This criminal behavioral expert gives believable facts of the case.

This is interesting because it parallels the Jack the Ripper Case. They are two of the world's most notorious serial killers and both, to this day, are unsolved. Both killed 5 (according to the "official" count). Both allegedly wrote letters to the police/newspapers. Both had a relatively short time in terms of their killing sprees and both more or less disappeared after the murders albeit the Zodiac kept up with communications. Maybe they both achieved what they wanted: to be talked about for decades-even centuries.

I like her comments on the "structured lifestyle" he was living. Working during the week, hunting people on weekends. It seems that he would be a loner, unappreciated at his career, and perhaps unrecognizable in society. Maybe he wanted a sense of power, to feel that he could control one aspect of himself by affecting others in a way that demonstrated his superiority. He probably did not have a wife or children, or if he did, they were distant from him or didnt appreciate him.

Zodiac got up close and personal. It takes a "very very rare" person to look someone in the eyes and kill. They see the fear and pain in their face, the sweat on their brow, the desperate cries for help, mercy, for their Mother or God and then the blood spurting from the wounds.

Spent a lot of time to build up the courage to ask for dates but was often rejected in his teenage years. Gets embarrassed or slighted easily.

Stabbing the fuck out of someone makes you very much a sicko killer. Whatever that usually is in serial killers, severely fucked up sexuality, inadequacy, etc. to me is the principle motive in this guy as well. All the other crap, the ciphers, communication, etc. is like the ego compensating for the feelings of inadequacy and inferiority and maybe sort of just capitalizing on some additional fun he could have now that he was willing to murder people. You don't stab the fuck out of two people multiple times based on any other motivation than the killing itself, certainly not the motivation to become famous. People who don't have a sick need to kill couldn't stab two innocent people, and someone who isn't enjoying it wouldn't do it multiple times.

@@susanshaffer5824 I think it was more the Berryessa sketch that spooked him. If you notice how little he mentions Berryessa but Stine he sends parts of the shirt and talks about it openly. "the people in the north bay area" is really his only mention of Berryessa.

The Zodiac was nothing more than a bitter loner. The reason why (with the exception of Paul Stein's murder) pursued those three different couples, had a lot do with him being jealous of seeing other people in love. This guy probably had issues with the opposite sex. Watching couples engaging in affection probably put him over the edge. He probably wasn't popular with the ladies and couldn't have a meaningful relationship with a woman. This would explained why the female victims were stabbed and shot numerous times in regards to the male victims . In addition, he was also a narcissist whom loved the attention he was getting from the media.

Did Zodiac kill on weekends because he had a weekday job, or because that was the best time to find romantic couples out on dates? What about the spelling mistakes in the Zodiac letters? Some say the misspellings were deliberate to make him seem less educated. But Zodiac wanted to be known as extremely intelligent, a criminal genius, always boosting his own ego. What if the misspellings were because Zodiac was dyslexic? Dyslexia contributed to him being an outcast -- laughed at in school, unsuccessful with girls.

The misspellings were deliberate bad jokes. The intention perhaps being to annoy the reader, like a splinter but for the eyes.

This whole case scares me and yet I find the mystery fascinating. I've see the movie a few times and watch a lot of videos on theory's, people on the case, suspects. I certainly don't have the insight or the knowledge, or the trauma of the people who were there. I am just a member of the audience. A few recently things point a little more to Arthur Leigh Allen. 3/13/71 Arthur Leigh Allen was stopped for wrong turn by the police at an intersection and got a citation in San Francisco. (That same day...) 3/13/71 Zodiac sends a letter to LA times from Pleasanton, CA (First and last not from San Francisco, to the LA Times and from Pleasanton) That same day 3/13/1971. Another tidbit. In the movie Zodiac during the The Jim Dunbar Show, he tells Belli to meet at Saint Vincent de Paul... There's a Saint Vincent de Paul Day to honor Saint Vincent, that day is September 27... The same day of the Lake Berryessa attack... The caller into the Dunbar show was not very subtle. This makes me almost positive that Zodiac called into the show. Oddly enough it's called feast day...

The connection to the taxi driver is that in that case there were witnesses and in particular teenage females. So there are always both males and females at every crime scene. Zodiac likes to show his dominance over males in the presence of females. He wants the females to feel that the male is incapable of protecting them from him. He wants the males to feel like failures as protectors. In the taxi driver case notice there is a gunshot first, likely to alert the teenage girls across the street, who then watch in horror as he stabbed the taxi driver. Whoever the Zodiac was he knew those girls were there and they would be alerted by the gunshot. He wanted them to watch the murder and that is exactly what happened. Taunting the police fulfills the same fantasy. He shows his dominance over the male police officers and highlights their failure as protectors for all to see. He wants them to appear weak and inept to girlfriends, wives, and mothers all across the country.

Personally I think the killer either was jealous of couples that consummated relations and/or was against premarital sex. Like his attempts of making a relationship happen were failures.

Until real evidence surfaces, ie Paul Stine's Wallet/keys/remainder of clothing from the crime scene surfaces, we will never know who the perpetrator is, plain and simple.

I think the Zodiac and David Berkowitz are probably very similar personalities.

A lot of these killers who have long breaks or seem to stop killing lived a double life, where besides their serial killer persona they were also 'happily' married family men (Dennis Radar, Gary Ridgeway, Lonnie Franklin Jr, and now possibly Gary Poste). They are definitely able to compartmentalize and I suspect that they use this double life not only as a way to sustain themselves in daily life but also to avoid suspicion, detection, and apprehension.

Brandon think out of the box on this one okay. Reread my Post, and forget about those others. Take as much time as you need, and know that this particular guy was more violent to the women. He wore a disguise not just at Lake Barryessa, but at in everyday life. His disguise would allow him to come along, walk up to cops, cross a police crime scene line, and move within limits among the police detectives. In fact, I believe he's actually sitting there behind Cheri Bates in the Riverside Public Library. He is wearing his assignment clothes. Read my post again and stick only to that which I have written. I've written Tom Voigt an offer of revealing who I think this man is. so we'll see if he is not like the rest. @@bens.664 Brandon, honestly I tell you that the killers real name is, and this was his real name I tell you, that his picture matches the Wanted Poster and he was a priest by the name of Father Theodore W. Feely. Look up convicted Theodore W. Feely, a Franciscan Priest and look squarely at his picture. HE I believe was the man police want. But because of being a priest of Rome, they slip and slide on around him creating a big lie to cover it up. Brandon, I went to a school where he was the pastor at. He wore the clothes of the Zodiac, He was a creepy brutal man who also was the pastor of the Diocese of Riverside, San Bernadino, San Diego, and he I believe killed Cheri Bates, whom withstood his advances. His resume put him at the scene of many cold cases where he was assigned to churches, There is a logo used by Franciscan priests that is a Zodiac symbol worn on their hooded monk outfits and they have a very unique logo that speaks of -dices. A para-dices! Believe me, this guy fits the identity to a "T". He was called "Leo" Feely at my school as a youngster, because he acted like a lion. He molested boys and hated girls. Notice on the Skeleton card there is a L.F. with four dots? That's Leo Feely and 4 teens from a group of kids he had as his slaves, meaning boys he molested at various places in Wisconsin and Chicago. There were many more than four though. Then he would get a reassignment back to California. Look him up and you'll see how this guy was moved around and how he was able to avoid the Law. So who sewed his outfit? Himself? His mother? Bryan who was attacked at the lake spoke at length with him and noticed that the emblem was sewn on. It was well made. The letters sent in were identified as definitely zodiac and some were questionable. The ones from the identified zodiac ie 5 only are considered genuine zodiac. Later deaths he claimed may or may not have happened. He did have a close call at Presidio and perhaps he got creeped.

Serial killers are known by researchers to put lots of extra miles on their cars, in their trolling for victims, fantasizing. The Zodiac Killer probably had the costume as part of his fantasy/media attention he wanted. It may have also been used to mask unique and identifying physical characteristics. There were lots of creeps and serial killers roaming California back then. Arthur was attracted to kids, not adults.

Maybe he got interviewed or questioned once and he backed off 🤔

Please bare with me, I'm very new when it comes to the Zodiac killer. So if I suggest something that's been proven or disproven or suggested before, well sod you I'm only trying to help lol. 2 things caught my eye. Arthur Leigh Allen (Was that his name?) The prime suspect I believe? The guy who I think was a paedo? said in his recorded interview something along the lines of 'Whoever he is, he's probably laughing at all this' Please quote him if you want, I've heard him say that or whatever it was once, I then saw footage of an online group who have spent years looking for 'Him' trying to solve it and I tried to put myself in the 'Killer's' head on the assumption that this legacy was what he wanted, the point of his reign of terror. So, we know he was intelligent enough to confuse professional decoders, or throw them off enough to leave it to that Couple, I think they were teachers, or retired teachers, something like that. So we'd be looking at somebody who'd view a paedo differently to how the rest of us view them. Almost like a vulnerable person but who doesn't want help or attention. Surely a guy who's at least fairly smart would manipulate this Allen guy into playing the part of Suspect, given the watch to wear that had the Zodiac's circle cross pattern on it, who knew enough about the killings (I think? Please confirm) to have made him enough of a Prime Suspect to keep bits of his brain after death, incase they manage to map the Killer's genome. So if there was a highly intelligent Killer, using a Paedo to spread misinformation, maybe spy directly on the Police and learn what they know? By the time this Allen guy was exposed as a paedo, he was having too much fun working with the Zodiac Killer, or was terrified enough of him to just carry on. Is it impossible that the Killer induced Allen's heart attack? Scared him to death because he thought he might speak up? If all of this (At least the accurate parts) were true, then is it a stretch to assume that the Killer may have been one of the people interviewed about Allen? I saw a number of justifiably righteous faces, condemning Allen, suspecting him, and thought one of them is probably the Man we're all looking for, so he can smile into the camera and into history in a way Jack the Ripper never could? This is probably a common theory I've just not encountered yet, but I'll save this comment in case it's not.

My guess is, he was gay. Maybe he was thrown out of the military or off the force for being queer, Someone who thought the system had given him a raw deal He also seems to have a thing for the occult, cyphers, cryptic references to obscure movies. Definitely someone intelligent, highly educated. Someone with a sense of humour -- obviously a very black sense of humour. Someone who could be a villain in Tales of the City. I don't think you'd ever suspect him, probably camp, funny, sarcastic, a loner - but still a neighbourly kind of person. I see him as Gore Vidal meets Norman Bates

I kind of thought about that. One description was a man with glasses that was slender, and another description was a bulky man. It is hard to say, really. The focus has always been with one mysterious man, though.

To me the Zodiac "Killers" case were only hard for the fact in how, even to do this day people are trying to decipher it in way that oh doesn't befit actually finding who the killers were, even back then people wanted to keep it like some mystery of some sort and oh what. It is obvious that the Killers studied what they were going to do in pulling off the Murders in trying to make them look like as some singular kook who really had no mind for what he were doing. When in actuality the people pulling off the crimes knew here exactly what they were doing, it would not surprise me if one of the Murderers were a cop, and one were in Journalism, and the so other 2 were equally intelligent scum bags. That really died in old age thinking they were great. ~As for the letters~ I still think that there were more than one person operating off the Zodiac Killer emblematic. Myself not a linguistics expert or any document expert, but being an idiot that comes from a severe learning disability and had to here teach myself in a lot of areas on how to write and read, and properly comprehend things in a matter of way that is different than how most people understand things. My reading the Zodiac letters they read like they were written by different people. To me, one or two of the letters seemed like they were written by someone that were as under developed in the human inner relation communication department and, felt from what reads, like someone he as were kind of an emotional cripple basically. And other ones I have read came across like here I were reading a totally different man. Where the other person swings the other way where the guy is overly attached to what is going on around him and tends too much to make it a personal point, to show himself among society and at least appear that he were personable. Where they both seem equally intelligent but one was more introverted and lived about among people in a more detached way but surely not as functional as the other one. I think that there were at least 3 people writing those letters. Probably about 4 involved in the actual murders. Each man obviously an troublesome individual that somehow found a connective vice. Which makes more sense than it being one killer. Mutual disdain for their own lives that went along for murder, considering themselves smarter than everyone for proving a point.

This is 1964 - 1965 They fly Donna Lass over as a Midwife/Nurse to deliver Dees baby that was completely hidden due to the fact that D was only 17(just turned) he in his mid 50's & a prominent figure in society. Plus add to the facts that in the 60's things like this were just swept under the rug so to speak. Donna Lass delivers the baby. They come back to the states and Darlene and Zodiac, actually lets use code name "Morgan" for Zodiacs first name Darlene and Morgan both know they can't have the baby and in a round about way adopt her out to an unknowing woman that just had a baby girl 13 months prior. Paul Stine is good friends with Darlene from living in a boarding house together. He use to give her rides all the time. So he picks Darlene and Morgan up from the airport takes them where ever and done deal. Darlene then after this follows Morgan one night and watches from a far kill a woman, Cheri Jo Bates. This completely turns her off to Morgan and she completely distances herself away from Morgan. Wants NOTHING to do with him. He developes an attitude towards this and stalks her wanting to know why ? Darlene has no answers for him. Midnight climax , LSD Project Artichoke experiments. Morgan has had a brain tumor sitting on his Amygdala part of his brain(not sure if i spelled that correctly..?) ..which controls his rage and anger. He's known about it for years but the docs can touch it due to its location. So he has to just live with it. He has horrible horrible headaches from the tumor which LSD seemed to help with. So he gets hooked on the drug and other drugs hoping for relief from his headaches. However little does he know that being a CIA Guinea pig was actually a way to turn him in to the Manchurian candidate turning him into a full blown serial killer. He doesn't remember what he did until later. Severe regret and is ashamed. It too late to do anything about it now because he's now programmed with "Trigger words" that will send him on a killing rampage. Mix that with the brain tumor sitting on his Amygdala part of the brain what do you get..?! The Zodiac killer-- After Darlene shunned him on forever he's finally had it. He had to cut loose ties. That being Donna Lass the nurse. Paul Stine taxi driver. Betty lou Jensen was a mistaken identity on Morgans behalf. I mean look how much she looked like Darlene i mean really check it out. They could be twins. So that answers that. Since he is/was in the military he wa a cipher wiz. As for the lake Berryessa murders..? Copy cat

You could possibly, just possibly, factor the 1966 Riverside murder into his timeline, which would add a little more to his front end timeline. RIP Cheri Jo Bates.

Thought of this yesterday... Since Darlene was a 17 year old when she got pregnet, I'm sure her friends or some of them were right around her age. That being possibly Donna Lass and Cheri jo Bates(?).Both knew Darlene was pregnant. Both tried to help find a midwife possibly. Donna Lass maybe knew Cheri Jo Bates and knew she was going to school to become a nurse. Darlenes older man was extremely rich~!! His Sister even richer a multi millionaire, (but that has nothing to do w/this, just sayin..).. More then likely both were flown to the Virgin Islands. Later due to that scenario, both had to die.- Stine too because he drove them both to the airport. Loose ends had to be cut in the Zodiacs mind- I am so on it it hurts! :P

He targeted Paul stine after Paul Avery called him a latent homosexual in a news article. The idea being pent up rage due to his sexual orientation caused him to lash out at heterosexual couples. Paul stine's murder was in effort to prove Mr Avery wrong.

The letters are written with the skill level of an elementary school child but the ciphers we're neat and meticulously created. A basic diversion to implicate another or eliminate oneself. The difference in the handwriting can be as simple as a mental disorder such as Dissociative Identity Disorder aka Multiple Personality. Each personality in such people have the tendencies to write differently.

Probably married but unable have a close and or intamate relationship with anyone. Insecure in his relationships. Complained frequently. Envious of others enjoying themselves.

The Zodiac movie was on last night and I have being interested in this since I was a kid. Sounds like Zodiac might have started seeing a shrink to help him stop killing seeing himself as getting to old to be "Zodiac" anymore. Wonder what he did for a living besides killing that is?

In the movie Zodiac the protagonist, Graysmith connected Allen with one of his victims, the floosy in the Corvair ( they were neighbors and she might have spurned him at a "paint party" she once threw , and later Allen left a phone message with the lawyer Melvin Belli's house saying he was sorry he missed him since it was his , Zodiac's , birthday. Beats me how accurate any of this is, but it a hoot of a flick, lots of atmosphere. Graysmith told the cops what he had but the case was really cold and they didn't go with it. (I got the DVD of the movie at Big Lots for $2.00 ). The film ends with Allen being picked from a mug shot by one of his surviving victims, but Allen escapes justice by dropping dead. Such is life. I watch the DVD abut twice a year and it really take me back to when I was a kid in the early 1970's. How may people do you think the made up Psyco Killer Norman Bates offed before he was nabbed. I'd say dozens, and the bottom of that nearby swap where he dumped everything looked like a used car lot. Dig this old digital computer patents where you use air do the computing. Now I have to watch that flick again or at least the scene where Gray is hammering on the closed police station front doors in the rain shouting to the desk clerk " I know who Zodiac is , he told Belli's house keeper his birthday , HE WAS WEAK!" Or that's how I'm remembering it right now. Pretty cool. He had everyone thinking hard till this day that crime has not been solved he deff knew what he was doing that's 4 sure my friend !!!

Not very good. He has an alibi for the night of the crime. Aside from that...he was pretty worthless overall. Darlene and himself met in San Francisco. At one point they both took off to New York briefly. They stayed in Pennsylvania for about 6 months or so and ended up in the Virgin Islands. They come back and she gets a job and so does he, briefly. They get married and the certificate gets filed with Reno Nevada but that wasn't the actual town of the marriage. Super close to there though. He's basically not working this whole time and when they come to live with Darlenes parents...He tells them he owns a newspaper in the Virgin Islands which is total bullshit. The parents tell him 3 weeks later that he has to get a job and he does with a newspaper. Darlene and her parents pretty much have him pegged as a loser. Darlene files for divorce in Reno. Theres no big thing that happens. In short order he's got some girl knocked up and her daddy buys them a house. Apparently he got some woman knocked up overseas too before all of this. Basic evaluation: Guys got a battleship mouth but a rowboat ass. He wasn't dangerous to much of anything other than his current girlfriends pocketbook.

I believe that he died the n the mid 70s

Given the recent capture of The Original Night Stalker living a pretty normal life as a retired cop it seems very possible Zodiac could be living normally too.. wasn't one of the original suspects a policeman or security guard?

I think he wanted to be a cop and the SFPD rejected him. When that happened he went from wanting to be loved to wanting to be feared....Like the Frankenstein monster did when he was rejected.. In the killer's mind the Zodiac costume helped him to be feared in the way Frankenstein was. I think he's still alive and just as crazy as a shit house rat!

it's very lucky we know he was wearing a costume since his objective was to kill the couple by the lake, he didn't purposely leave behind the male victim, that was one of the odd things about him is what was the purpose of the costume when there would be no witnesses.

The costume was part of his hunting gear like camouflage. Look at the terrain and the approach to the site. It's a good guess he had been there multiple times when people were present that could I.D. him because of his uniqueness. It also helped him be able to quickly adapt to escape if something went wrong.He had to be able to shed his outer clothing that would have been covered in blood and blend into the woodwork if things got rough.He was a hunter. The costume was gear and part of a plan. That's my guess. He was involved in something high risk compared to the other killings.

He may have been a Cop and quit killing when he retired.That maybe why he mentioned in his letter signed "A Citizen".. The definition of a citizen is other than active military or Police. In other words he is saying I was a cop,armed forces member or park ranger, but now I am writing to you as a citizen.It would also explain his ability to know where and when to hunt his victims and avoid detection and his concern with time documentation of crime scene and logging of details of the killings.

Occupation is a big issue. The case that he worked a very steady five-day job is pretty persuasive. He might well have worked in the school system as a classified employee or even a teacher. His writing does not rule out the position of teacher. I worked for some time as a reporter in small communities and received many releases from individual teachers. Some wrote very well. Some wrote as badly and with as bad a hand as the Zodiac. I don't rule out teacher at all. He did have some intelligence and background, and that calls blue-collar work into question, including a job such as school custodian. Consider five-day jobs a college dropout or four-year grad at the most could have had. I seriously doubt he had any education beyond undergraduate college. If he taught, it could have been as a P.E. or shop teacher. Some have even theorized that he was sworn officer.

@The Cat Many things are on the table. But a a merchant marine officer spends time at sea. It's not a five-day job. The California Merchant Marine Academy operated by the California State University System is located in Vallejo. I am sure many grads settled in that area back in the day. But I think a merchant marine officer would be more orderly in the use of language. I rule it out, but no one knows. The only thing I am sure of in my mind is that he was not someone with a graduate or professional level education.

Reportedly, almost a thousand men and at least one woman have confessed to being the skyjacker D.B. Cooper. Only one of them, at the most, can be the person who was on the plane. At the most. It wasn't like he was going out and killing every single weekend. If you look at his pattern, he basically killed once a year. I'm sure there were many "Opportunity killings" in there too . For instance, look up the Japan unsolved murders from the era of WW2 to 1970. It's amazing. Look up all the unsolved Brazil murders from that same era too.

Him having a job mon thru friday and having the weekends off dont mean a thing. It could be that he knows kids will be out on days they dont have school and have freedom for the weekend to do whatever that teenagers love to do. Teens are not out much on weekdays back then so he knew that and that's what I think anyway. So betting all your money on what cards you think will win with this case is very foolish!

**Here's my ignorance..be kind please.** Why is it assumed he's living a "structured life" busy during the week? Why isn't it plausible, IF he's a "loner," for him to become active on the weekends due to the odds of his victims being readily available or a "convienance?" I know that this isn't a easy task...if it was he/she/they would've been identified by now. I also understand an enormous amount of education and experience goes into profiling...what I don't understand is how assured a person can be that their profile/assessment is the "end all/be all." ***Again, I'm ignorant so please be kind by educating me versus unneeded cruelty. the time in between murders were spent stocking and following his victims around along with the police and their routines so as not to get caught writing letters and cyphers i read where some of the females were cheating what about the some of the girls families being called with heavy breathing on the other end what about the fact that the letters are written both left and right handed and than a totaly different writting styles didn't he say in one letter that he was going to change his methods to keep the police on their toes or something close to that? graysmith seems to be telling alot about himself how about he take a dna test and give his finger prints

Here's a theory: Darlene Ferrin and him had a secret love affair while she was living in Ben Lomond, CA. w/Jim Phillips. This is when they split the sheets. Darlene gets pregnet. Graduates high school not looking pregnet. Shortly after high school she and this Merchant Marine Captain in his mid 50's but didn't look his age AT ALL go to the Virgin Islands and stayed for almost a year. This is 1964 - 1965 They fly Donna Lass over as a Midwife/Nurse to deliver Dees baby that was completely hidden due to the fact that D was only 17(just turned) he in his mid 50's & a prominent figure in society. Plus add to the facts that in the 60's things like this were just swept under the rug so to speak. Donna Lass delivers the baby. They come back to the states and Darlene and Zodiac, actually lets use code name "Morgan" for Zodiacs first name Darlene and Morgan both know they can't have the baby and in a round about way adopt her out to an unknowing woman that just had a baby girl 13 months prior. Paul Stine is good friends with Darlene from living in a boarding house together. He use to give her rides all the time. So he picks Darlene and Morgan up from the airport takes them where ever and done deal. Darlene then after this follows Morgan one night and watches from a far kill a woman, Cheri Jo Bates. This completely turns her off to Morgan and she completely distances herself away from Morgan. Wants NOTHING to do with him. He developes an attitude towards this and stalks her wanting to know why ? Darlene has no answers for him. Darlene also hasn't a clue as to life now being in trouble either- Morgan retires early gets bored and a friend of his from the CIA talks him in to working for them part time. Midnight climax , LSD Project Artichoke experiments. Morgan has had a brain tumor sitting on his Amygdala part of his brain(not sure if i spelled that correctly..?) ..which controls his rage and anger. He's known about it for years but the docs can touch it due to its location. So he has to just live with it. He has horrible horrible headaches from the tumor which LSD seemed to help with. So he gets hooked on the drug and other drugs hoping for relief from his headaches. However little does he know that being a CIA Guinea pig was actually a way to turn him in to the Manchurian candidate turning him into a full blown serial killer. Disagreed on the part that he went out to look for the right victim. Zodiak knew all his victims beforehand and the motivation originally was a revenge because he had had a bad experience in a relationship at a young age. Probably several bad experiences. The publicity was separate motivation. He had motivation for killing and another motivation for publicity. Publicity was not the motivation for killing.

Be free to do so. Indeed, I am not a professional. But I do believe, that the Zodiak killed first time years before the crimes that are typically connected to the Zodiak killer. The first killings would have been in connection to a relationship the Zodiak had had. So the first victims would have been his ex girlfriend and a new boyfriend of his ex girlfriend. After this he had moved to the San Francisco area and started to get to know with women younger than him. He gave the women a false identity and later when the women started dating another man, he killed both the woman and this guy the woman was dating, on their date. So the killings were very much that the killer wanted to relieve the first homicide where he had killed his girlfriend and the homicides were also very much about power and control that gave him sexual arousal. The motivation for publicity was also about power and control, as this guy wanted to control the society, the police and the press.

What type of a person wants to control the society in the way the Zodiak did? There are two types of people who do this. The first type are the drug addicts and mental patients, the type of people who are unable to control their own lifes, so they go and control other people instead and kinda reflect the feelings that they feel about their drug addiction etc. to the society. Serial killers of this type are not very organized, they are impulsive and they don't plan their killings that much. The second type is grandiose narcissists, people in whose personality the pathological narcissism is the defining factor. So these type of people are like the BTK. They plan their crimes very well, are careful and precise, sometimes intelligent. I would say that the Zodiak represented the second type. He was an extremely narcissistic individual. These people often like to get to a jobs in where they can be in control, like in supervisory positions. Atlhough you can see, that his need for publicity kinda reflected that he felt that he was insignificant, so it is very likely, that he was not in a supervisory position. Also very likely that he had no family during the time of the killings or before the killings. Most likely had a job, but the job was something insignificant.

Zenon Elealainen here's another possible motive in the 60s the bay area was known for the festival of love. which could've ticked the zodiac off because he just broke up or divorced someone. I believe the zodiacs true motive was jealousy because would you be jealous of If you saw a couple and know you once had a life like that? that's what was going through Z's mind.

everything she says ,is dead on that the evidence that it indeed was the person who solved his own cipher ,don harden ,the school teacher!?His adress social insurance number ,and a couple other things were all contained within the cyphers ,and the z pattern on which he killed ,led directly to his place of residence when placed against a mirror ,but the fact that his home phone and address were in the cypher is pretty hard to refute.

I wonder if he was frustrated in success in some field of art? writing? music? maybe this resulted in his need to be recognized by society he regarded as spiteful and unworthy of him?

More then likely he was a guy who couldn't win the girl over and this was his spiral to murder. Like Elliot Rodger, only Zodiac took a bit longer to get there. I'm guessing Zodiac felt like Rodger did. If you ever heard him talk about how great he is and all that, Zodiac was most likely the same ego driven maniac.

Maybe he wanted to discredit the police for some reason so he committed enough of these heinous crimes to make him the top priority to law enforcement. Then he stopped killing and started his letter writing campaign to make them look foolish and inept. And did a good job of it. When he felt he'd done that, he walked away.

the problem was the age of the crime as you'll see, especially the geographic profiler mentioning if it were done today, we could have narrowed down the location. also until BTK, it was widely assumed the only thing that stops these serial killers from operating is incarceration or death when now it's becoming more accepted that many of them are able to abandon the killer lifestyle and go back to being a "citizen".

Arthur or Liegh as he preferred to be called, I think because every time he heard the name it reminded him of he’s mother. He had a love hate relationship with her because she was domineering and verbally abusive toward him. I think he was an only child, I am not sure. But he’s mother continually putting him down and telling him he was stupid and he would never amount to anything and that he was a disappointment to her and probably society, was probably that that made him feel inadequate. She conditioned him to think and and believe that he wasn’t worthy of not only her love and respect but he felt that society wouldn’t except him as well. He would play act as a young teenager he created in his mind a person that would make an impact by creating different make believe characters. You see this a lot in teenagers that aren’t getting their important needs met and are being emotionally deprived and abused sometimes physically as well. Even though Arthur excelled at school he was extremely bright. He felt inadequate around people and girls. He would go off to the side at recess in the playground and read adventure books or study math instead of mingling and playing with the other kids. He was shy. As he grew up he resented not having a girlfriend and he basically had no friends at all only the company of he’s mother and Aunts. He never developed meaningful relationships with anyone because of he’s mother not having the proper skills to raise a son or any child for that matter. Even though she did quiet well at looking after he’s physically needs emotionally she wasn’t there for him. The reason he targeted couples was that they had everything that he craved for, a relationship. The reason he randomly shot the cab driver which he was almost caught that night by the way was because the man had family, cab drivers like to talk to their passengers and he started talking about he’s wife and kids and how he’s wife was pregnant with their third child and how happy he was. Arthur resented him and in a fit of anger he shoots him when the cab pulled to the curb. That’s all that was a fit of rage. Arthur did not handle rage very well at all he had a lot of built up and pent up anger from his childhood. Arthur had grown out of playing the zodiac, it lost its appeal, he couldn’t take the character any further. Arthur couldn’t keep a job either, he got discharged from the navy, he was a navy seal which is a pretty important job. He never lost he’s love for diving but instead of detonating bombs underwater and doing underwater repairs on ships he kept diving for the love of it. He met and made friends when he was in the navy and some of these people went on diving trips with him. Arthur also liked hunting small animals in the woods. He was familiar with the wooded areas around The San Francisco Bay Area and other areas outside the district. He did take a job at a local elementary school he taught math to primary school kids however that was short lived he was fired from he’s job after two boys complained to the principal that he touched them inappropriately. Arthur did spend some time in jail I’m not sure what that was I think it was for molesting children, I am not sure. He did get a job working for an aviation factory in San Francisco. After that I am not sure what he did. Odd jobs working in different factories and what not. You are right when you said he was a loner. You were right when you said that he worked Monday to Friday. That’s why the killings took place on public holidays and weekends. Arthur was a little fluent in code he learnt that in the Navy, however he wasn’t an expert at it like Ted Kaczynski was, some of the code made sense but the rest of it was just random numbers and symbols that he had written down on paper none of it makes sense that’s why no one‘s been able to decipher it not even the experts. Arthur lived in a fantasy world he loved zodiac watches especially the diving watch the sea Wolf deep dive. They are expensive watches and the company is still making the watches today in Switzerland. I have to admit they are nice watches especially the one Arthur liked the deep dive Seawolf model. Arthur liked the symbol on the zodiac watch which was a circle with a cross through it that was the symbol he used to sign off his letters. He did use the symbol or draw the symbol of the zodiac on the car door of the couple he attacked in the reserve on the long weekend holiday. He made the black outfit with the black hood and large white zodiac symbol painted on the front himself. The zodiac was he’s alter ego. I think Arthur lived with he’s mother. I don’t think he lived in he’s own place. How his mother didn’t know what was going on under her roof is an enigma to me. Surely she would have noticed something peculiar. But I guess it’s a little bit like when Jeffrey Dahmer lived with his grandmother for years and she had no idea that he was bringing home young men and and dissecting them in the basement of her home. I guess most people just wouldn’t think that a family member would do something like that. Arthur passed away in his mother’s home from a heart attack I think he was about 60 when he died. Why Arthur stoped killing we don’t know I think it was because he grew tired of the character the zodiac and wanted to put him to rest. I think Arthur lived a quiet life incognito with his mother and the occasional visits from his aunts he did live the rest of his life as a loner. A lot of serial killers that have never been caught stop killing for some reason. We think that Jack the Ripper stopped because he was committed to an asylum by his family, they didn’t know that he was Jack the Ripper, the reason he was committed was because he’s behaviour around he’s family members was becoming dangerously erratic. He held a knife to he’s sisters throat one day and that’s why he’s family committed him. Mental illness is very prevalent among people in our society sometimes it’s genetic and passed on from generation to generation but usually it’s a result of bad abusive parenting. People might wonder where Arthur’s father was in his life, this I am not sure of. Either he died when Arthur was a child. Or he’s mother and father divorced when he was a child. Something like that. All I know is that maybe if he’s father had been present in his life things may have turned out different for him and he may not have chosen to kill.

A number of people have pointed out, the Zodiac committed his crimes on the weekend. Some have suggested he might have had an anonymous job such as school custodian. Some also have suggested that there was not one Zodiac but an original killer and copycats. Surviving victims did not report him wearing the Zodiac costume until after the letters were published in The Chronicle. I have entertained the thought that the pungency of expression and arrogant tone seen in the Zodiac letters was an act. This is a hint that Zodiac might have been overeducated for the job he had. Whatever the job was, I think public employee was a good guess. And not in a job where he might have had to work holidays or weekends, which rules out public safety or emergency responder. But keep in mind, we just don't know if there was one individual or several. Some have even suggested that the letters sent to The Chronical were a journalistic hoax. Keep an open mind, but keep a closed mind one matter, which is that you just don't know until the facts are exposed. I don't think the facts ever will be known. It is highly likely that the Zodiac and his copycats, if any, are deceased by now.

I thought that perhaps there was a copycat, or maybe a couple of people involved. Perhaps one writing letters, the other committing the crimes. I thought that perhaps considering the Zodiac contains lots of different star signs, that this might indicate different people involved. Whoever he or they were - they are complete pricks.

Guy Ward Hendrickson is the Zodiac and killed these people. Gareth Penn wrote the letters, he killed Donna Lass, and buried her body on a land that was owned by Guy Ward Hendrickson. Gareth Penn also killed in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2011. He has a Twitter account. He’s posting cryptic messages.
