    Got a custom engraved zippo, except it wasn’t a zippo, damned Etsy sellers use Stars, same thing just chinese, worked fine for a while, but it started to leak all over and even rust the case (i did say chinese), so i’ve now ordered a regular as basic (cheap) as possible zippo and ill replace the actual lighter. In the mean time ill use a rust cleaning agent to clean the rust out and it should work fine. Still this video has helped me now that i will get a new lighter, so i can set it right. Thanks!

    I'll put the whole pack of flints under my felt. When I fill my lighter, I'll put the tip in the hole on the felt slowly squeeze the fluid in and pull out the tip in the process, but still aim the fluid in the hole and watch for the fluid start saturating the felt (like a flash saturation) and stop filling at that point. Then I will stand up my lighter on the table for 5 minutes before use. It work for me. Then again everyone has their own way of doing things.

    Man I wish I could say the same for the Zippo that my dad gave me. I'll always be upset over the fact that I lost that thing. He got it back in 1977 when he graduated high school as a gift from his sister. Now my dad's name is Gregory. Same as me. But he goes by Greg. Well my sister wasn't sure how he spelt Greg and for some reason she thought he spelt it Gregg 🤣 I promise he nor any other other Greg I know spells it like this. But that lighter had special sentimental value too me. As you can imagine. Can't believe I lost that damn thing 😞 I actually think a "buddy" of mine stole it from me at a party one night. I had been drinking and I let him bum a cigarette and use my lighter. Handing it too him was the last time I remember seeing it. 😒 Which is really scummy if he did. Cause I called him the next day and he denied it. Saying oh no I gave it back too you. I'm pretty sure he didn't though. I mean who even wants a lighter with Gregg spelt wrong on it. How dumb. It means nothing to him or anyone else and so so so much too me. I've never been more upset with myself for losing something 😞

    Just got recommended this now after owning a Zippo for 10 years or so. What I love in them is that it's not a throwaway design, almost all components are made to be replaced once they wear out. So in theory one Zippo can last you almost a lifetime.

    My father and I both got Zippo's at the same time about 25 years ago, His had a brass exterior whle mine was the classic brushed stainless steel. His lighter just seemed to keep the fuel, there was a strange effect between the brass outer sheath and stainless steel insert that just seemed to always seal well and it would never evaporate dry and run out of fuel, whereas mine would leak like an old wooden barn and be dead every couple of days, his would last weeks between refills. Skip forwards about 20 years, My Zippo is still looking pristene bar 2 slight dents on 1 side, and the brass has completely corroded out around the hinge on his, leaving a blue copper discharge.

    Quick hint - keep extra flints under the felt. If you worry about running out of fuel, zippo refill canister keychain will give you around 5 refills. To get rid of the sticker mess, zippo fluid and a paper towel. If you are sensitive to the feeling of lighter fluid on your skin, as all zippos leak, use a zippo belt pouch.

    solar clapson do you just wrap Teflon tape around the inner body to make it tighter with the outside shell? Or just near the bottom? Inside? Curious to see where it evaporates from if those areas can be sealed better. I’ve seen people putting a thick rubber band around the top lid too.

    Great tips…I have had zippo lighters for about 30 years, and never seen that done before with a new lighter… What I have noticed is when you change a wick in your zippo after a few years of ownership, that cotton, or rayon balls in the lighter never seem to go back the same…So I never touch it anymore till the wick is almost done…. Also the felt pad that has the little hole in it.. Over the years I have heard people say the hole is for a flint, and some say, that’s the filler hole for the fluid, cause the older lighters didn’t have lift to fill on the pad…

    I always thought the copper wiring was just to give the cotton wick some rigidity. The fact that it also transfers heat into the chambered fuel is brilliant. And I did cringe a bit when I watched you cut the wick with your scissors due to that copper wiring. But I guess the copper is soft enough not to damage the blades, huh?

  • @txtoolcrib

    @txtoolcrib

    4 жыл бұрын

    Actually, it is both. You're right, the copper strands are also designed to add rigidity to the wick as well, otherwise it would just fall over. As far as using scissors on copper, those strands are so small and the copper is so soft, any decent scissor will cut right through them with zero issues.

  • @Bobo-ox7fj
