Zoo Antwerpen (B) on a winter day (15/01/24) - zoovenirs (56)
On 15/01/24 , it was snowing in the area that l'm living, about 11 kms North of Antwerpen. I wanted to visit the zoo in the snow for a long time already, but never had the chance. So l hurried to catch the train, only to find out there was no snow in Antwerpen.
l started my walk anyway and along the way, a snow shower turned up. So these are the photos and clips that l was able to get.
Most of the animals were inside, but to my surprise, young elephant bull Assam stayed out even during the snow shower.

Hi! Great images of the snow. I love snow too, but over here we also get ice, which can be dangerous.

Hi, Emily! Thank you for your comment! 😀👍 Over here, it's an instant traffic chaos, even with only a couple of cms = an inch of snow. I expected that, so that's why l tried to get ahead of it. Afterwards, during the night, it snowed again and more, which made morning traffic a disaster. Even for the railway line that l'm using, because it goes all the way into southern Belgium and there it always snows much more than in Flanders. It's higher up of sea level with hills and valleys. Problems there result in delays of the trains everywhere. That's why l didn't go back to the zoo the next day to get better footage showing an actual layer of snow. But at least l got a bit while l was having my walk there. 😉😅 Only the main roads get cleared with salt here in my area. Everywhere else, the snow is partially melted by traffic and people walking. When it freezes overnight, then there's a lot of danger to slip.

Thank you and thank you for your comment, Traci. 😃👍 At the right time, at the right spot and with the right angle... 😉 After the snow shower was gone, l ended my tour at the lions' enclosure, as l usually do. Only papa Nestor and mama Tasa were out, hiding under the rock and sleeping with their back towards the public, so nothing interesting to take a photo of. While l started walking towards the exit, the sun came through a bit and l turned around... 😃👍 I didn't have much snow on record, because the surfaces were too wet to keep it on. The snow almost melted immediately. I had to hurry to show some white! See last photo. 😉😅

Hey, Laura! Dankjewel voor je reactie. 😀👍 Ik was bij de olifanten toen jij bij de leeuwen was, denk ik, te oordelen naar de sneeuwvlaag toen. Moest wel lukken dat jij daar ook was. Ik denk zelfs dat we samen achteraf in het centraal station waren. Mijn trein vertrok om 13.38 u op perron 22.
