Hm. You know, I never thought about it before, but this spell raises an interesting side topic. "You know whether each creature succeeds or fails on its saving throw." Most other spells do not have this line. There are no hidden rules in 5e. So, for example. Charm Person does not have this stipulation. Which means, if I cast Charm Person on you, and you pass your save, *I don't know* that you aren't charmed. I can only judge based on your actions. Ohhhh, someone's gonna get a knife in their back.

..... Huh. That's true, actually. I didn't know, RAW, you don't know whether or not a target fails a save against a DC. Kinda interesting that's the case.

i can't believe it's almost over. i joined some time in the middle because youtube recommended it to me, and damn, this is a useful series when you're looking for ways to use spells or if you're just wondering what to pick or ... thank you so much for making this series, you have opened my eyes to many possibilities and brought many laughs to my face, and presumably to that of my DM, to whom i sent several of these videos. good luck with whatever you do next

About the riddle puzzle, ZOT kinda makes it unsolvable. To solve the puzzle, you're supposed to decide which teller is which, but if you cast ZOT, both tellers become truth tellers, unless the DM decides that the spell makes the lie teller instead use vague, non-committal speech instead of straight up switching to truth-telling. Forcing the lie teller to tell the truth doesn't force a clue/tell in this case. In the base form of the puzzle, nothing is compelling the lie teller to tell lies so forcing it to switch to truths just does that.

The great task is complete!!!! Stoked to see what you've done with the +3 homebrew. Now to give Zone of Truth the attention it deserves. Alright, so great utility in dealing with social or investigative challenges. Just enough wiggle room so players still need to think through how to ask their questions. The fact that this spell has been opened up from just Clerics and Paladins(3.5) to all Bards, several subclasses, and even a backgrounds and some feats means that it is very accessible to nearly every party. No Concentration 10 minute duration is quite good and feels appropiate for the 2nd level slot. World building this can and should be used anywhere civilization has sprung up and grown enough to support casters of the appropiate level. Even in lower magic settings this should still be seen somewhat as 2nd level spells would still be around. Uncommon perhaps, but still heard of. 7/10 - not the most useful in pure dungeon crawls but it's value only sky rockets the more social interactions and investigations the party must complete.

This would be great for weddings. Both parties bring a cleric or three to cast this spell and a third neutral to check on both parties. You should cover PERMANCY spell from the PHB 1st edition for goo measure.

It's just 2nd level. There are judical priests in every court of law, just itching to cast this. 3:00 The riddle has to be described by a third party (such as a sign) anyway. Otherwise, either the describer is telling the truth (thus you know who is telling the truth), or the person that supposedly always lies just described it, so you can't trust it. 4:30 It's something like: Magic can't discern whether you are telling the truth or lying. Other than the Rogues, sure, the target can evade. So what you do is ask Yes/No questions, where refusal to answer will be considered whichever is worse for the person. But mainly, it isn't going to be used on the accused (unless you are also torturing them to make them talk in general). It is going to be used on the accusers.

So, you say the door is 8ft 3in. As in the grading section you reach approximately one half of the way up the door, and the camera only shows you from the waist up, I am assuming you are 2/3 the height of the door. 8ft 3in is 99in, 2/3rds of that is 66in, or 5ft 6in. On the shorter end for men but not as bad as I had initially thought. Additionally: wtf how high are your ceilings, my house is only 8ft from carpet to ceiling and I presume you have some clearance above your massive closet door.

I have 2 things seen happen with this spell: 1 it did nothing, since it was a murder mistery, and the murderer was a rakshasa, thus it lied its ass off. 2 the dm nerfed this spell on the spot, making it a save per question, and no repeating the questions, because if you ask something like: "are you hiding information that can assist us in our investigation case of missing person, answer only yes or no" you can quite definitively say if someone is innocent or not.

I wonder how modify memory interacts. World building wise if it fools the spells as the person "believes" the modified memory to be true it would definitely be used on "spies" set them up to be captured and feed an enemy false intelligence. Would need to expand a remove curse on every one you do this curse to just to be sure and you still have to worry about the exceptions listed in the video.

"Lie detectors are still used on occasion" Only for theatrics. Everyone who is in a position where they would want to use a lie detector is fully aware that they're actually garbage at genuinely detecting lies, and only pull them out to trick people into confessing

I disagree, the rogue’s mastermind feature would prevent the zone from compelling them to tell the truth but that’s not what the zone does, it prevents them from telling lies so if they fail the save and they are about to tell a lie then they can’t speak. Now it would have to know whether you’re lying right, well Crawford said that “A ring of mind shielding and a zone of truth have no effect on each other.” So in that case zone of truth would work on a mastermind rogue.
