    Just out of curiosity so you don’t believe in the existence of the state of Israel or do u support 1967 two state solution or one state solution? There are lot of pro Palestine element especially out side of west circle wants all Jews who came after 1948 expelled (idk how that is possible since everyone is mixed now or what will happened Jews go escaped from other Arab countries) If you say one state then what will happens to gay people for example any sane person who looks at the region can say there two groups can’t live together. It's hard to know what to do, what you even can do, about these giant evils oftentimes. I'm an American and all the evil America does and has done and will do, what can I do about any of it? I do think about such things and I try to figure out how I can actually do something... I try to get people to join DSA, because I think that actually has a good shot at pushing politics to a place where our country is less destructive, less sociopathic on the world stage... I've found some small charities where I can donate and help, and the small amount I can contribute actually makes a difference. But it is so difficult to bridge that gap between even seeing the good or evil of things, and then seeing where you could or should work to help. But yeah, you are right, the beginning of it all, is right in your heart, in your thoughts. When your heart is in the right place and you speak and act with a pure thought, goodness comes naturally, and that is all any one person can be expected to do.

    I understand Zionism after Hitler, but it started way before then and that is problematic. Palestinians should not bear the burden for the sins of nazism, and failure of the world to prevent the holocaust! The antagonists should be made to accept a real two-state solution by incentivising Palestine and threatening to boycott Israel or anyone else that opposes a real two-state solution!

  • @faroukabdellah4216

    @faroukabdellah4216

    7 ай бұрын

    I think that a two-state solution is impossible at this point. The wall of separation and the settlements destroyed any geographic continuity for a possible palestinian state. Also, even with that, if a palestinian state were to be proclamed on the 1967 borders, the 700 000 jewish sttlers will not accept to be part of the newly created state, nor they will accept to leave their homes/ villages / settlements / towns in the West Bank. The only solution possible is recognizing what exists now de facto : a unique state, but under which palestinians recover their basic human rights and are recognized as citizens as the same level as jews are, in Israel. One state under the rule one man, one vote, secular, bi-national, not called Israel, not called Palestine but for example is called The Holy Lands, that have hebrew and arabic as it's official langages and a national anthem that recognizes past sufferings of jews outside of that State and the suffering of palestinians inside of that State and that celebrates the new friendship between both. That's the only solution.

    @@faroukabdellah4216 there is certainly a wall of separation, however, Israeli settlements and other land grabs and its apartheid make the current FAKE two-state non-solution also an impossible status quo. (As big of a project that would be, it's a lot smaller than relocating 6 million Palestinians.) And even the widespread racism in Israel could be overcome in time. It seems to me that the really insurmountable problem at this time is the unwillingness of the U.S. to change its stance of unconditionally backing Israel no matter what they do. If the U.S. were to change its tune, Israel would have to listen, whether they like it or not.

    I grew up in the Pentecostal craziness of the 80s and 90s, this is where the faith healing and speaking in tongues stuff was developed. When I was about 5, my grandmother chased me into the bathroom, cornered me in the tub, and while my mother held me down, tried to "exercise the demons" while speaking in tongues. If you've seen the documentary 'jesus camp' you'll understand. Anyway, they are rabid Zionists because they believe it will bring Jesus back. What the caller described from beliefs regarding Israel to the indoctrination, social pressure and fear of being ostracized is identical to my experience. It's hard to come to terms with the fact that things that were deemed so important during your upbringing turned out to be very wrong. It's even harder to take that information and make a decision to change your own behavior and general world view. A lot of people are not able to overcome that cognitive dissonance as it can be painful. I have not spoken to my family in 20 years because it was so bad. It's not an easy journey, but you aren't alone. Hang in there caller, it will get easier.

Interesting that Sam mentioned Exodus, I just started reading that book, realizing that it is likely filled with dated, romanticized propaganda, but it should be interesting, even if just to learn where the propaganda comes from.

    There are people who do choose to be bent upon bad things, for a season even if successfully escaping it for an eternity. The plight of sinful humanity is complex. It might be better to say that it is very difficult in many cases to see impossibly bad people. Still, what is society composed of, but people? If they're not getting a better picture of what is possible, and not wanting to, is not this an element of sin in itself? The theology of sin and atonement is a thick, thorny thing. I am a person who used to count myself part of Jewish society but became Christian of conviction in midlife. Without a salvational lift personally from God accompanied by sacrifice, we are stuck in a pure Mosaic ethos where certain peoples we may encounter are simply "all bad" with no help. The position of the Palestinians (aggravated, as it were, by certain angst recorded in the Muslim scriptures and traditions) is a classic example. Should those who say they know God better attempt to bring them salvation -- or should they simply tread them down?

    The notion that all the Jews left Palestine in the exodus has been scientifically disproven too. Long there has been this idea that this region was just empty, then Arabs showed up in the Middle Ages. The truth is, many Jews never left Palestine, they lived in the northern hilly region, rural lives, and they mixed with the Arabs to come in the Middle Ages Israeli scientific research, funded by the ethnostate, has proven that the most direct, closest living descendents of the Jews of Jesus's time, are the Palestinian Arabs themselves. They're more Jewish than the Jews, despite not identifying as such.

    I'm a Palestinian who's married to a Jewish woman. For what it's worth, this conversation meant a lot to me. There is such polarization and dehumanization in this conflict. I'm so used to people telling me that because I care about Palestinian rights that means I hate Jews and that's incredibly painful, along with my partner and favorite person in the world, I have so many friends and mentors who happened to be Jewish. I feel blessed to hear anyone who is willing to affirm that standing up for human rights is not in conflict with a Jewish identity. I wish that more Palestinians could be exposed to this viewpoint instead of just hearing from the most right-wing elements of the Israeli government who only seek division and hatred.

    I know people never tend to talk about this. But most religious people are indoctrinated into this or that religion from the moment they are born (just like how toddlers learn from their parents to walk and talk, so do they tend to learn about whatever religion they are born into). It's a form of indoctrination, but different from walking and talking that are part of evolution - religion is not necessary for humanity to thrive, at least not in the same vein as walking and talking. I find it hard to take religious people seriously when they try to argue about their God(s) being real while others are all false. We do not choose which family we are born into, so why do some people have a easier time than others in terms of being born into the 'real' faith? Would someone born a Muslim, who then converts to Christianity, get more rewards in the afterlife as opposed to someone born into Christianity? And if not, then how is this system fair?

    I really like this caller. I especially like their belief that "there are no bad people, only broken people." My view on Israel is that Israel is a settler-colonial state that is oppressing the Palestinian people. Given the history of the Jewish people in Europe, where they were constantly persecuted, similarly to many stateless peoples who have diasporas across many other states and territories, especially those who have been victims of genocide or driven from their historical homelands; it is understandable that some Jewish people and groups want to have a sovereign homeland as a safe haven from antisemitism and persecution. However, that does not grant Israel the right to persecute those who were living on the land and had their own polities, communities, and cultures. I am fine with Israel existing as a safe haven for the Jewish people, so long as they are secular in every other way, and so long as Israel understands it cannot be a state for Jews alone, it must be shared with the Palestinians whom must have equal Israeli citizenship, and that would mean that the White Jewish Israelis may be a minority compared to the Palestinian Israelis (whom may be Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Atheist, or have another religious position altogether). It is especially important to remember that genetic analysis shows that the Palestinians and European Jews are basically cousins who were descended from the same people group, and that the Palestinians have lived in the land longer than that of the Israelis. What people need to understand is that anti-zionism is not synonyms with antisemitism. There exist non-zionist and anti-zionist Jews. P.S. I currently identify as a Unitarian Universalist, I was previously a Progressive Christian, and I was raised non-denominational Christian because my mother was non-denominational Christian. However, my father and his family were Jewish. My parents had an interfaith marriage. My father did convert to Christianity when I was around 7 or 8 years old, and he died when I was 12.

    RIP to your father. All you have said is true. As a Muslim myself who lives in India, our people are being oppressed and persecuted by the Hindu majority. I can relate to many non-zionist or anti-zionist Jews who face persecution in their own homeland from their own brothers! Its honestly so hypocritical of Israelis to use the Holocaust to justify their own genocide on the people of Palestine. Anti-Semitism is wrong but I have seen 0 people use it against Israelis. Islamophobia is equally wrong, but I have seen hundreds of people use it against Palestinians. Especially Indian Hindu nationalists. The world can be so ignorant. Its honestly so disgusting.

    Absolutely! Preach, Josh! I cannot believe that so many Democractic politicians in the U.S. refuse to explore the nuance of the middle east conflict and accept that the actions of Europeans in middle east are antithetical to the beliefs espoused by most Democrats in the U.S, such as civil rights, equality and promotion of self-determination for all. Therefore, most Democrats will not support the wholesale attacks on a civilian population by this right-wing government purportedly because of the actions of a small band of actors, especially when the same right-wing government attacking this civilian population does not have clean hands. It's imperialism at its worst and barbaric. Democratic supporters in the U.S. need to accept that fact before we can help these people begin the healing process, otherwise we will be lumped in with this right-wing government and be viewed as just as culpable. This is a very scary proposition, especially seeing what the Democrats are now facing in our own politics here in U.S.

The purpose is to have everybody on the same page, with the exact same outlook at the world. There's also no chance of protesting the actions of the govt if you've been there yourself and you'd defend it to outsiders. It breeds a common hate and a shared superiority complex.

    That's because the majority of Jews do support the *existence* of Israel and would claim the term Zionist. Polling consistently shows that this continues to be true. Many of those Zionists are also anti-Netanyahu, anti-Settlements, anti-racist, and are otherwise left leaning on social and economic issues. These are people who sincerely believe that Israel could be a progressive, democratic state that is a fair place for Palestinians too, and many are keenly aware that it is not living up to that potential.
