1/2 off) and another $15 off for President’s Day. For $64.99 it is an amazing deal and I can deal with a top screen that’s a little loose. I keep a tougher metal screen on top anyway to keep the cats out. It’s not going anywhere. But it would be nice if the glass met perfectly in the middle.

Keep an eye on the hinges of those doors. A few months ago the right door on my tank just shattered and fell right out because of the poor design. It not only scared us but our beardie, Koa almost had a heart attack. I won't buy another one.

I understand that you are upset, but you can simply take it back to the store and swap it out for a new one. I know when I bought mine from Petco I did notice that my door was not aligned. I still had the receipt and took it back they gave me a new one. No issue with the doors happy beardie mom. The 40-gallon tank that I have is just temp until I relocate, and then I will upgrade to a 120-gallon.

I quite like the Zilla tanks also. I will say that they’re quality control isn’t as good as exo-terra so things aren’y as precisely put together but the cages themselves are very good. I would reocmmend buying one in person so you can inspect it but I have one of their bow fronts and a extra small one and they have some really really nice features with the lids.

@@SupernovaBetty The company changed ownership, or a New CEO a few years ago, can't remember which, maybe both! But since then there products, have become better, and the new cages are really nice, and I believe less expensive than exo-terra!

Welp. I already bought my 50 gallon tank from them. Hopefully they’ve bettered the quality since this video was posted. I don’t think all of this would be an issue entirely for my girl as she’s mainly free roam unless for night time or when I’m not around to watch her.

The Background is not intended to use as background. It’s packaging….Like when you buy a frame and a photo of another family… there. You don’t keep it… lol… Packaging… Exo Terra… Background about $100 or more. Worth it. No free backgrounds… Boo 😢 I got the zoo med 25 gallon… petco $84.99. Background packaging. I simply pulled it off… put it on the outside… till I can afford to buy a nice one.. like Exo terra.

I commented somewhere that the door feel off an exoterra tank when it was indeed a zoo med and it's only 7 months old. The hinges are cheap plastic as is the top. Soooo angry after spending 200 on it black Friday. Trash enclosure! The background i peeled off with a straight razor and put on the outside though the design on it is boring.

So, basically what you're saying is, they need better quality control standards? Lol. I'm in between an exo terra and zilla, but I can't find ANY comprehensive reviews or info on the specs of the zilla. All I know is they have a split screen on the top and it comes with plastic cover inserts to increase retention of humidity, which will be important for a tropical set up

This is one of those times where I feel like the quality control was never done by someone who would actually use it for the intended purpose. They just did some generic "good enough" style testing and sold it. Happens all the time in many industries. My family has a running joke for things like this. "This was obviously designed by someone who never actually tried to use it."

Yes, you shouldn't have to think about modifying these sort of things to make them a safe environment. I was thinking you could stick something down the inside of the centre of the glass doors on one side to cover the gap when closed. But then you'd have to open one door if you wanted to open the other, and the same thing to close it.
